Chapter 3
ROWENA'S POV"Working in a coffee shop was a lot harder than I expected," I thought, as I walked down the road after work that evening. I had to attend to various kinds of people, and there was one older man that couldn't make up his mind, and it was very frustrating."What can I get you, sir?" I asked with a smile. "A cup of latte please," he replied, and I went to get it for him. After I returned with it, "Did I say latte? I mean iced Americano" he said."Excuse me, sir," I said, raising my voice."You're going to have to pay for the latte I already got.""I made a mistake, all humans make mistakes," he said sentimentally. "I know, sir, but we can't lose because of your errors," I replied calmly, ignoring the rage rising in my throat."It's fine, that's enough," Peter interrupted when the man was about to reply. "I'll pay for it," he added, and that was it.It annoyed me that he decided to be the bigger person but I just kept mute the rest of the day.I kept walking, and I soon approached the local club.I noticed the very unusual crowd and walked to get a closer view of what had everyone so fascinated."Isn't that Eugene?" I asked no one in particular."Oh no!" I whispered. I could see everything and what he was dealing with, yet I couldn't help.Neither could I hold back the tears that stung my eyes so badly.I wanted to walk away.My plan for this century was to live a normal life and try my best not to get involved with Eugene, but I couldn't.I couldn't just leave him there to die. I waited till everything died down and rushed over to help him."Are you okay?" I asked, clutching his head to my chest, though he didn't reply. The funniest thing is that even though I get reborn, I still have the same agility, speed, and wisdom I had while I was a guardian.I guess mother nature showed me some mercy.I carried him with ease and walked quietly to my apartment as the cool breeze filled the atmosphere."Seems like Giselle is brewing spells again," I thought.*************************************"Welcome home, Miss Rowena," a familiar voice whispered."Ah!, you startled me. What are you doing here, Giselle?" I jerked, slowly putting Jaden on my bed. There was nothing spectacular about where I lived.I stayed in a not-so-furnished one storey building."You know, for someone who hasn't seen her sister in years, that wasn't the reception I was expecting," said Giselle."I'm sorry." I rushed over to her with my arms wide open for an embrace. We hugged for a few seconds.Who am I kidding? We hugged for minutes.I don't get to see my sister often."I see you're still doing this. Seriously? You're still doing this whole love thing?" She replied, pointing at Eugene. She was the only one among my sisters that cared to see the man I was crazy about."It's not like I can escape it, can I ?" I replied wryly."What's wrong with him though? Is he drunk or something?""Something like that," I replied and we sat to catch up.We talked for hours about random things, then I decided to ask her about what I heard."Speaking of him, I have something important to ask you," I said, dragging Giselle to the balcony."What's up?" She replied, leaning on the railings."This evening, I was coming back from work...""You work? Hilarious," teased Giselle."Focus! As I was saying, I saw him being tormented by wizards. They said something about Prince Jaden. Do you by any chance know who that is?"I noticed the uneasiness and disbelief on Giselle's face."That's strange, remember the Wizard Counsel?" She began. "I've heard about the wizard counsel, but it's been a very long time ago."I nodded and drew closer to her. This felt like a top secret."Well, thousands of years ago, long before you were born, I was only a child then. The wizard council banished about twenty wizards who called themselves the crucifix. They committed treason by invading the palace and killing the wizard King, his wife, and his son, Prince Jaden, but I don't know if he was ever reborn." "Wait, that actually happened? I thought it was just a myth." I replied in disbelief."But it can't be this Jaden, right?, I've only met normal Eugenes for centuries and how is he bearing the exact same name?" I continued."Stick to one name, Rowena, don't get me confused.""Sorry"."You're right, though, maybe they had the wrong person.""Riiiightt, but....""Where am I?" whispered a voice as we turned around to see a healthy Jaden. All his bruises were gone, I stared in awe."Uhmm, remember me? From the coffee shop, I met you lying unconsciously by the roadside, and I decided to help.""I don't remember you, I only remember going to the club." His eyes were filled with confusion."You mean you don't remember anything else?" I asked further, walking slowly towards him, and he immediately backed away."At all, who's the other girl?" With a suspicious expression on his face, he said."Girl?, Some people just don't know who to respect,"whispered Giselle.Though she was older than I and Clair, she looked the youngest for some reason. She's also the prettiest. My hands were clasped together."That's my sister Gi...Gene... Geneva," I blurted."Ok, thanks for your help. I really appreciate it," he said as he checked the time on his watch."Woah, I have to go, I have to go now. Where's the way out?" He yelled, and I and Giselle pointed in unison."Oh no, the case, the results, my car!" He kept muttering, "It's almost daybreak," till he was out of sight."Seriously? Geneva, you couldn't come up with something a little nicer?" "Come on, I was in a tight spot. How's everyone by the way?" I asked as we walked back into the room."Uhmm, I'm pretty sure they still hate you," replied Giselle, as we both laughed."They sure know how to hold a grudge," I said amidst laughter.*******************************The pain in my head was unbelievable as I slowly opened my eyes. "What happened? Where am I?" I asked myself, and immediately I heard traces of voices and quickly followed.I walked out of the coffee woman's apartment, wondering why I was there in the first place.Yes, I lied. I remember her.But I don't remember anything beyond getting into my car with Stacy.I got a taxi and got to the club, got into my car and headed for work... despite the fact that I hadn't taken a shower.Chapter 4*The Wizard Kingdom, The Central Coven Of Wizardry.*Queen Griselda, the Witch of the Central Coven, sat in her golden chair looking at the five sons of Zed who were utterly beaten up and bloody from the fight last night. She stood up, paced a little, and then sat back down, took a look at the wizard beside her, and shook her head in disappointment."You had one simple instruction, and that was to bring Prince Jaden to me."Torak, the leader of the brothers, spoke up in pain. "We had no idea it would lead to a bloody fight. We tried to reason with..."he stated.Griselda's eyes furrowed with confusion. "You tried to talk someone into joining you and he ended up beating you all to a pulp? That story sounds eerie to me, did you perhaps enrage him?" she asked, picking up her wand.Torak's eyes widened as he stared at Rafael, who stood close to Queen Griselda. Rafael is the Queen's right-hand man and royal wizard. She told him to send the sons of Zed to bring Jaden back alive, bu
Chapter 5WRITER'S POV"You again!" He looked surprised."We need to leave now." Rowena said, rushing to the other part of the car and getting in.Jaden wondered why this coffee lady was stalking him, but with the intensity in her voice, he felt that something was really wrong. For some reason, he believed her. As he got in, he began driving. His mom was buried in a small church cemetery in Roseville. So the drive to the main town takes about an hour or so. They were driving in silence, and Jaden was a bit confused about everything. He immediately put the car to a halt."Why'd you stop?" She asked nicely. He cursed himself for not even thinking, "What if this lady was some serial killer?"Rowena knew that he had a lot of questions, but this wasn't the time to answer them."Who the hell are you really?"..and why did you follow me all the way from town to Roseville? Are you stalking me?""Eu.. Jaden, I understand that you need answers, but now is really not the time for...""Wait, how
JADEN'S POV I slowly opened my eyes, trying to ignore the splitting headache I was having. The evil... woman, wizard, lady was gone, and the coffee shop girl was lying beside me. Images of what had just happened flooded my mind as I stood on the road. "I really used magic?" I asked, staring at my arms like they were going to answer me. I pointed to a tree and yelled "flames." Nothing happened, but a few birds flew away because my yell startled them. "Flames is a little too cliché. Wizard spells should be all spooky and scary," I said to myself. I assumed a more confident stance and yelled, " Flamino uhhh fireo?" "What the hell am I doing?" I giggled and immediately realized the coffee lady was still on the ground. "Hey, are you okay?" I tapped vigorously. She was burning up and was unconscious, so I quickly took her to my house. I paced to and fro as I waited for her to wake up. I had tons of questions after I did a mental check to make sure all I'd just experienced was not o
WRITER'S POV Rafael immediately walked to the cell where Gwen was being held and asked the guards around to leave so he could question her privately. "You said something about him being accompanied by someone?" Rafael asked Gwen, who was bound by chains on both hands and feet. "Yes, do you think I won't be able to handle a person who just found out he could use magic?" She snapped. "I did not say I don't believe you; what did she look like?" Rafael asked, biting his fingers like he feared her response. "She had platinum hair, and her eyes were too glittery and blue; she looked like a real human woman till the moment she started to glow." " Her....." Gwen cried, her eyes tearing up. "It's exactly as I feared." He already has a guardian beside him; I don't know how that's possible," Rafael replied, turning to leave. "Why do you want to kill him?" Gwen yelled in despair, and Rafael raced back in. "How dare you yell that?" Rafael spoke fiercely; he walked close to her and took her
"Do you not want me to stay?" Giselle asked as I stood with my hands crossed over my chest while she stood on my doorstep. She came unannounced, not like she ever tells me before she comes, saying she was going to be staying with me for a few weeks because she believes I'm lonely and likely to make vile decisions. She was dressed in a black long jacket, black shorts, and, I kid you not, a top hat, looking like a low-budget magician."Come in," I muttered, moving aside for her to step in. I didn't notice a suitcase till she was fully inside the apartment."Wow! "You are really serious," I said unbelievably, and I walked to my room and slammed the door behind her. It wasn't making any sense at all,"Open the door this instant before I get mad," she yelled, banging on the door, and I swear I saw a lightning bolt pass through the door knob."You of all people should know that I've been through so much to let a threat get to me."The banging stopped, and I thought she just wanted to trick
Rowena******I flew into the air at the first attack Gwen threw at me; my magic wasn't working. I could hear sounds of Jaden getting mercilessly beaten, and I hit the ground."Focus, Ro. Channel your emotions." I whispered to myself and kept whispering, but it was like pouring water on stone.Fruitless! Was I hallucinating the last time?I stretched my hands and imagined myself levitating, still channeling my rage and the thousand emotions I was feeling; it worked perfectly in my head, but I was still firmly rooted to the ground.Great! I got into a fight with wizards without checking if my powers worked."You would have made it a lot easier for the both of us if you had just let him go." "Now take a look at him," Gwen laughed as she slowly lifted me in the air. For the first time since our fight started, I caught a glimpse of Jaden.Sprawled on the floorHalf-dead maybewith blood coming out everywhere.Gwen's twin sister is definitely a lot more twisted."I thought
Chapter 10Writer's povBack at the covenRafael paced back and forth in his chambers, clutching his pocket dagger tightly, showing how irritated he was getting. Gwendoline and Georgia were supposed to be back with great news long before now, but they were both nowhere to be seen. Not even a sign of Prince Jaden, at least.Rafael was obviously running out of patience, and it was evident in his facial expression as beads of sweat ran freely from his forehead down to his slightly pointed nose."The Queen demands your presence immediately, sir Rafael."With a wave of his hand, Rafael dismissed the guard that had come to deliver the message to him. "Why does she want to see me?" he thought. "Gwen has probably messed things up again."He dabbed his face with a towel and made sure he looked as relaxed as possible. If by chance the Queen found out about his plan to kill the prince, he was ready to deny every bit of it.One more glance at the mirror and he was sure he was good to go, then he h
Chapter 11*Writer's pov*"Howdy, mate," Aaron's unpolished British accent jolted Jaden back to the present, and he turned to face him fully. The cup of coffee in his hand was steaming hot and still looked untouched. "What's bothering you, Jaden?""This is the most complicated case I've ever handled in a long time." "Why is everything taking so long?"Aaron kept staring at him, you know, with that "are you sure about that?" look."You know...." Aaron started and slowly sat at the edge of the desk. "You can lie to any other person in this entire world, including your uncle, but you can't lie to me." C'mon, man, tell me what's eating you up. I know it's something more than this case."Jaden stopped what he was fake-typing and relaxed in his chair, stroking his chin. He struggled with different thoughts about whether or not to tell Aaron about all his encounters, about Elle or the sons of Zed or the twin witches that attacked him, about his realistic dreams that had just been reoccurring
