Nick

“Sir, what are you doing here?”

That voice yanked me out of my thoughts like a slap. I turned sharply, my chest tightening when I saw who it was, Mr. Hayden, the man currently running the company while I finished college.

He looked surprised, maybe even a little worried, to see me standing in the middle of the lobby like I’d just seen a ghost.

“I came for something else. Don’t mind me,” I muttered, brushing him off quickly. I turned around, but she was gone.

The spot where Lyra had been cleaning seconds ago was empty. My stomach dropped.

“Ben…” My voice came out sharper than I intended. “Where the hell did she go?”

Ben froze beside me. His usual confidence vanished. “I… she… she was here just now,” he stammered, eyes darting around nervously. “I swear, Alpha, she was right here.”

“Then find her!” I barked. My voice echoed across the marble floor, and a few employees glanced our way before quickly looking down again.

Ben didn’t waste a second, he ran off, shouting her name down th

Lyra“Caught you! Now you can’t run away from me.”Nick’s voice sliced through the air behind me. The moment I heard it, my entire body locked up like someone had pressed pause on me. My leg literally froze mid-step. I couldn’t move, not even an inch.Panic exploded through my chest.Shit. What am I going to do? What am I going to do?!I needed to leave immediately. I forced my leg forward, one shaky step, trying to keep going, pretending I didn’t hear him.“STOP RIGHT THERE!”His voice thundered again, louder this time, sharp enough that people in the hospital corridor jerked around to look at him. Then he added, loud enough to echo off the walls:“If you move an inch, I’m going to kiss you!”My head snapped around so fast I could’ve sworn something cracked in my neck.Every single person around us went silent. And I, like an idiot, just turned.I don’t even know why. Reflex? Madness? Curiosity? Stupidity?Probably all of the above.“Oh my God,” I whispered under my breath. “This gu

LyraMy chest burned. Not the sharp, stabbing kind of pain, this was worse. This was panic, desperation, fear, all tangled together and squeezing my lungs until every breath felt too small. I clutched my hands against my chest as I bent forward slightly, gasping, my shoulders shaking as I tried to steady myself.I had been running.Running without looking back. Now I was pressed against the cold white wall of a hospital corridor, hidden just enough behind the corner, my bare feet stinging against the icy tiles. The fluorescent lights above hummed softly, mocking how calm everything looked compared to the storm ripping through me.Oh, thank God.He didn’t catch me.A shaky breath slipped out of me, half a laugh, half a sob. My head fell back against the wall, eyes squeezing shut as my heart slammed wildly against my ribs.I did it....I actually did it.He’s so dumb. The thought came unfiltered, bitter and sharp, and for a brief second, it made me smile. A crooked, exhausted smile that

NickBen’s voice reached me before I even saw him.“Alpha… what exactly are you planning to do with her now that she’s here?”I was seated by the window, one leg crossed over the other, a glass of wine balanced loosely in my fingers. The city lights outside glowed softly, indifferent to everything happening inside these walls. I took a slow sip, letting the taste settle, letting the moment breathe.A smile curved on my lips before I answered.“What do you think I’m going to do with her?”I finally looked up.Ben stood a few steps inside the room, arms folded tightly across his chest. His jaw was tense, his eyes cautious, like he was standing in front of a bomb that could go off any second.“I don’t know, Alpha,” he said carefully. “But this… this isn’t right. This is kidnapping.”I chuckled under my breath, amused more than offended.“Kidnapping,” I repeated lazily, swirling the wine. “You make it sound so ugly.”“It is ugly,” Ben insisted. “What if she—”“Ben,” I cut in sharply, sett

Lyra“What are you doing? Let go of me!”My voice tore out of my throat, sharp and wild, echoing off the walls as if the room itself was startled by my panic. Hands clamped around my arms, firm, unyielding. I twisted, kicked, clawed at the air, anything to get free.“Nick, let me go….please!” My plea cracked halfway through. I hated how desperate it sounded, how weak it made me feel. “Let go of me!”They didn’t.The men holding me were built like walls, their grips tightened every time I struggled, like my resistance was only convincing them to hold harder.“Nick” I screamed, my head snapping in his direction. “What the hell are you doing? I said let go of me!”My heart was slamming so hard against my ribs it hurt. Every breath felt jagged, uneven, like my lungs had forgotten how to work properly.“You shouldn’t force me to stay here,” I shouted, my voice hoarse now. “I don’t want to stay here! You don’t get to decide that!”Nick stepped closer. His eyes never left mine, dark and rest

Nick“Lyra, please—no. Don’t do this to me.”The words rushed out of my mouth raw and unplanned, like I was afraid silence would seal her decision if I paused even for a second. She stood a few steps away from me, her resignation letter still between us like a thin white blade. Her shoulders were stiff, her chin lifted in that stubborn way I remembered too well. The way she looked when she had already decided something and nothing in the world could bend her back.“You just came back into my life,” I went on, my voice lowering, rougher. “You don’t get to walk out again. I can’t let you leave me."Her lips parted slightly, then pressed together. She let out a breath that sounded tired.“Nick,” she said quietly, rubbing her forehead with her fingers as if she had a headache that never went away. “I really can’t do this. Seriously, I can’t.”She finally looked at me then, and the look in her eyes almost undid me. It wasn’t anger. It wasn’t hatred. It was exhaustion. The kind that comes f

Nick“Are you crazy? Rixa…what are you doing? Drop that gun, now!.”My voice tore out of me louder than I expected, sharp enough to slice through the thick tension hanging in the room. But Rixa didn’t even flinch. Her hands shook, yes, but her grip on the pistol was tight and the wildness in her eyes made everything inside me clench.“I’m not going to drop the gun,” she fired back, breathing hard. “You think you can just toss me? You brought me here only to bring her here. And now you’re trying to toss me aside like I’m some kind of what? Some stray? Some spare part?” Her voice cracked, but her aim didn’t. “Do you really think I would let that happen? It’s not going to work. It’s either you choose me, or I shoot her.”Her words hit the room like stones. And the gun… God, the gun was pointed straight at Lyra.Lyra froze beside me, her breath catching, her fingers curling into her palms. Her eyes flicked from Rixa to me fear swirling in her eyes.I stepped in front of her instantly.“Go
