Chapter 3

Author: Foie Gras
This time around, I would study hard and live a different life!

Lily refused to let me off so easily, though. Early the next morning, my classmates started giving me strange looks.

It turned out that my chat history with Lily had been shared on the school forum, cut up and twisted out of context. What was supposed to be a private talk between best friends now looked like it was dripping with hormones.

She'd been good at this in our past lives, and she was now running the same play again. It was still impossible to guard against it.

"Hannah looks so pure and innocent. Who would've known that she had such an open mind?"

"I heard she doesn't just have a boyfriend—she also has several sugar daddies outside of school! You think I've got a chance with her?"

"Her grades tanked in the last monthly exam. This proves what caused it!"

A user named YorkInTheMist commented, "I'll tell you a secret, but don't spread it around. Hannah isn't pure anymore."

That was Vincent's account. No doubt his beloved, Lily, had told him to post it. It made the other commenters explode with excitement.

"Whoa, this is so much to take in. Why do I feel like I don't get that?"

"This is too spicy! Hannah Linden is okay with anyone, huh?"

"You just exposed yourself, Vincent. Try not to be too sad."

The thread never got taken down. Later, even the teachers started looking at me funny. Every time Lily passed by, she would lift her chin at me, looking as smug as ever.

Still, I knew the only thing I could do was study.

There were only a few days left until the second mock exam. I shut everything out and locked myself in a world of practice tests.

The second mock exam arrived on schedule. I felt good about my language paper in the morning and answered quickly.

But halfway through math in the afternoon, the head of student discipline, Ms. Johnson, suddenly burst into the exam room.

She marched straight to me, looking furious. "Hannah Linden, someone reported you for cheating!"

I stared back at her, feeling baffled. "I didn't, Ms. Johnson."

"Are you sure? Someone saw you bring a cheat sheet into the exam room!"

All the eyes around me snapped into focus. Some were shocked, but most of them were gloating. I caught the smile on Lily's face and got a bad feeling about this.

Ms. Johnson was known for being thorough. She took me out of the room and searched me from head to toe, more professional than even the airport security.

A crumpled scrap of paper slipped from my shirt pocket. It was covered in math formulas written in tiny handwriting.

"You've been caught red-handed, Hannah. What do you have to say for yourself?"

I denied the accusation with everything I had, but every explanation sounded weak at that moment.

"Cheating on exams is a serious violation. Be glad this isn't the actual college entrance exams, or you could be looking at more severe punishment! Of course, cheating on the second mock exam isn't a small matter, either. Prepare to face disciplinary action!"

Ms. Johnson made me stand outside the classroom while she made several calls.

I was panicking, but I had no idea how to defend myself. I couldn't even remember when that paper could've been planted on me.

Ms. Bolton arrived first, looking incredulous. Even though I'd messed up in the last exam, she still believed I was a good student.

"Ms. Johnson, Hannah has always worked hard in my class. Is there any chance this is a misunderstanding?"

But with the cheat sheet as ironclad evidence, even she had nothing else to say.

The exam ended just then. Minutes later, Lily and a couple of other students walked out, carrying my backpack.

"Ms. Johnson, we just found a bunch of cheat sheets in Hannah's bag. There's one for every subject!"

The teachers took them and examined them carefully.

Ms. Bolton gave me a long, grave look and sighed. "I'm very disappointed in you."

The students filing out of the other exam rooms saw this and started whispering.

"I never would've thought Hannah was like that. Maybe all her grades from before were from cheating."

"Cheating is a huge deal. Do you think she'll get expelled?"

"No way… If she is, she can't sit for the college entrance exams anymore!"

More and more people stopped to watch the drama play out. Ms. Johnson dispersed them immediately and took me straight to the principal's office.

I watched as public opinion slowly shifted into full-on cyberbullying, yet I stayed calm.On one hand, I'd never entered the entertainment industry in this life, so the rumors didn't affect me nearly as much as they had before. On the other hand, because I knew Lily so well, I was fully prepared to fight back this time.I posted the full version of my chat history with her, proving she'd cherry-picked and deliberately misled others. The online community quickly called her a repeat fraud, saying most of what she claimed probably had a different story behind it.As more people started following the drama, I uploaded the videos and audio I'd recorded this whole time, including her confession about framing me for cheating and proof that she and Vincent were secretly dating. The school then publicly announced their support for me. The principal, Ms. Johnson, Ms. Bolton, and other people recorded videos and sincerely apologized to me. On the school forum, my classmates started apology

When bribing and coaxing didn't work, Mom and Dad switched to their usual intimidation routine. They grabbed whatever was at hand and started beating me up."Don't hit her face—that's the money-maker!"In this life, I'd worked myself to the bone to claw my way into Prestige College. Even if they beat me to death, I wouldn't go back to the path I'd taken in my past life!Mom and Dad were in the middle of beating me up when the doorbell suddenly rang."Who is it?""Is this Hannah Linden's house? I'm here to deliver something!" It was George's voice.Mom and Dad exchanged a look. "Could it be the school sending a bonus or scholarship?"Once George stepped inside, his expression turned serious. "Someone has reported both of you for abusing your child!""Who are you? You can't blame us for getting rough if you spout more of that nonsense!" Dad threatened, raising a fist.George pulled out his press ID and followed the sound of my cries to my room. He found me locked inside.Mom an

The phone call put Lily in a much better mood. She started her live stream again. "Whatever score I got, I still think it's great because I did my best!"I was sick of watching her preen in front of the camera. I shut the computer down and headed back to my basement room. I exhaled in relief at the thought of my score and couldn't help smiling.…As one of the trending faces during exam season, Lily was invited onto yet another talk show. She had a sweet tongue and was relatively good at holding a conversation, so she and the host hit it off.She looked a little awkward when asked about her college entrance exam score, but for people who didn't know her backstory, 974 wasn't exactly something to be ashamed of.Then, the host's next question completely threw her off."We heard your high school turned out a real prodigy this year. Do you happen to know her, Lily?""A prodigy? I'm not too sure about that."The host smiled and said, "She earned a perfect score on the essay section

The college entrance exams were finally over. At least I could say I'd given my all without regrets. I rested for a bit and was the last one to leave the exam room."Lucky you—you actually made it in time!" Lily's sinister voice cut in. "But I heard you were 20 minutes late. No way you finished the last few important questions. You're done for!"I sneered. "Thanks for caring so much and waiting for me everywhere. People might think you've got a crush on me.""You—" She hadn't expected me to suddenly fight back when I was usually a quiet doormat. She couldn't come up with a retort.I turned and walked off. Everything would come down to the score release. In the meantime, Lily went viral online and was jokingly dubbed the most beautiful test-taker.An entertainment company spotted the opportunity, signed her, and put her on a few shows. That day, a little boy around four or five suddenly darted out from the roadside and wrapped his arms around my leg, crying his eyes out. Right after, an elderly, plain-looking woman hurried over, saying he was her grandson.Relying on my memories from my previous life, I recognized the little boy as George's son. As for that so-called "grandmother", she was a notorious human trafficker I'd seen in the news!I immediately shouted for help and called the police. When the crowd heard the woman was a trafficker, they jumped in to help. The situation got resolved smoothly.Afterward, George came by to thank me. When he saw I was struggling, he left me his card and said I could reach out anytime if I needed help.…The first two days of the college entrance exams were over, and I'd performed the way I should. The results of the second mock exam were out—Lily ranked first in the entire school, while I got a zero. I was dead last. For the next month, I lived off the meager wages from odd jobs and rented a basement room just to scrape by.I no longer had my own table and chair in the classroom anymore. As punishment for cheating, I was forced to stand at the very back for every class. My classmates said, "She won't get tired. Standing in class is great—it'll keep her from dozing off and stop her from wasting energy on those lewd things she does out there."I'd weighed my options and considered making a debut in the entertainment industry again. Maybe I could use the experience from my past life to dodge risks and chase profits, ending up even more famous than before. But that wasn't what I wanted. To change my fate, I swallowed everything in silence, spending every spare minute grinding through practice problems. Finally, it was the day of the college entrance exams. The language paper
