Chapter 2

Author: Perfect Timing
I had only minor injuries, so my wounds were treated quickly.

Olivia hadn't woken up yet, and Hades refused to leave her side, ignoring his own injuries in the process. Even the doctors couldn't stand it anymore and asked me to try talking some sense into him.

One look at his knee told me it had stopped bleeding, but its shape looked distorted, and the injury seemed dislocated.

I said, "The doctor says your leg injury is serious. Why don't you let them take a look while I stay with Olivia?"

Hades glared at me, annoyed. "I'm a man. What can a small injury like this do to me? Besides, Olivia will probably cry if she doesn't see me when she wakes up."

I clicked my tongue. Olivia was already 20 years old and no longer a child who cried at everything.

She loved clinging to Hades, calling him flirtatiously.

Even when Hades and I were married, she never held back. She would spark fights between us and fuel the tension.

We'd argued over her countless times. Hades always called me petty and narrow-minded for being annoyed by a young woman. He would even accuse me of being dirty-minded for questioning their "uncle and niece" bond.

He claimed he'd raised Olivia since she was seven, and that she was accustomed to relying on him.

Thinking of that, I gave up trying to convince him to get his leg treated.

He looked at me impatiently and snapped, "You've already had your wounds treated, so what are you still doing here? Go home and make some soup for Olivia. She'll be hungry when she wakes up.

"Make her favorite chicken soup. No peppers. Go easy on the salt—she's injured, she needs something light."

I gave him an exasperated look. "Order takeout. I'm injured and exhausted. I'm not going to drag myself home just to cook."

Hades frowned, about to say something, but Olivia stirred awake. She called out weakly, "Hades."

He immediately dragged his injured leg to her bedside and exclaimed, "Olivia, you're finally awake! You nearly scared me to death.

"You've been under my care since you were seven. I raised you into a fine young woman. I don't know what I'd do if something had happened to you today."

Tears welled up in Olivia's eyes. "Don't cry, Hades! I'd never leave you. I swore on my 18th birthday that I'll stay by your side forever. Even if you don't understand my feelings, just know I'll never walk away from you!"

Hades quickly grasped her hand and placed it against his cheek. "I understand! I really do! It's just that in this life…

"Don't worry, Olivia! I will never abandon you, and no one can stop me from taking care of you!"

Then he turned to me sharply and ordered, "Cassandra, go home and make chicken soup for Olivia. Why can't you be more thoughtful and caring like her?"

"Hades!" Olivia called softly.

She reached up and gently covered his mouth with her hand. "How can you speak to Cassandra like that? If she doesn't want to cook, that's fine. I'll go hungry. I don't want either of you fighting because of me."

Hades couldn't bear seeing her look so hurt. His expression darkened as he turned to me and roared, "Cassandra, did you not hear me? If you refuse to cook chicken soup for Olivia, forget about the postponed wedding next week! Think twice! You've dreamed of this wedding for five years!"

I would've caved instantly had he said that to me in my past life. But this time, I looked at him calmly and replied, "Fine. Then let's cancel it."

Olivia continued, "Hades, I've already told your family about my pregnancy. Your grandfather said he'll take back all your shares and freeze your bank cards if you don't come home and live out the rest of your life with me. "Hades, your grandfather's patience has limits. He said if he doesn't see you in two days, you don't need to return at all."You're already disabled. Without your grandfather's support, you're just a piece of trash! Do you really think Cassandra would still want someone like you?"After the call ended, Hades laughed bitterly, his voice trembling. "Cassandra, I'm disabled now. If I become penniless someday… would you still love me?"I smiled softly, meeting his eyes. "Hades, I just don't love you anymore. Your financial status has nothing to do with it. There's no going back for us. You should leave."After a long while, he finally said, "You're right. The Cassandra who used to love me was pure and kind. I was a fool to think she'd love me forever."He gave me

Hades chose that exact moment to show up. He disguised himself as a farmer delivering vegetables to the school and entered the grounds with two baskets. When he saw all the unopened letters tossed into the fire pit, his eyes instantly turned red. "Cassandra, I poured my heart into those letters. How could you burn them all? Do you really care so little about my feelings?"His words made me laugh. "Hades, you and Olivia are already married. Your feelings for me only disgust me. What's there for me to care about?"He tried to retrieve the charred remains of the letters, but burned his hand in the process. Ashamed, he turned to me and roared, "Cassandra, why are you nitpicking over the fact that I'm married?"I've already said I'll divorce her. Didn't you promise to love me forever? If you love me so much, shouldn't you feel honored and happy now that I've come to find you?"I never thought Hades could be so shameless. How could a person sink so low? I didn't want to continue argu

Hades didn't show up again after leaving. Not long after, I saw Olivia post a wedding invitation on her Instagram. Seeing that they were finally married, I sighed in relief. The pain I had carried from my previous life was behind me. In this new one, I was determined to live well. However, one night, I received a call from an unknown number. It was Hades. He was drunk and slurring as he complained, "Cassandra, I just realized you're the only one who truly treated me well! Did you know Olivia and I fought today? She called me a useless, disabled piece of shit. She didn't even stop to consider how I ended up like this."I risked my life to save her and lost my leg in the process. And now, she's mocking me for being a cripple! How could she treat me like that?"Cassandra… you were always so good to me. Even when we argued, you never spoke so harshly. I miss you. I miss the times when we were together…"Suddenly, the line crackled with static, and the phone was snatched away. The

I took two steps back, putting distance between Olivia, Hades, and me."The two of you can talk it out. I won't be joining you," I said. Just as I turned to leave, I heard Olivia sobbing behind me. "Cassandra, why are you leaving when I just got here? Are you doing this on purpose? I know you're still angry at Hades, but you shouldn't have left without saying a word. "Even if you didn't want to marry him, you could have told him beforehand. Now he's been humiliated in front of his friends and family!"I had no interest in her passive-aggressive remarks, so I shot back, "Didn't I leave my wedding dress for you? Since you're so obsessed with Hades, you should just marry him instead."I've already given you such a golden opportunity, so how could you waste it just like that?"Olivia's eyes brimmed with tears as she began to sob. "Cassandra, how can you slander me like that? There's nothing going on between Hades and me. If I'm the reason you won't come back, then I promise to leav

Frowning, I looked at him in annoyance. I still had to return to the dorms to cook dinner. It was my turn that night. "Fine! I was the one who had framed Olivia. Are you happy now? Hades, I work here now. So could you please leave? Also, we are done, so please don't come here ever again!"Hades looked wounded, his eyes brimming with tears. "Are you breaking up with me over a bunch of misunderstandings? I've told you already. Olivia is my niece, nothing more."If she has feelings for me, that's her business. I've never led her on!"Cassandra, I don't agree to a breakup! You can't just claim that we've broken up. I don't accept it! I came here to bring you back for our wedding. We haven't had our redo yet!"Furious, I chuckled and shouted, "Hades, you know how you really feel about Olivia. As for us, we're over!"I turned and walked away, heading back to the dorms. His crippled leg prevented him from catching up.But every day after school, he waited outside my classroom, refusin

Once the plane landed, I had to travel quite a distance before finally arriving at the school where I was volunteering. The surroundings were simple and basic, but the fresh mountain air helped me relax completely. The next day, I stood inside the drafty classroom and smiled gently at the innocent, slightly dirt-smudged faces gazing back at me.I adapted quickly to the environment. I spent my mornings and afternoons teaching students in three different grades, then came home to cook dinner after work. There was no cafeteria in the school, so if I wanted to buy anything, I had to hike down the mountain to a nearby town.Soon, I got to know the other teachers in my dormitory. Most had signed the minimum three-year commitment and were counting the days until they could return to their hometowns.I was the only one who had signed a ten-year contract. In fact, I was beginning to consider staying permanently. In my second week, a newly arrived volunteer resigned and returned to the c
