Cassandra’s voice was sharp with quiet panic as she gripped Vaughn’s arm.

“Take her upstairs. To the guest room. She’s in no condition to be seen like this. I’ll join you once I finish speaking to your father.”

Vaughn frowned but obeyed, half-carrying, half-guiding Alpha Vellora through the corridors of the mansion. She stumbled against him, her perfume dizzying, her voice slurred yet soft.

“Careful,” he muttered, steadying her. “You shouldn’t have had so much.”

Vellora gave a weak laugh, the sound strangely melodic.

“You don’t understand, Vaughn… I didn’t drink too much. I was supposed to…”

Her words drifted into incoherence before she could finish. Vaughn sighed and opened the door to the guest room, gently lowering her onto the bed.

The silk sheets whispered under her as he pulled the blanket up. He straightened, ready to leave, when her hand suddenly caught his wrist.
