Chapter 3

Author: Golden Buddha
Fortunately, none of them were actually speeding, and they had all put on their seatbelts. None of them was injured.

Still, Rena panicked and quickly got out to check if the other driver was okay after the crash.

The Porsche's door opened, and a young man with dyed hair stepped out. He ignored Rena and ran around to open the other side.

At that moment, four or five more cars screeched to a stop. A dozen more thuggish-looking men got out, surrounding Rena's Beetle.

Rena was startled.

Then, a young man coming out of the other side of the Porsche frowned at her. "It's you!"

Even after she was married to a mentally challenged husband, that didn't stop her from attracting admirers. Rena was the most beautiful woman in Surfington. The man before her was one such admirer.

Terry Lopez.

Heir to the Lopez family, also a notorious playboy.

"It's me," Rena replied.

Terry smirked. "Oh, Rena. You tossed the gold roses I sent you from Springtopia into the trash, then gave the luxury purse worth thousands to a beggar. Why are you crashing into my car today? Oh… Are you changing your mind?"

A flash of disgust appeared in Rena's eyes. "It was an accident. I'll pay for whatever the repair costs."

"You? Pay? Can you even afford it?" Terry sneered. "This is a top-of-the-line Porsche 718. It cost me almost three hundred thousand after all the work. Can you afford to pay? Besides, this car helped me win over dozens of ladies. It's a symbol of my youth. It's not something that can be fixed with dollar signs."

Rena's face turned cold. "So what do you want?"

"It's simple. Be mine and I'll forget the whole thing. I'll even give you a limited-edition Porsche."

"That's not a choice. I'm calling the police." Rena pulled out her phone, but Terry snatched it away.

"I've already booked a room. Once we've slept together, you can still call the police all you want. Just say you couldn't pay for my car, so you used your body instead. No one would doubt it, and your family wouldn't dare make a fuss," Terry chuckled.

With a wave of his hand, his men approached Rena, their intentions bare.

"Stay back…" Rena panicked, feeling helpless.

Miles shook his head and stepped forward, pulling Rena behind him.

Terry sneered. "What? You think some mentally ill idiot like you can play hero? What a joke…"

But then, something astounding happened.

One by one, the thugs collapsed to the ground as they wailed and cried. In the blink of an eye, Miles had taken down more than a dozen men. Rena didn't even manage to see how he moved.

These were all experienced gangsters, yet they were all helpless.

Miles made a crooked smile. After three years of training in the World of Illusion that his awareness was trapped in, dealing with a few street thugs was nothing. In fact, he felt like he was using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

"This is…" Rena was completely stunned as she watched.

She had never dreamed her mentally ill husband would ever protect her like this.

Terry's sneer froze on his face as its color drained. He had seduced countless women, but Rena had always rejected him. That frustration had made him lose all patience, which was why he had carefully planned this ambush.

Everything had been going perfectly, and he thought he could finally have her.

He never thought he was going to be the one terrified out of his mind.

Everyone in Surfington pitied Rena for marrying a mentally ill patient. Who could've guessed that he would be so skilled in martial arts?

When Terry saw Miles looking his way, he trembled and stepped back. "Don't come any closer! What do you want?"

Miles raised his fist. "You tried to harass my wife right in front of me. Why don't you make a guess?"

Terry gulped nervously. "Don't do anything stupid! She hit my car. She should pay up…"

Rena snapped back to her senses and quickly grabbed Miles's arm. "Don't! It's true that I hit his car. I should pay for the damage."

She wasn't a great driver, but she knew the traffic rules well enough. She was driving and making a turn while on a call. She knew she was at fault.

Miles shook his head. "You're still too naive. Turn on your phone and start recording."

"Record what?" Rena didn't know what he meant, but she followed his instructions and started the recording using her phone.

Miles grabbed the young man with dyed hair, who was driving the Porsche, and lifted him right off the ground. "Tell me the truth. Why did you hit my wife's car?"

"I…"

The young man had always been Terry's most loyal follower, so of course he wasn't about to spill the beans.

But when he met Miles's gaze and saw a strange flash in his eyes, his expression suddenly went blank.

"It was my boss Terry who told me to do it. He had people watching at the intersection. I waited here so as soon as Ms. Thompson's car turned the corner, I could crash into her on purpose…"

He didn't say much, but he laid everything out clearly.

This was no accident. It was a carefully planned setup.

Rena heard everything as she stood on the side, and she immediately understood what had happened. Her anger flared. "Terry Lopez! How can you be so shameless?!"

"I…" Terry was stunned.

Everything had spiraled out of control, and he never imagined his most loyal underling would sell him out so easily.

Miles kicked the young man aside and walked up to Terry.

"You…" Terry tried to threaten his way through, but Miles already started slapping him across the face before he could get a word out.

Miles didn't even let Terry finish a sentence as he slapped him repeatedly.

"That's enough, stop!" Rena quickly pulled Miles back despite her anger.

She still had some reason left in her. Terry was part of the Lopez family after all, and they couldn't afford to cross them.

Terry was left with a bruised and swollen face, but Rena's intervention gave him a little courage, and he started yelling.

"How dare you lay a finger on me, you mentally incompetent fool?! Wait till my family hears about this!"

"You already said I'm a mentally incompetent fool. Why would I care if you're from the Lopez or some other family?" Miles grabbed Terry by the collar and landed two more slaps on his face, grinning all the way. "Being mentally incompetent can make me get away with anything, even murder. What do you think would happen if I killed you right now?"

"I…"

The fierceness in Miles's eyes made all of Terry's boldness vanish.

Everyone in Surfington knew the Thompson family's son-in-law was mentally ill. If Miles really killed him, Terry was certain that he would probably get away with it.

He gave up instantly.

"Let's talk about this… Don't do anything crazy… I'll do whatever you want."

"That's better. Don't push it, or I really might just kill you," Miles said. "You set my wife up and crashed into her car. Don't you think you should pay up?"

Terry nodded frantically. "Yes, of course! I'll pay! I'll get your car fixed right away. I'll cover all the repairs!"

Miles slapped him again. "You think fixing the car is enough? It's a little too early for sweet dreams, don't you think?"

"I'll pay for a brand new one! It's a Beetle, right? I'll transfer thirty thousand dollars right now!"

Terry was practically in tears, desperate to get away from this lunatic. He could think about revenge later. He needed to survive this first.

"You think thirty thousand is enough?" Miles slapped him two more times, splitting his lip to the point of bleeding.

Terry was getting dazed. He had already offered the price of a new car… What more could Miles want? "Please, stop! Just tell me how much you want!"

Miles stared at him.

"This isn't just any Beetle. It's the symbol of our love. Without it, my wife and I would never have gotten together. It's our matchmaker. Now, you've wrecked the proof of our love and our matchmaker. You should pay at least a hundred thousand!"

Zack's paternal grandfather and maternal grandfather were both retired high-ranking officials. They were lifelong connoisseurs of the finest wine and tea. Venus and the others were also bluebloods who had grown up around luxury. To them, Miles was a nobody. He was just an orphan; they assumed he had never even tasted tea of this quality, let alone had the right to comment on it.Zack didn't bother to hide his sarcasm. He was waiting for Miles to embarrass himself.Rena frowned, feeling increasingly awkward. She couldn't understand why Miles insisted on contradicting everyone. Not knowing about tea wasn't shameful, since she herself didn't know much either. However, showing off just for attention made her feel embarrassed.Miles sighed. The truth was that tea culture was nothing new to him. His father had loved tea, and he had grown up drinking good tea, too. Later in university, he had the opportunity to read the Manual of Tea and other literary works, so he fully understood wh

"What a weird name," Venus muttered.Zack smiled and started to explain. "The Blue Zephyr is a famous tea variety that goes all the way back to the Capetian Dynasty in the 12th century. The process included being steamed and pressed. It was celebrated as the two best teas together with the White Resin. Kings and ministers of ages past all praised the Blue Zephyr as great tea.""You know so much about culture, Zack! Not like us, we don't know anything about this at all…" Venus said, giving Zack exactly the praise he wanted as he beamed. He proclaimed himself as one from a scholarly family, after all."Music, chess, penmanship, painting, poetry, wine appreciation, horticulture, and tea culture… Those were the eight refined arts the cultivated should master. I'm into the classics, just like Rena," Zack said.Rena shook her head. "Venus just got me interested. I'm just curious, so I don't know much yet."While they chatted, Miles just sat there quietly, not saying a word.Suddenl

Miles hesitated for a moment. He knew Condor's intentions were good. The man had just spent two hundred thousand dollars to protect him, after all. Not wanting to seem ungrateful, Miles quietly followed Rena out the door.Downstairs, Venus was already waiting in front of a sleek black car. When she saw Miles, she shot Rena a questioning look.Rena's face was expressionless. "This is my friend, Venus Jackson. You two should get to know each other.""Did he really get better?" Venus clearly knew about Miles's situation.Rena nodded.Venus smiled, still unimpressed. Even if Miles was cured, he was just a penniless orphan. He didn't look that good, either. How could he deserve someone like Rena?"Hello," Miles said calmly, reaching out his hand.Venus ignored him and went straight for the driver's seat. "Get in. Zack and the others are already waiting for us.""Zack's there?" Rena hesitated at the name.Venus grinned. "It's just tea, don't overthink it."Not wanting to ruin her best frie

"My crew stirred up some trouble at the hospital today. I've already dealt with them," Samuel said, stepping back respectfully. "No one will bother you ever again. These gifts are a small gesture of my apology, and I'm now asking for your forgiveness."With the gifts stacked at the door, Condor finally believed Samuel was truly there to apologize."That's enough, apology accepted. You can go now," Miles called out from behind the crowd.Samuel nodded quickly and led his men away, disappearing as quickly as they had arrived. As soon as they were gone, Helen turned pale and let out a shaky breath. "That was terrifying! That man's aura is so frightening!"Condor just stared at the mountain of gifts. "We shouldn't accept all this from him. We need to return them!""They should pay for scaring my wife!" Miles said, dragging the boxes inside without waiting for permission.Helen snapped, "Pay what? Your dad has already paid two hundred thousand dollars to your Uncle Herman to find so

Milo froze the moment he saw Samuel. Could the casino manager really be so influential as to bring Samuel Howard here in person?"Mr. Howard's here himself! You're dead meat now!" Milo hissed at Miles as he clenched his teeth, but all Miles could give him was a sympathetic look.To everyone's surprise, Miles calmly stepped out from the corner and called out to Samuel. And then… the infamous Mr. Howard, who was untouchable in Milo's eyes, instantly broke into a smile and jogged over, reaching out to shake Miles's hand."I was a blind man before this, Mr. Clark. I came here myself to make things right and apologize!" As soon as he got close, Samuel gripped Miles's hand tightly. "Every word you said has come true. You are truly a remarkable man!"Milo's jaw dropped. Not only was Samuel not here to back him up, but the man was also practically kissing Miles' feet!Miles chuckled before pointing at Milo and his crew. "That's a way to apologize." Samuel froze for a second. "But… I d

"If he's the district chief, then I'm the deputy of the Department of Public Safety!" Milo sneered. "Who hasn't lied before?"Normally, if someone dropped the word chief, Milo might have gotten nervous. But this time, Terry had promised him that he could keep the entire one hundred thousand if he managed to get them back.Milo owed the casino more than eighty grand. If he couldn't pay up, he was as good as dead. That was why he didn't care if Herman was really a chief or not."Seriously... If you don't pay up, I'll stick this into every one of you right here tonight!" Milo snarled as he flashed a knife. The whole crew he brought along were all desperate gamblers. They had all given up on being afraid, not to mention they didn't know just how influential a deputy chief was supposed to be.To show he meant business, Milo slapped Herman several more times.Miles watched lazily as his uncle got beaten up. He found this entire situation quite funny. Did this count as Herman doing him
