Amy stared at the rejection email on her laptop and laughed bitterly.

“Unfortunately, we’ve decided to move forward with another candidate.”

Again.

She slammed the laptop shut and dropped back onto her couch with frustration.

The apartment around her was small compared to the Armstrong mansion, but for the first time in her life, something belonged entirely to her.

No servants.

No security guards.

No expectations hanging from the walls.

Just silence.

Amy rubbed her temples tiredly before glancing at the growing pile of applications scattered across her coffee table.

Three business degrees.

Internship experience.

Leadership certifications.

And still…

Nothing.

Or maybe the problem wasn’t her qualifications.

Maybe people saw the name Armstrong and assumed she didn’t need a job.

Or worse…

That she couldn’t survive without her family’s money.

Her phone buzzed suddenly.

Victoria Armstrong.

Amy groaned softly before answering.

“Yes, Mother.”

“You missed dinner again.”

“I’m busy.”

“With what exactly?” Victoria asked sharply. “Pretending to struggle?”

Amy closed her eyes slowly.

Here we go.

“I’m looking for a job.”

“Amy—”

“A real one.”

“You already have a place at Diamond Groups.”

“I want something I earn myself.”

Victoria sighed on the other end.

“You’re behaving emotionally again.”

“And you’re behaving like you’ve never struggled before.”

Silence.

Dangerous silence.

Amy immediately regretted saying it.

But not enough to apologize.

“You’re an Armstrong,” Victoria finally said coldly. “Start acting like one.”

The call ended.

Amy stared at her phone for several seconds before tossing it aside.

Sometimes talking to her mother felt like going to war unarmed.

With a frustrated sigh, she reopened her laptop.

Another list of companies filled the screen.

Her eyes moved lazily until one name made her pause.

ZION GROUPS.

Amy sat upright immediately.

Everyone knew Zion Groups.

Diamond Groups’ biggest rival.

Aggressive.

Innovative.

Dangerously ambitious.

And led by the youngest CEO in the industry.

Zion Petrakis.

Even his name carried arrogance.

Amy clicked the opening.

Executive Assistant to the CEO.

Her brows lifted.

Interesting.

Very interesting.

A slow smile spread across her lips.

“Oh, this would absolutely give my parents a heart attack.”

For the first time in weeks, excitement sparked inside her.

Without wasting another second, Amy updated her résumé and began typing her application.

If she wanted independence…

Why not take it from the one company her family hated most?

“If they won’t see me through my family’s name… then I’ll make them see me without it.”

Her fingers hovered over the trackpad.

She had been avoiding one application all morning.

ZION GROUPS.

Her family’s biggest rival.

Her father would lose his mind if he found out.

Her mother would call it disgraceful.

That alone made her pause.

Then she clicked.

Three days later, Amy stood outside the Zion Groups headquarters.

The building didn’t try to look beautiful.

It looked powerful.

Cold glass.

Black steel.

No softness.

No invitation.

Just authority.

Amy adjusted her blazer and stepped inside.

The lobby was fast-paced, almost aggressive.

People moved like time was against them.

No one wasted a second.

“Miss Armstrong?”

She turned.

A receptionist stood behind a sleek counter.

“Mr. Petrakis will see you now.”

Her heartbeat tightened slightly.

So he didn’t delegate the interview.

Interesting.

She followed the assistant toward the private elevator.

The ride was silent.

Too silent.

Amy stared at her reflection in the metal doors.

Calm.

Controlled.

But inside?

Something unsettled her.

The doors opened directly into the executive floor.

No waiting room.

No buffer.

Just power.

A pair of black doors stood at the end of the hall.

“This is it,” the assistant said.

Amy inhaled once and stepped forward.

The doors opened.

The office was enormous.

Floor-to-ceiling windows flooded the room with light.

Dark furniture.

Minimal design.

Nothing unnecessary.

And at the center of it all stood a man facing the city.

Zion Petrakis.

He didn’t turn immediately.

“I don’t like people who are late,” he said calmly.

Amy frowned. “I’m not late.”

That made him pause.

Then he turned.

And looked at her.

Not quickly.

Not casually.

Slowly.

Like he was measuring something he couldn’t see.

Amy held his gaze.

She refused to look away first.

“Zion Petrakis,” he said finally.

“I know who you are.”

A faint smirk appeared on his lips.

That was the first crack in his control.

“Good,” he replied. “Then we can skip introductions.”

He walked toward his desk, never breaking eye contact.

“So tell me, Amy Armstrong… why are you here?”

Amy straightened her posture.

“Because I want a position based on my ability, not my last name.”

“Or because you’re running from it.”

Her fingers tightened slightly.

“I’m not running.”

Zion tilted his head slightly.

“That sounded emotional.”

“I sounded honest.”

That earned her a quiet pause.

He studied her again.

Longer this time.

Like he was peeling layers she didn’t know she had.

The interview began.

Questions came sharper than expected.

Her qualifications.

Her motivations.

Her family.

Her patience was tested.

So was her confidence.

But Amy didn’t break.

Even when she wanted to.

Even when his questions became personal enough to sting.

She answered anyway.

Controlled.

Precise.

Refusing to give him weakness.

And strangely…

Zion didn’t look bored.

He looked entertained.

By the end of the interview, Amy stood up slowly.

“Is that all?” she asked.

Zion leaned back in his chair.

For a moment, he didn’t answer.

Then—

“You’re either very brave,” he said quietly, “or very reckless.”

Amy met his gaze.

“Maybe both.”

A faint smile crossed his face.

That was the first time she felt it.

Not intimidation.

Interest.

Real interest.

And it unsettled her more than his cold questions ever did.

She left the office without another word.

But she felt his eyes on her long after the door closed.

The words echoed in Amy’s head long after she left the office.I’m pregnant. At first, she thought she heard wrong.Surely she did.Because the moment she stepped into Zion’s office that morning, she hadn’t expected that. She remembered pushing the door open gently, ready to ask Zion if he had reviewed the investor documents she sent earlier. Then she saw her.Victoria.Standing too close to him.Too comfortable.Too familiar.Amy’s steps slowed instantly. The atmosphere already felt wrong before a single word was spoken. Then Victoria smiled. That smile. The kind women wore when they believed they had already won.And then—“I’m pregnant.”Amy froze completely. For a second, the world became soundless. She looked at Victoria first. Then slowly at Zion.Waiting.Hoping.Praying her ears had betrayed her.But Zion looked shocked too.And somehow… that hurt even more.Because if he looked surprised, then it meant this wasn’t planned.Meaning there was a possibility.A real possibility.

  • Black Coffee With No Sugar   Chapter 40: Scandal

The moment Zion’s car pulled into the underground parking lot of Zion Group, he knew things had spiraled completely out of control.Even before stepping out, camera flashes exploded around him.Media personnel swarmed the entrance like hungry vultures the second his security opened the car door.“Mr. Petrakis! Is the pregnancy rumor true?”“Are you having a child with your ex-lover?”“What does your wife think about the situation?”“Is there trouble in your marriage?”“Did Mrs. Petrakis leave because of the affair?”Questions flew aggressively from every direction.Zion’s jaw hardened. His expression remained cold. Controlled. Dangerous. He ignored every single question as he stepped out in a perfectly tailored black suit, moving through the crowd with long, purposeful strides while his security team struggled to hold reporters back.“Sir! Sir! One statement please!”But Zion didn’t stop.Didn’t look back.Didn’t even blink. The atmosphere inside the building wasn’t any better. The mo

  • Black Coffee With No Sugar   Chapter 39: Where Is Amy

Zion had never felt fear like this before. Not during hostile business takeovers. Not during million-dollar negotiations. Not even when Zion Group almost collapsed years ago.But this? This terrified him.For the past six hours, he had called everyone he could think of.Her mother. Her colleagues.Old university friends.Business associates.Even people Amy barely spoke to anymore.Nothing.No one had seen her.No one had heard from her.The realization hit harder every passing minute—Amy had left without her things. Her handbag was still sitting in the office. Her phone, too.Which meant she had no way to contact anyone. And worse? No way for him to reach her.Zion paced his office restlessly, loosening his tie in frustration. His usually neat hair was disheveled from how many times he had dragged his hands through it.“Think, Zion,” he muttered to himself. “Where would she go?”He stopped suddenly. Then cursed under his breath. Her grandmother.Hours earlier...Amy sat quietly by the

Shock. That was the only thing Amy could feel as the words echoed mercilessly in her head.I’m pregnant. The entire office suddenly felt too small. Too hot. Too suffocating.Amy stared at Victoria, then slowly turned toward Zion, searching his face for something—anything. Denial. Confusion. Anger. But Zion himself looked stunned. And somehow, that hurt even more.Amy’s throat tightened painfully. Her fingers curled around her handbag as her breathing became uneven.Victoria smirked, clearly enjoying every second of the silence she had created.“Well?” she said lightly. “Nobody’s going to say congratulations?”Amy couldn’t take it anymore.Without a word, she turned and walked out.“Amy—”Zion immediately moved after her, panic crashing into him the moment he saw tears gathering in her eyes.“Amy, wait!”But she was already moving fast down the hallway toward the elevator. Employees looked up in confusion as she pressed the button repeatedly. The doors slid open.“Amy!” Zion shouted aga

  • Black Coffee With No Sugar   Chapter 37: I’m Pregnant

The sound of running water filled the bathroom while Amy remained curled under the sheets, staring at the ceiling with a foolish smile she refused to acknowledge.A few minutes later, Zion stepped out of the bathroom dressed in black slacks that hung low on his waist, a white towel thrown casually around his neck as he dried his damp hair.Amy looked up from the bed and instantly regretted it.Droplets of water traced down the hard planes of his chest, disappearing beneath the waistband of his trousers. His skin still glistened from the shower, and the fresh scent of soap and cedarwood wrapped around the room.Zion noticed her staring immediately.A slow smirk tugged at his lips.“So,” he said casually while buttoning his wristwatch, “should I start charging you for these private shows?”Amy rolled her eyes dramatically and threw a pillow toward him.“You’re impossible.”“And yet,” he replied smoothly, catching the pillow with one hand, “you keep looking.”Amy groaned and climbed out o

  • Black Coffee With No Sugar   Chapter 36: Kiss Me

The room was quiet except for the rhythmic ticking of the clock and the occasional gust of wind brushing against the windowpane. The night was dimly lit by the soft golden glow of the bedside lamp, casting delicate shadows across the room. The sheets were soft beneath them, a delicate contrast to the storm of emotions pulsing in the air. Zion lay beside her, his fingers brushing gently over her arm, tracing invisible lines up to her shoulder. He leaned in, pressing a soft kiss just below her ear—light, almost reverent. Amy’s breath hitched, her body tensing slightly at the contact before melting into it. "You’re trembling," he whispered against her skin, his voice hoarse with restraint. "Is it me... or the anticipation?" Amy didn’t answer. She didn’t have to. Her eyes said enough—half-lidded, glassy, unsure whether to hold back or fall completely. Zion continued slowly, deliberately. He placed feather-light kisses along the curve of her neck, pausing at the base of her throat. His

The sun was just beginning to peek over the horizon as Amy's mother bustled around the kitchen, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee filling the air. This Morning was a very awkward for Amy, she didn’t know how to start her day since she’d be sharing almost everything with Zion from the bathroom to the closet and they just slept on the same bed.Amy stood at the center of the room shifting her weight from one foot to the other while thinking of wh
