CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FOUR

“What’s going on?” I ask Jade when he rushes out.

The men in uniform are dragging away the boy and I can see people watching but no one attempts to help. People are walking down the street, most of then pretending not to see anything. But a few of them stop, their hands cured into fists by their sides as they watch, sympathy on their faces.

But no one intervenes.

“Why is no one helping?” Jade asks angrily and when he tries to move, I grab his wrist, stopping him.

“We can’t,” I keep my voice low.

“Sarah!” Jade sounds horrified. “He’s a kid! We-"

“Take Phil with you and see where they take him. We can try to rescue him but if we try to save him right now, in front of everyone, we risk exposing ourselves. We can’t afford to do that. Not yet. Let’s see where they’re taking him and then give it a shot.”

I can see Jade try to retrain himself. I know that it's difficult for him since he has a younger brother around the same age.

I urge him, “Go. Get Phil and go. Make
