Chapter 7

作者: Ethereal Dreams
When I saw all the things in my wallet scattered across the floor after Samantha threw it at me, it felt like I was being stripped naked in public.

Samantha continued coldly as she held up the photo, "You didn't choose the photo over what little cash you have in that wallet?"

I looked at the few bills on the floor and answered softly, "Yeah. The wallet's worth a lot more than the photo. After all, that's just an old photo from years ago. It's nothing but a worthless piece of paper."

Only I knew how badly my heart hurt when I said those words. I could not even imagine how disappointed she must have felt hearing those words.

Just as expected, Samantha's face darkened with anger and disappointment as she said, "So, you really do care more about money. In that case, there's no point in keeping this photo!"

With that, she tore the photo into pieces right in front of everyone and flung the scraps in my face.

As I watched the only thing tying us together get shredded apart, my heart was shredded along with it. To her, it might have been nothing more than a photograph. To me, it had been the last piece of my memories.

In an instant, my chest filled with bitterness, but there was nowhere for me to unleash it.

"Don't ever show up in front of me again! It just makes me hate you more every time I see you! I'll make your life a living hell if I ever see you again! I'll do everything you did to me many times over!" Samantha roared as she shot me one last look of hatred before walking away without looking back at me.

I tried not to snivel and forced down the ache in my chest before crouching down to pick up the things scattered across the floor.

After I gathered the money and everything else from my wallet, I looked at the torn pieces of the photo on the floor. Even our faces had been ripped apart. The beautiful memories we once had could never be put back together.

The only thing that had kept me company through all those dark days now lay in front of me in fragments. My hands shuddered as I reached for the scraps, but a gust of wind swept them away and scattered them in every direction.

At that moment, I knew I had lost even the last thing I had left.

Forcing down the pain inside me, I left the banquet hall and went to find my supervisor. "I'm sorry. Something happened just now."

The supervisor looked at me impatiently. "I know. Get changed and leave."

I knew that once Samantha found out about this, I might have to look for another job again. "I'm sorry."

I was just going to leave and not even ask for my pay. Those wine glasses alone were worth more than the few hours of wages I had earned.

"Wait. Here's your pay." The supervisor suddenly called me back and shoved the money into my hand. "Don't ask any questions and just take it. You're lucky this time that the boss isn't coming after you."

I was a little surprised. Had Samantha not complained to the boss about me? They had even paid me. Nevertheless, I nodded and said, "Thank you. I understand."

Whether it had anything to do with her or not, I knew I had to leave as soon as possible.

I walked out through the back door of the hotel. My scooter was parked right behind the building. Just as I reached it, a familiar voice sounded behind me.

"It's so hard to get rid of you, Arthur. You even followed us here. But judging from what happened there, your little act to get close to her didn't work out so well."

Harry's voice came from behind me, and several others appeared with him.

I turned around to look at him. He did not look friendly, and the bodyguards beside him all looked tense. He had never come looking for me without a reason, and it had never been anything good.

I took a few steps back, ready to make a run for it at any moment.

When I arrived at the hospital, the nurse was trying to calm Theodora down. When the nurse saw me, she immediately said, "Mr. Parker, can you please talk to her?"Theodora stood up the moment she saw me. "Artie, why did you lie to me? Didn't you say it was just a cold? Why did it end up being something else instead?"Theodora had lost a lot of weight in just a few days, and she looked at me with tears in her eyes.My heart wrenched, and my throat tightened. I had never felt so upset before. "I'm sorry, Mom. I didn't mean to lie to you. I was just afraid you wouldn't be able to accept it."Theodora had never remarried. She had raised me alone and put me through university by herself. She had experienced hardship for decades because of it.After I finally got into a good university, I met Samantha there. Our relationship had been wonderful, and I found a good job after graduation. We had planned to bring Theodora to live with us after we got married. Everything seemed so perfect.

I knew I would not be able to last much longer under the blazing sun if I were to properly queue up to buy the coffee for Samantha.I then counted the people in front of me. There were still more than a dozen people in front of me. At an average of three minutes per cup, it would take nearly an hour before it reached me. By then, not only would I fail to get the coffee, but I might even fall unconscious right there. So, I came up with a plan and tapped the shoulder of the person in front of me. "Miss, I'll give you five dollars if you let me cut in line. With that, your order is basically free, and it's only one person cutting in line in front of you."She quickly agreed. I then paid my way forward one person at a time until I reached the front and successfully bought the coffee. It only cost me a little over a hundred dollars. Compared with fainting there, paying hospital bills, and having my wages deducted, that hundred dollars was worth it.After I briefly explained, Samantha f

"There's no more possibility for us."Samantha had just turned on the listening device when she heard those words. Unfortunately, she had not heard anything before that. Only that one sentence. The moment she heard it, a complicated look appeared on her face. There was disappointment, anger…Those were his own words.Fine. No more possibility, was it? Then there would really be no more possibility for them! No matter how beautiful the memories had been, no matter how deeply they had once loved each other, once that love was gone, it was gone forever. Not to mention that man had lied to her and hurt her so deeply! All her expectations disappeared in that instant. She would not give him another chance to explain, not even the chance she had once wanted to give him!Samantha turned off the listening device in anger.-After hearing my answer, Harry finally let go of my collar and said, "I hope you keep your word. Otherwise, just remember, it takes very little effort for me to cru

Harry looked a little surprised when he saw me coming out of Samantha's office. "Arthur? Why are you here? Did you come to see Sammy? What for?"I noticed the breakfast he was holding in his hand. He must have bought it for Samantha. Someone had already brought her breakfast, yet she still wanted to toy with me…I walked past Harry and headed for the door without giving him another look.Soon, Samantha's voice came from behind me. "Harry, you're here! I've been waiting for your breakfast for a while."Harry smiled. "Yeah, traffic was bad, so I was a little late. You didn't get too hungry, did you?""No. I was waiting to have it with you," Samantha said before pulling Harry into her office.I could picture how sweet they looked together just by listening to their voices behind me, just as we did many years ago. But all of that was gone now, with all that was left being regrets.A sudden ache spread through my chest. Was this why she wanted me by her side?Just so she could torm

Eaton brought me to Samantha's villa."Mr. Parker, your room is on the first floor. You'll be expected to live here from now on. If you need anything, come to me, or ask Mr. Bennett."Eaton left after that. There was no one else in the manor at this hour. Even the house staff seemed to be gone.Since I was already here, I could only settle in for now. After I finished unpacking, I went to bed. The whole night passed peacefully.-The next morning, a staff member called Mary Smith called me to breakfast after I woke up. "Hurry up and have some breakfast, Arthur. Ms. Scott will be leaving for work soon. The car is in the garage. The previous drivers all used that same car for work. Just wait outside for her later."I quickly got up and ate breakfast. Then, I drove the car out and stood by the entrance, waiting for Samantha. Before long, she appeared at the door. When she saw me, she only gave me a cool glance before walking toward the car. I opened the door for her, and she got i

I looked at the man who claimed to be my father as he turned to leave, and my heart could not calm down for a long time."If I died one day, would that be a good thing for you?" I asked as I clenched my fists, looking at Charlie.Everyone would yearn for their parents' love, and for me, that was something I had once wished for as well. Now, it had simply turned into despair."Stop saying pointless things like that in front of me. If you had made something of yourself, you wouldn't have ended up like this. I'll transfer the money to you later. Figure out the rest yourself." Charlie even complained after that, "How did I end up with a son like you? I sometimes wonder if I'm cursed!"I glanced at my mother's photo beside me. It was displayed in the cabinet, and she was smiling at me. It was a smile I had not seen in a very long time. Even the memory of it had blurred, but that smile made my chest fill with pain. My nose started to sting, and my eyes became red. She had once been the p
