Now that I know that you're guilty and that you purposely recorded us, I don't feel bad for whatever it is I'm going to do. His words hit harder than Noah's. I stare at Enzo through the blur of my tears, my chest tightening so painfully I can barely breathe. He thinks I did it on purpose. He actually believes I recorded them because I wanted something to use against him. "No..." I whisper, shaking my head helplessly. "Enzo, that's not..." The front door suddenly open. There's a pause, and then I hear Aunt Joan's voice. "What on earth is going on?" She appears, two grocery bags hanging from her hands. Her eyes travel across the room... Marcus standing protectively in front of me, Noah glaring at everyone, Enzo beside him, and me... crying so hard I can barely stay upright. The bags slip from her fingers onto the floor. "N-Noah?" Her face hardens almost immediately. "What are you doing here?" Nobody answers. She doesn't wait for one. Her gaze lands on my face again, taking in my swollen eyes and trembling shoulders. "What happened?" she asks. "Why is she crying?" Still nobody speaks. Then Noah does. "This doesn't concern you, Aunt Joan." "The hell it doesn't." She walks further into the foyer, stopping directly beside me. One arm wraps around my shoulders instinctively, pulling me against her side. The warmth almost makes me cry harder. "You need to leave." Noah lets out a laugh. "I'm not leaving without my sister." "I wasn't asking." "I'm taking Nova home." "No." Aunt Joan's voice is calm, but there's steel underneath it. "You're leaving. Right now." "No." Marcus sighs quietly and I shut my eyes. Please... Please don't make this worse. Aunt Joan folds her arms. "You have exactly five seconds to walk out of my house." "I'm not going anywhere." "Four." Noah scoffs. "Three." "You can't stop me." "Two." Noah doesn't move. Aunt Joan pulls her phone out of her handbag. "One." She unlocks it without hesitation. "Fine. I'll call your parents and tell them you're standing in my house refusing to leave after I told you to. I'll also let them know the way you've been speaking to your sister." That finally gets Noah's attention. His jaw clenches. "You wouldn't." "Oh, sweetheart." She smiles, though there's absolutely no warmth in it. "Try me." Noah knows she's not bluffing. He clicks his tongue in annoyance. "This isn't over." He points a finger at me. "You've already destroyed enough. Don't make it worse." He turns toward the door and Enzo does too. Before he leaves, our eyes meet. I'm sure I'm seeing different emotions but I'm not seeing sympathy. He follows Noah out without another word. The front door slams behind them. It starts with ragged breathes, and then the tears start flowing. My knees give the fuck out. "Oh, sweetheart..." Aunt Joan says, rushing forward. The sob that leaves me is ugly. Everything I've been holding together completely falls apart. I bury my face against her shoulder, crying so hard my chest hurts. "I didn't mean to..." I choke out between sobs. "I swear I didn't... I never wanted this..." "I know." She rubs my back slowly. "I know, baby." Marcus kneels beside us, looking absolutely furious. His fists are still clenched. I don't think he's ever looked this angry. Aunt Joan looks over my head at him. "Marcus." He immediately looks up. "How did Noah even know she was here?" Marcus doesn't answer. He just looks up at Kol and Chloe and he points. They suddenly become very interested in the floor. Aunt Joan follows his gaze and his finger. "Tell me you didn't. How did they find out?" She shouts. "I was just driving Chloe to get a dress..." "A dress?" Aunt Joan says in disbelief. "A dress?" Nobody dares answer. She pinches the bridge of her nose before letting out a slow breath. "I told every single one of you that Nova was staying here because she needed peace. Sarah begged me not to let Noah know. And what did you do?" Nobody looks up. "I'm sorry, Mom," Chloe whispers. "No." Aunt Joan shakes her head. "Sorry doesn't fix this." Her hand stretches out. "Phones." Their head snaps up. "What?" "I said... phones. Now." They reluctantly pull their phones from their pockets. Marcus walks around collecting Chloe's phone first and then Kol's. He hands them to his mother. She stacks them together. "You're all grounded." She points toward the staircase. "No phones. No television. No going out with friends. And the both of you will be helping me around this house until I decide you've earned your privileges back." "Mom..." "No." Her voice leaves no room for argument. "You broke my trust." Aunt Joan looks down at me, still clinging to her. Then she gently brushes the hair away from my face. "Come on. Let's get you upstairs."NOVAI barely sleep. And I'm promising and being honest that it's not because of the task. It's not because of the stupid envelope sitting on my desk like some kind of threat. It's because of my Mom. The way she looked when she realized she had been setting out plates for two people who weren't coming home. The way she laughed like she could brush it off, but I saw the hurt behind her eyes. She misses them. She misses Noah and Enzo. And maybe I'm selfish for thinking this, but it hurts knowing that they're not only avoiding me. They're avoiding her too.I understand Noah being angry. I understand Enzo wanting nothing to do with me. I deserve whatever anger they have toward me.But Mom? She didn't do anything. If I find either of them at school today, or cross paths with them, I'm taking my chances and starting a conversation.I don't know how. I don't know if they'll even let me get close enough to explain myself. If they still hate me after hearing the truth and all they're doing to
NOVAMy back hurts so bad. And it's not even because I've been busy helping Mom in the kitchen all evening making Noah's favourite. It's not because I feel so stiff as I make my way to my room.I think it's because I'd been carrying my backpack all day. With the envelope inside of it, I have trust issues. I didn't want anybody to find it first. Since I don't know what's in the envelope, it's safer there.I still can't believe I'm about to be a sorority girl. Well, if I can complete whatever task Bethany and her friends want me to. Hearing Gia and Serenity's tasks, I'm sure mine will be much worse.I don't think I give a fuck either. Whatever it is, I'm sure I can do it. Can't be anything worse than what the school thinks I did. Yes. I'm more optimistic now than this afternoon. "Baby, dinner's ready. Come on downstairs!" Mom's voice rings in my ears just as I grab my backpack. I dig into it, my fingers grasping the envelope, tearing it open just so I can see what's in it before dinner
NOVA I'd be running and blabbing my mouth to my best friend if this had happened the week before. Yeah, I'm not about to make that mistake twice. But this... this is huge. I can't keep this to myself. I have to tell someone. And I can't talk to Ava. I literally ended my friendship with her. After the first two classes, I retreat to the cafeteria and find a table that's secluded. My head is reeling so much. I'm thinking about Bethany's offer. I'd be a bloody liar if I said I wasn't considering it. Becoming a part of the Sigma Omega is like every girl's dream. It wasn't part of mine when I still had a place I belonged to. The media department. But now... it's my only option. Fuck. I'm thinking like one of those half-brained girls I used to dislike before. But do I have any choice here? Joining doesn't even mean people will accept me just yet. So what do I have to lose? The chatter and laughter makes me look up. Few girls have just made their way into the cafeteria. Among the gi
NOVABeing back at school is no fun. Being back at home is no fun either. A part of me wishes I'm still at the valley, with Aunt Joan, Marcus, Kol and Chloe. Even though my cousins were immature and brought trouble to their doorstep, I still feel that I wouldn't feel like an outcast if I had stayed there.Enzo fucking released the statement. It made me look like an evil, jealous person. But I should be happy that it did exempt my brother. Mom keeps saying the damage has already been done. That no matter what Enzo's father does with his lawyers and even a PR team, there's little they can do. The only thing that can make the slate clean again, is if the girl releases a statement. And I would have gone to the end of the world to find the girl in question. But it involves talking to Enzo and he hates me. My brother hates me as well."Just leave it be, baby." Mom glances at me from the driver's seat.I fold my arms. "It's not that easy mom. I made the mess. I should be the one to clean i

NOVA Enzo’s more family than Nova will ever be. A suffocating silence fills the foyer. I feel the blood drain from my face entirely, leaving me numb from head to toe. I’ve spent my whole life trying to fit into Noah’s shadow, trying to be the supportive sister, trying to navigate his moods and his career. But hearing him say those words.. so casually, so easily... in front of our cousins. It breaks something inside of me. Completely. "Noah, are you fucking kidding me?" Marcus steps in front of me, his chest rising and falling rapidly. He looks ready to throw a punch. "She is your sister. Your blood. You don’t get to come into my house and say shit like that to her." "Marcus, don't," I choke out, my voice barely a whisper. I reach out, my fingers brushing the sleeve of Marcus’s shirt to pull him back. I can't let him get into a physical fight because of me. But Noah doesn't even look at Marcus. His eyes are locked on me, I can see the deep resentment. He really believes I di
