Not everyone looks for love!

That was true for the cold-hearted Mr. Ronald but not for Miss. Wairimu. She really hoped for Mr. Ronald to love her back.

That statement that Tony said had Anita wondering if it was true that not everyone looked for love in a relationship. She even started to ask herself if she truly loved Tony or if the person himself loved her.

She was already twenty-three and had only known Tony as her friend then boyfriend. Deep in her heart she admires him and because she has never felt any attraction towards any other man despite the ones who had tried their luck on her in college, she has taken her heart as already occupied by Tony.

She grew up within a loving family that only wished for a peaceful normal life. Since she had dedicated her life much to her research of the unknown mythical creatures and beasts that she believed existed among them, her family had urged her to always spare a time to take care of her relationship with Tony.

Anita can’t say that her parents were forcing her as she always felt her heart agree to giving Tony time. Then her relationship with Tony was a known thing even before they graduated from College and he found his job.

Her parents, Mr and Mrs. Bakers were among the romantic people she ever knew. She could tell from the love in their eyes everyday they looked at each other. Even though she didn’t like herself to divulge into love, she was a big girl now and could distinguish those who love and those who don’t love each other.

Her grand-parents, Mr. And Mrs. Stone, were celebrated scientists and they were renowned for their contributions to the world and the research they made that changed the prospects of how humans saw the world.

They were both rich from their works and the contributions their Lab, the Stone Labs made. And even after living with each other for over seventy years, their love for each other never vanished. Even after they decided to focus on research of the unknown and people started to mock them saying that they were wasting their good brains, they never divorced each other until their death twenty five years ago.

Their names stayed at the country’s leader board for Top Scientists till now but also they had the longest stay as the most romantic couple. So from all the generations Anita knew, she knew that they all searched for love.

If not for love, her grandmother would have divorced her crazy grandfather because he was the first to venture out of normal scientific research. If not for love, her mother wouldn’t have gone to the pastry school again with her father just so that they can stray away from the public and science world.

Anita even believed that if not for love, Tony wouldn’t have tolerated her till now. There were many scientists that graduated from their college who were now doctors, lab technicians, forensic scientists, NASA officials and chiefs, biologists, even marine biologists like him who had extended their love cards shamelessly to him and he refused telling them that he had her and she was enough.

So this statement was so new and unbelievable to her. No one could blame Anita. She was innocent and naive despite being strong enough to fight for what she wanted.

“Why did you ask about her, Nita?” Tony’s question broke her line of thoughts, “Did you want her to invite you for the screening to meet the writer? I know you love fantasy writers like your grandpa.” Tony added.

Anita realized Tony had misunderstood her interest in Wairimu. Even though Wairimu was a best actress and the female goddess, the latest movie she did was science fiction about aliens residing in other worlds.

Also, even though they got some clues from the first book her grandfather had published publicly after explaining and helping in solving mutations, they never believed in it that much.

As she was growing up, Anita had gotten used to other people mocking her grandparents for not treasuring their brains after being the Top Scientists of the World and also when her parents decided to open a pastry shop after The government decided on taking The Stone Labs for a museum and National Property.

Her parents’ shop became famous only because at first, many who ate there wanted to see the son of the great Scientists, Anita’s father and the young chemistry genius kid, who gave up on college to pursue pastry, her mother. But when she decided to love playing with mixtures, her parents never stopped her.

She had a reason why she had decided on pursuing her grandparents dream. When she was ten, she came to her grandparent’s master bedroom that her parents had always opened for cleaning twice every month and accidentally came across a secret passageway.

When she triggered the mechanism, she was brought to the large and best lab set up she had never seen. It was the secret lab of the two and whatever she found had amazed her. She did not understand the science that could explain the large room she was seeing that couldn’t be seen from the outside.

There was a plate left on the huge double doors that made her venture into that place and it read; IF YOU EVER COME ACROSS THIS PLACE, it means you have a new responsibility of keeping secrets and you have to believe in your guts and embrace your powers. There are many discoveries in the world but do know not all of them make the others who find them happy or feel safe.

Anita found she had to understand what was said on the plate and when she came out, she found her parents who seemed like they were waiting for her. Did they keep it from her?

She later found out the reason why they couldn’t go on because it meant working for the government and the government had always had their ways on making a great discovery be theirs. Years later, her parents could not keep up with the knowledge and also they never found the right door, they only knew it existed, so as it came to be, it was meant for Anita’s generation.

“I am always curious. That’s what makes me Anita!” She answered and leaned back on the seat.

“Okay, since you also look weary, let me rush you home then.”

“It will be appreciated.”

And so, Tony accelerated.

Anita’s mind wandered off and she came to start thinking of what happened back at the garage and the information she had received. There was one thing she noticed that was peculiar. How rich was Mr. Ronald? He looked young and at most Anita estimated his age to be twenty-six years old.

A mysterious person, twenty-six-years-old, owning many top businesses around the world must have some deep roots and their family has to be made of rich people since the ancient times.

As someone whose grandparents were rich, she knows that richness doesn’t just come in a few years. Especially up to the one Mr. Ronald holds. How come she had never heard of this Mr. Ronald being called even back then to their college when they graduated if he really owned huge shares in Tony's organization?

Or was he only a businessman, rich and spending his money in investing?

At this point, she felt like her heart was only trying to ease her situation and encourage her into thinking that Mr. Ronald was too good to be true. There was also no backing down anymore, like one of the phrases her grandmother wrote in her journal, she realized it was going to be to show up and face what has to come.

The view of the massive, black iron-wrought gate widened as the lights from Tony’s car triggered the automatic lock and the gate opened wide for them to enter. They entered the road lined with conifers and whistling trees that was not tarmacked but it was tiled allowing the car to smoothly maneuver into the compound to the deepest part where their sprawling castle-like mansion was located.

Anita stretched her limbs as she yawned.

“The smell of your home has awoken you?” Tony asked while smiling at her.

“It seems,” she answered.

When they reached in front of the main entrance, he offered to be her valet which she gladly accepted and started to walk away.

“Ain’t you forgetting something?” Tony asked, leaning with a grin on his car.

Anita turned towards him questionably only to see him open wide his arms. Oh dear. She had forgotten to give him a good night hug. She walked into his arms and hugged him without having anything in mind.

And for the first time, she felt like her heart was not so filled or did it have any sparks from his hug! While still wandering off, she felt his lips on her forehead that brought a widening of her eyes as she did not see that coming at all.

Even when he released her, she still had the animated expression on her face bringing Tony to let out a chuckle.

“Goodnight my love,” Tony said, waking her from her trance when he started his engine.

She only nodded woodenly and Tony drove off. Anita stood for a little while before heading for the door. In her mind, she wondered if Tony had another meaning for his actions.

She noticed the lights in the lounge earlier and now surprisingly they were out. It was only nine o’clock and she wasn’t going to believe that her parents had slept, then who was in the lounge? The servants? Anita smiled at her parent’s antics.

When she walked into the house, she was greeted by the lanterns her grandparents made that always attracted the fireflies. They sprawled all over the grass illuminating that area with their glow. She squatted to admire them, pretending to not see the cup and saucer on the table.

She walked further in and felt the warmth from the shut heater. All she could do was smile and head upstairs to her room. The servants by the corridor greeted her as she went up.

She walked into the shower as soon as she arrived in her massive bedroom and had a pleasant warm bath afterwards. She wore her pajamas and lay in her gigantic platform bed.

She was staring at the ceiling illumination made from the solar system style. Looking at her ceiling was like looking into the vast universe. It made her think that her grandparents never slept, they even made a replica of the universe above their heads to help them with thinking on matters related to that universe.

Yet, this universe bringing light into her bedroom that she needed not to switch her lights on, brought her into thinking of two men. Tony and on the other hand, Mr. Ronald. Strangely, she couldn’t stop herself from doing so.

Was it because of Mr. Ronald's beauty that was unexplained? Was it the weird light kiss on her forehead that Tony placed? There was nothing that could explain the phenomenon in her mind right now.

Maybe it was because Mr. Ronald had threatened her with something that might be truly a trap. The probability of that was high. On the other hand, Tony had revealed a lot of information to her that she couldn’t take in on Mr. Ronald’s mysteriousness. And also, she did not forget to remember the other stranger who was Mr. Ronald’s friend and was offering to give her a helping hand.

And like that, laying under the illumination of the ceiling universe, her eyes finally drifted close. The next thing she knew, her curtains had automatically been pulled apart by the sunlight that was already streaming through her floor to ceiling windows. During the day, the magical ceiling universe did not glow as it attracted the light from the sun to glow at night. Also, it was only a drawing that no one knew it’s night magic unless they witnessed it for themselves.
