Chapter 6

Autor: Yay Latte
[Holy crap, holy crap! Where did Clara get that evidence?! In the original plot, she never knew about the surgery sabotage!]

[The storyline is completely broken! Gone!]

[Why is this so satisfying though?! Mrs. Brock's face turned completely ghost-white!]

[Wait, how did she figure it out? The timeline is all wrong! She's only six weeks pregnant, and in the book, she died without ever finding out Julian was sterile!]

I watched the text drift past, lifted my cup, and took a quick, calm sip.

I was settled into a guest suite at the Brock Estate.

The room was classically designed with polished mahogany furniture, an embroidered silk screen, and subtle antique porcelain on display.

Arthur had the staff bring over clothes and toiletries. His tone was polite, yet distinctly distant.

"If you need anything at all, Ms. Reed, just ring the bell."

He bowed slightly and quietly closed the door.

I sat by the window seat, watching the sunlight play over the courtyard pool.

The evening sun coated the water in gold as a few red-and-white fish swam lazily beneath the surface.

My phone vibrated in my hand.

A message from Marcus.

[Something is off with Dr. Meyers. He just initiated fast-track immigration paperwork for New Zealand.]

I typed back instantly.

[Got it. Keep tabs on him and notify me the second anything changes.]

At eight in the evening, Arthur knocked on the door to invite me down for dinner.

Victoria was sitting alone at the long dining table.

A simple, four-course home-style meal was laid out in front of her.

"Have a seat," Victoria said, gesturing to the place opposite her. "I wasn't sure what you liked, so I had the kitchen keep it simple."

"Thank you, Mrs. Brock."

I sat down and quietly began eating.

Victoria didn't speak either, and the only sound in the room was the subtle clinking of silverware against porcelain.

Halfway through the meal, Victoria broke the silence.

"How old are you, Clara?"

"Twenty-five."

"And you spent three years with Julian?"

"Yes."

"Do you have a family?"

"My parents passed away," I said quietly. "I have an uncle, but we haven't spoken in years."

Victoria nodded, dropping the topic.

When she finished her meal, she set her fork down and wiped her lips with a cloth napkin.

"I will take care of Julian. You stay here and rest. Tell Arthur if you need anything. I'm having our family doctor come tomorrow morning to give you a full checkup."

"Thank you, Mrs. Brock."

"Don't thank me," Victoria said, her eyes darkening with a complex expression. "I am not doing this for you. I am doing this for the Brock bloodline."

"I understand."

She stood up to leave, but paused right at the dining room doorway.

"Clara."

It was the first time she had used my full name.

"If everything you said is true, you are a savior to this family. But if I find out you lied to me..."

She left the thread hanging, but the threat was crystal clear.

"I wouldn't lie to you," I replied.

Victoria gave me one last long, piercing look before turning on her heel.

I didn't sleep well that night.

The bed was soft and wrapped in fine silk that smelled like sunshine, but my mind was restless.

Dreams flickered through my head.

Julian’s icy stare, Vivienne's sweet, deceptive smile, the pale blue clinic doors, and the endless floating chat text.

I woke up early the next morning.

After a quick wash, I went downstairs. Arthur mentioned that Mrs. Brock was taking a walk in the garden.

I walked out to the courtyard and found Victoria standing by the pond, idly scattering fish food from a small container.

"Good morning, Mrs. Brock."

I walked over to her.

"Good morning," she replied without looking back. "Did you sleep well?"

"Well enough.”

"She also wanted me... to find a way to poison you, Mrs. Brock," Mr. Miller whimpered. "She said if you were out of the picture, no one could stop her."[Unbelievable! His brows pulled into a hard scowl."Mother, what's going on?"Victoria swept Mr. Miller’s recorded confession, the security footage, and the marriage documents straight across the desk, landing right in front of him."See for yourself."

The faint scent was barely noticeable, buried beneath the heavy aroma of herbs.I set the porcelain bowl down smoothly and looked at the maid."Martha, what was added to this?"Martha was an older woman from a small town. She was honest, quiet, and sharp. She leaned in, took a sniff, and her face went completely pale."Ms. Clara, that smell... that's safflower extract! Where I grew up, everyone knows a pregnant woman can't touch that. It'll cause a miscarriage!"Safflower! My heart dropped into my stomach.[Holy crap! Someone is trying to poison Clara? Victoria is going to rip them to shreds when she finds out!][Who is stupid enough to try something like that inside the Brock home?]I pushed back the surge of fury and kept my voice hushed."Martha, keep this between us. Pour it out quietly. Don't let anyone notice.""Yes, Ms. Clara. Right away."Martha nodded frantically and hurried off with the tray.I left the estate immediately and bought a tiny, high-definition pinh

Vivienne's face went bright white. She shook her head frantically."I didn't mean that... Clara, please don't misunderstand. Whether it's a misunderstanding or not, science will tell."I turned to Victoria Brock, my voice completely relaxed."Mrs. Brock, since Ms. Cross has doubts about the bloodline, why not order a DNA test right now? Let's settle it officially and shut everyone up for good."A flicker of approval danced in Victoria’s eyes. She nodded instantly."Done. Arthur, contact the lab immediately. Have them bring the rapid testing kit."Vivienne lost it. Her knees gave out, and she stumbled backward, her face as pale as a bedsheet."No need, Mrs. Brock! I trust Clara! I was just thinking out loud...""Thinking out loud?"I raised an eyebrow, stepping closer."Ms. Cross, the Brock family bloodline is a serious matter. How could anyone just 'think out loud' like that? “We are doing this test today so you can finally rest your mind and stop spreading baseless rumors.

[This is so good! What an incredible turn of events!][Honestly, the main guy is completely useless now. Dropped!][Transformed from a melodrama straight into a high-stakes power play!]I walked over, set my ultrasound results right in front of him, and kept my voice crisp."Do you believe me now, Mr. Brock?"Julian lifted his head slowly. The look in his eyes was absolute disorientation. His lips parted, but not a single sound came out.Victoria Brock stepped forward. She picked up both medical files, scanned them, and showed zero surprise."Excellent," she said softly. “Now that the facts are clear, we settle this."She turned to me, her tone noticeably warmer."Clara, focus on resting and taking care of yourself. In three days, the Brock family will host a dinner. “We will announce your engagement to Julian, and let the elders know the bloodline continues."I gave a polite nod. "I leave it in your capable hands, Mrs. Brock."Vivienne swayed on her feet, nearly collapsi

Julian’s face was drained of all color the second those words left my mouth. His grip on Vivienne’s hand tightened so hard his knuckles turned stark white. Wild rage, sheer panic, and a creeping dread he couldn't hide surged across his eyes.Leaning against his side, Vivienne went pale too.Julian’s chest heaved as he spat back, his voice trembling with fury."Clara, what the hell are you talking about! How dare you slander me like this? Just because I refuse to acknowledge your kids, you invent a sick lie to destroy me?"I folded my arms, completely unbothered by his outburst. It tastes great!][Who knew a broken storyline could be this interesting?]I watched him completely unravel, a light smile playing on my lips."Whether I'm lying or not, go check for yourself.
