Chapter Five

LILY

Judging from other rogues’ attitudes, he must be the Rogue Alpha. He pushed me forwards, his hands still on the crook of my arm.

“Kneel “he spat, and then kicked me to the ground.

“Come on and surrender Old wolf, I know this is your daughter and if you don’t come here to me with your hands up in the air, I’m going to kill her.”

I angrily opened my mouth, intending to shout out some bold words to the enemy before me.

“Shut up Lily!” My father’s mind link stopped me, “You dare to speak out the truth of your identity and stink my reputation, I will make you regret.”

I turned to look at my father with disbelief. I can’t believe all father cares about was me leaking my identity and stinking his reputation! His people were slaughtered and all he cares about was his reputation!

I bowed my head, disappointment crippling me. I was faced with two options. If I told the Rogue Alpha who I really was, then he would realise that I was unimportant and kill me and on the other hand if I kept my mouth shut and went along with the idea that the rogue Alpha could use me as hostage then I would still die because my father would never surrender for me or for the pack.

Whichever way it was, I was stuck in a powerless position. My pack would be slaughtered after my death.

“Lilly, listen to me, you have to hide who you truly are, if they know you are a useless hostage they’d start the slaughter right now.” This is Lee’s mind link, as if he knows what I’m thinking, “You don't want to get us all killed, do you?  Buy us some time to wait for the warriors. After all the pack has raised you up, it’s time for you to return the favour.”

I should be angry at Lee: After all he had done to me, he still had the nerve to ask me to sacrifice my life for him. But after swallowing the bitterness, I realised his correctness. What a tricky man he is to see through me so easily: I didn’t have it in me to let the slaughter happen in front of me.

Eventually I decided to stay quiet to help my pack, even if at the cost of my own life.

Kneeling in front of the Alpha and his hands gripped me tightly. I closed my eyes acknowledging that this was going to be my pitiful end.

A sharp sudden noise in the air interrupted my self pity. When I looked up, I saw an arrow rushing from the pack house’s direction towards me, so determined in its force that its aim must be to kill me.

A firm hand caught the arrow before it reached me.

I couldn’t move for a second until I realised what had happened.

“Open your eyes, “the Rogue Alphas gruff voice filtered into my head, and I did as I was told.

I looked around, searching for any signs of people attacking me, anything that would tell me the arrow came from the rogues. But the fear and adrenaline flowing through me was whispering an ugly truth in my ear.

“Look up here “the Alpha commanded, and I stared into his glowing red eyes that were filled with hate.

In his hands there was the arrow that had been rushing towards me a few minutes ago. He snapped it and his eyes flashed amber, fangs peeking from beneath his curled lips with a smirk.

“Did your own father just try to kill you?”

I knelt there disbelieving what he had just said. Had the arrow come from my father. No, it couldn’t be, maybe one of the Rogue Alpha pack members had accidentally fired at me.

“You don’t believe me” the Rogue Alpha scoffed. ‘Then look.”

I felt a tremor go through my body. I didn’t want to look but I needed to know the truth, I needed to know if my own father had just tried to kill me. Lowering my gaze, I looked towards my fathers direction and I could see that he had shifted back into his human form, his hands tightly clutched a bow.

My father didn’t look away from me, instead he stared at me straight in the eyes. At that moment, I realised too late that I had never been considered family to him.

All around me I could see the Rogue Alphas pack members rounding up members of my own pack, lining them up and placing them into kneeling positions. Even them was shocked by my father’s action.

“Look at you, weak, defenceless, none of them love you. It would be to your own detriment to believe that any one from this pack would ever look at you like an equal.” Rogue Alpha sneered, “Why don’t you and I become mates and we can produce an heir that will kill your father”

He reached out his free hand grabbing my jaw as he lifted my face to meet his eyes.

“Just say yes and we will end your coward of a father together.”

I could not say anything because at that moment tears were streaming down my face, even after I had decided to hide my identity. That I was the bastard child of the Alpha to protect him; he still tried to kill me.

I couldn’t do anything to stop the tears, I just let them flow, the pain in my soul too heavy to bear anymore. It felt like the world around me was crashing into a million bits.

“Tears are for the weak little wolf,” Rogue Alpha said, shaking my face. “The weak don’t cry, they take action to agree to my plan and you will see your father suffer.”

I opened my mouth to speak and heard a roar behind me and saw Lee in his human form being held down by one of the Beta from the Rogue pack.

“Down,” the Beta growled as he kicked Lee to the ground, preventing him from moving.

“You’re a slime Lily. So, you would agree to his plan. You’re that desperate for Love? You should be ashamed of yourself, you weak defenceless woman.”

The Beta that was holding him down moved quickly, lifting Lee from the ground, he punched him across the face before throwing him back down to the ground.

“Don’t address the Alpha that way.”

I had my gaze to the ground, tears streaming from my face and my heart one big giant blackhole. Again, and again and again I had been used and tossed to the side like a rag doll.

“Look at you Bobby, hiding behind a mere teenager. Look at the state of your pack, can you see how pitiful it is? With a snap of my finger, I can send you all into extinction.” Rogue Alpha roared his voice like steel, his hands spread apart like a messiah.

“Come out here and fight me Bobby or I’ll wipe out your pack and fuck your daughter that you so love.”

“Fight me instead, “Lee roared from his position, his face barely visible from beneath the Betas boots.

“You? a weakling, a mere teenager. I would break you apart like a stick, stay out of this, this is between me and that coward Bobby.”

“You’re all talk dog!”

The night suddenly became silent. Dog was the worst name one could call a wolf and it was mainly used as an insult.

I could feel the anger rising from the Rogue Alpha as he stepped forward, moving past me.

“Free him, “he said to the Betas who had Lee.

As soon as Lee was free, he was up on his feet, a mad look in his eyes as he charged for the Alpha, shifting as he moved forward. Rogue Alpha remained calm, unmoving his expression drawn into a poker face.

Just before Lee reached him the Alpha changed swiftly; it was like he hadn’t been standing as a human a few seconds ago. His wolf emerged, big black and with a swipe of his large paws Lee was thrown to the ground in an instant.

Without wasting a second he got on top of Lee, his fangs flashing as he moved in for the kill.
