Chapter 3

ADRIA’S POV

My tummy growled in excitement as my eyes fell on him. He was breathtakingly handsome, and I couldn’t take my eyes off him so easily.

Somehow, the way he stared at me felt like he was reading me deeper than I thought. How could someone hot as this, prefer to be a Professor, and waste his hot physique in a college?

My eyes fluttered as I came back to my senses, then I cleared my throat.

“Good day, Professor Lucien. I’m Adria, and I just resumed classes today.” I introduced myself so as not to give myself an “F” in being respectful.

“And you are here to?” He questioned as he leaned on the table, boring a hole at me with his seductive, and charismatic eyes.

He had a sharp stare, one which anyone could fall for, but I didn’t want to seem so unserious, so I had to keep calling myself back to my senses to remind me to behave myself.

“I…I came to tender my assignment. I heard you gave them an assignment, so I decided to do mine as well.” I smiled as I handed it over to him.

He collected it without taking his eyes from me, which was beginning to seem a bit weird, because his stares gave me an electricity charge, and I felt he could make me fall in love with him if he just kept staring at me.

Finally, he took his gaze off me, and flipped through the pages of my assignment. I hoped he was going to be impressed about how hardworking and serious I was as a student, especially since I did a deep research on the assignment.

“This is good.” He replied, then dropped it on the other assignments on his table.

The smile on my face faded away as I wasn’t expecting him to say such even if he had to comment on it now. If it were Professor Jones, he would have commended my extra efforts.

“I… I kind of put extra efforts into this. Made a deep research on it to give true facts.”

“That’s good. I’ll also go through your assignments, and grade them as I ought to.”

“Alright then. Thank you.” I replied flatly, feeling discouraged.

I turned around to leave, and as I was about to open the door, he stopped me.

“You said you’re Adria, right?”

“Yes I am.” I responded as I turned around to him.

“Have you lived here all your life?” He questioned as he sat on the table.

I wasn’t expecting that question, but I guess it wasn’t weird to reply.

“Uhm…Yes.”

“Do you perhaps feel anything like a connection drawing you in or something?”

Now, this was getting weird.

“Uhm… I’m sorry. I…I think I have to leave.” I muttered out, and excused myself out.

I walked out of the hallway, and headed for class.

“Adria!” I heard my friends calling out to me.

I looked towards the direction of their voices, and joy filled my heart when I saw them. They were the best friends one could ever ask for, and I was lucky to have them.

I walked up to them, and they hugged me, giving me no space to breathe.

“Guys… You’re choking me.” I managed to speak out as I tried to release myself from their grip.

“We’re so sorry.” They chuckled, and let me go.

“So, it seems you really enjoyed the holidays. You’re looking more beautiful now.” Daniel complimented me with a smile on his face.

I blushed a little, and hit his chest to cover up my blush.

“Now, I know I’ve resumed back to school, and it feels so nice to be back.”

“It’s so good to have you back. By the way, have you submitted your assignment? You said you wanted to submit it today.” Stacy asked, out of curiosity.

“Yes, I have.” I replied flatly, knowing fully why she asked.

“Really? So, you saw the Professor. You see I was right. He is damn hot.” Stacy said, looking like she was dreaming about him.

“Well, you’re right, but I don’t really see him as someone I would be drooling over. I have missed our former history teacher.”

“Oh, goodness. Can you for once forget about books, and think about something more fun?” Stacy grunted, and folded her arms.

“I really don’t know. He asks too much questions, and they’re all weird.” I exhaled, and we continued walking towards the class.

As soon as we got to class, we all settled down at the back as the class was surprisingly full.

“What the… I’m surprised. Why are there so many people in attendance, today?” I asked, surprised at how many people attended history class.

Since I had been coming to this college, I had never seen this much people coming in for history class, and this was baffling.

“Well, thanks to Professor Lucien, some lazy, and bored fools are quite excited to attend the class today. And their attendance has pushed us to sit at the back.” Stacy uttered, and blew her fringe up.

“The man is cool, and handsome, so people would come, of course. What’s baffling me is the fact that even these guys are also excited to come for his class as well.” Tommy uttered as he rubbed his chin with his index finger, and thumb.

“Exactly! You’re right. I felt this crowd would be filled with girls mostly.” Daniel acknowledged as he brought his books out.

While they were talking about how surprised they were, I could not get my mind off the way he stared at me for a long time, and then was asking weird questions.

Soon, Professor Lucien walked in, and the class fell silent. He walked in with charisma, and one could feel his wave of confidence, sweep over the class.

“Good day, class.” He greeted everyone, without a smile on his face, and everyone answered.

Then his eyes scanned the class like he was looking for someone, but the moment he set his eyes on me, he stopped, and my eyes fluttered in shock. He had his eyes on me for quite a while, and that made things seem cringe.

I cleared my throat, and looked away from him, then bit my lips, hoping he could take his eyes off me because people could trace his stare to me.

It was beginning to seem uncomfortable, and I didn’t think I could go on in whatever this was which felt like a staring contest.

“Adria.” Stacy tapped me while my gaze was directed to the ground, and I responded, and stared at her.

“What, girl?”

“The Professor called you just now.” She responded as she turned her gaze back to the front.

My heart skipped a beat, and my eyes widened because I wasn’t expecting that. What exactly was he calling me for, right now?

I turned my gaze to Professor Lucien, and it was so weird that I had been lost in my thoughts deeply to an extent I didn’t hear him when he called me.

“You called my name.” I muttered out, and a few people laughed a little, while some scoffed.

“Yes, I did.” He replied, then picked up an assignment which seemed to be mine. “In your assignment, I noticed you talked extensively about the American history, and that’s nice.”

I didn’t know why the word “nice” was so annoying right now because how would he classify my work as just nice? This was an effort which I had tried hard to make.

“So, let me ask you. When did they eradicate slavery in the American history?” He directed the question to me, and folded his arms.

I confidently stood up, and cleared my throat first.

“Go, girl.” Stacy cheered me on, in a low tone.

“It was eradicated on December 6, 1865.”

“Alright, so do you feel they did?”

“Yes. That was their 13th amendment, and it was final.”

I felt happy that I knew the answers to these questions, and was answering it with my chin up.

“And that’s where you’ll get a few minuses, miss. It wasn’t fully eradicated because they still used it as a punishment for a crime. When making extensive research, you have to show us that you really did it extensively.”’

Professor Lucien walked back to his book stand, and dropped my assignment back. I felt humiliated, and didn’t have an idea of what to say or do. I could tell people were surprised that a Professor had marked me down, and I couldn’t bear it.

I sat down slowly, and then Stacy tapped me immediately.

“Oh, my goodness. Check the class group chat.”

Anxiety settled deep down in my tummy, making me feel sick. The class group chat barely held good news. I was hoping not to confirm what I thought it was.

I checked the class group chat, and my heart sank, then my tummy made me feel sick as I viewed the messages with a shattered ego.
