Chapter 3

ROWENA'S POV

"Working in a coffee shop was a lot harder than I expected," I thought, as I walked down the road after work that evening.

I had to attend to various kinds of people, and there was one older man that couldn't make up his mind, and it was very frustrating.

"What can I get you, sir?" I asked with a smile.

"A cup of latte please," he replied, and I went to get it for him.

After I returned with it, "Did I say latte? I mean iced Americano" he said.

"Excuse me, sir," I said, raising my voice.

"You're going to have to pay for the latte I already got."

"I made a mistake, all humans make mistakes," he said sentimentally.

"I know, sir, but we can't lose because of your errors," I replied calmly, ignoring the rage rising in my throat.

"It's fine, that's enough," Peter interrupted when the man was about to reply.

"I'll pay for it," he added, and that was it.

It annoyed me that he decided to be the bigger person but I just kept mute the rest of the day.

I kept walking, and I soon approached the local club.

I noticed the very unusual crowd and walked to get a closer view of what had everyone so fascinated.

"Isn't that Eugene?" I asked no one in particular.

"Oh no!" I whispered.

I could see everything and what he was dealing with, yet I couldn't help.

Neither could I hold back the tears that stung my eyes so badly.

I wanted to walk away.

My plan for this century was to live a normal life and try my best not to get involved with Eugene, but I couldn't.

I couldn't just leave him there to die.

I waited till everything died down and rushed over to help him.

"Are you okay?" I asked, clutching his head to my chest, though he didn't reply.

The funniest thing is that even though I get reborn, I still have the same agility, speed, and wisdom I had while I was a guardian.

I guess mother nature showed me some mercy.

I carried him with ease and walked quietly to my apartment as the cool breeze filled the atmosphere.

"Seems like Giselle is brewing spells again," I thought.

*************************************

"Welcome home, Miss Rowena," a familiar voice whispered.

"Ah!, you startled me. What are you doing here, Giselle?" I jerked, slowly putting Jaden on my bed.

There was nothing spectacular about where I lived.

I stayed in a not-so-furnished one storey building.

"You know, for someone who hasn't seen her sister in years, that wasn't the reception I was expecting," said Giselle.

"I'm sorry." I rushed over to her with my arms wide open for an embrace.

We hugged for a few seconds.

Who am I kidding? We hugged for minutes.

I don't get to see my sister often.

"I see you're still doing this. Seriously? You're still doing this whole love thing?" She replied, pointing at Eugene.

She was the only one among my sisters that cared to see the man I was crazy about.

"It's not like I can escape it, can I ?" I replied wryly.

"What's wrong with him though? Is he drunk or something?"

"Something like that,"  I replied and we sat to catch up.

We talked for hours about random things, then I decided to ask her about what I heard.

"Speaking of him, I have something important to ask you," I said, dragging Giselle to the balcony.

"What's up?" She replied, leaning on the railings.

"This evening, I was coming back from work..."

"You work? Hilarious," teased Giselle.

"Focus! As I was saying, I saw him being tormented by wizards. They said something about Prince Jaden. Do you by any chance know who that is?"

I noticed the uneasiness and disbelief on Giselle's face.

"That's strange, remember the Wizard Counsel?" She began.

"I've heard about the wizard counsel, but it's been a very long time ago."

I nodded and drew closer to her.

This felt like a top secret.

"Well, thousands of years ago, long before you were born, I was only a child then. The wizard council banished about twenty wizards who called themselves the crucifix. They committed treason by invading the palace and killing the wizard King, his wife, and his son, Prince Jaden, but I don't know if he was ever reborn."

"Wait, that actually happened? I thought it was just a myth." I replied in disbelief.

"But it can't be this Jaden, right?, I've only met normal Eugenes for centuries and how is he bearing the exact same name?" I continued.

"Stick to one name, Rowena, don't get me confused."

"Sorry".

"You're right, though, maybe they had the wrong person."

"Riiiightt, but...."

"Where am I?" whispered a voice as we turned around to see a healthy Jaden.

All his bruises were gone, I stared in awe.

"Uhmm, remember me? From the coffee shop, I met you lying unconsciously by the roadside, and I decided to help."

"I don't remember you, I only remember going to the club." His eyes were filled with confusion.

"You mean you don't remember anything else?" I asked further, walking slowly towards him, and he immediately backed away.

"At all, who's the other girl?" With a suspicious expression on his face, he said.

"Girl?, Some people just don't know who to respect,"whispered Giselle.

Though she was older than I and Clair, she looked the youngest for some reason.

She's also the prettiest.

My hands were clasped together.

"That's my sister Gi...Gene... Geneva," I blurted.

"Ok, thanks for your help. I really appreciate it," he said as he checked the time on his watch.

"Woah, I have to go, I have to go now. Where's the way out?" He yelled, and I and Giselle pointed in unison.

"Oh no, the case, the results, my car!" He kept muttering, "It's almost daybreak," till he was out of sight.

"Seriously? Geneva, you couldn't come up with something a little nicer?"

"Come on, I was in a tight spot. How's everyone by the way?" I asked as we walked back into the room.

"Uhmm, I'm pretty sure they still hate you," replied Giselle, as we both laughed.

"They sure know how to hold a grudge," I said amidst laughter.

*******************************

The pain in my head was unbelievable as I slowly opened my eyes.

"What happened? Where am I?" I asked myself, and immediately I heard traces of voices and quickly followed.

I walked out of the coffee woman's apartment, wondering why I was there in the first place.

Yes, I lied. I remember her.

But I don't remember anything beyond getting into my car with Stacy.

I got a taxi and got to the club, got into my car and headed for work... despite the fact that I hadn't taken a shower.
