Chapter 5

Author: Golden Buddha
Ben hurried forward, pointing at Miles and shouting, "Director! Call the police! He nearly killed me! He even extorted a hundred thousand dollars from Mr. Terry Lopez!"

Daniel's mouth twitched when he saw the state Ben was in.

Michael sized up Miles, paying no attention to who Miles had hit or what he had done. All he cared about was whether his daughter could still be saved.

Miles stood there, calm and composed despite being completely surrounded.

Michael then asked, "Were you the one who discovered my daughter was still alive in the morgue?"

"No. To be more precise, I found out your daughter could still be saved, and I saved her," Miles replied with his chain raised.

"That's nonsense! You're just a mentally ill patient. Have you ever been to a medical school? Do you have a license?" Daniel snapped at Miles.

"No, but I'm the one who saved her. You went to med school and have a license. Go and save her already, then. What are you still doing out here?" Miles chuckled.

It was clear to Miles why they were here.

Daniel had a bad feeling about all of this.

Michael narrowed his eyes. "Go save my daughter now. If you prove yourself, I won't pursue you for any of the other things you did earlier!"

Miles raised an eyebrow, looking annoyed. "Nope. Not in the mood. If it wasn't for me, your daughter would have died half an hour ago already. You're in no position to talk to me like that!"

Michael clenched his fists. Nobody dared to ever talk to him this way, thanks to the status he had earned after a lifetime.

However, his anger left him as quickly as it came. His daughter's life was hanging by a thread, and he was willing to bet anything to save her.

"What will it take for you to treat my daughter? Name your price. I'll agree to anything as long as you can save her!"

Miles nodded. "Now that's how you ask for help."

He glanced coldly at Daniel and Ben before saying, "I want my wife's name cleared and the person who's behind all of this to own up!"

Rena felt a storm of emotions inside her. For one, she was moved that Miles was still thinking of her at a time like this. At the same time, she was also anxious about it all.

If even the legendary Ivan couldn't save Jenny, what chance did Miles have?

Ben was in shock. He had assumed Michael would come here and give Miles a beatdown, but the man was politely asking Miles to save his daughter instead. He glanced at Daniel, whose face had turned white as a sheet.

Suddenly, Ben felt a chill.

Michael, sharp as ever, immediately turned on Daniel. "Dr. Smith, if you don't tell me the truth now, I'll bring this up to the state's Medical Board for investigation!"

A cold sweat broke out on Daniel's forehead. He was in charge of the hospital, true. But if the Medical Board was brought in, then he had nowhere to hide.

After a moment's hesitation, Daniel spilled the beans but still quickly added, "But your daughter really had no pulse or heartbeat this morning…"

Michael waved him off. "We'll settle this later. Who do you owe an apology to now?"

"I… I'm sorry! I made a wrong decision in my panic!" Daniel turned at once and apologized to Miles.

Miles just raised his eyebrows. "Huh?"

Daniel immediately turned to Rena and began apologizing. Ben hurried to apologize in terror to Rena as well.

Rena said nothing.

Both men looked at Miles, hoping he would forgive them.

Miles gave a cold, mocking smile. "If an apology could fix anything, what's the point of having the cops and the court? Isn't that right, Mr. Scott?"

Michael immediately nodded. "I promise you that I'll deal with these two for violating the rules. Please, just save my daughter!"

Miles nodded.

Rena grew even more uneasy. The man standing here was so different… She didn't know whether to worry or to trust him. She shook her head slightly and reached for his arm.

Miles cracked a smile and gently squeezed her hand, whispering, "Don't worry. I know what I'm doing."

Rena's heart skipped a beat as he felt the warmth of his hand. She swallowed whatever she was going to say.

Miles followed Michael back to the hospital and into the emergency room. Daniel and Ben trailed behind, their faces bleak.

"What now?" Ben whispered, still shaken.

Daniel spat. "Bah! What? You really think a mentally challenged quack can treat someone?"

"Right. If he can't save Ms. Scott, things will get even worse for them." Ben nodded.

The two hurried after the group and headed for the emergency room.

As soon as Miles walked inside, he placed his hands on Jenny's chest and calmly said, "Bring me a pack of needles."

A flicker of annoyance flashed across Michael's face. If this failed, he would have Miles's hands!

The other doctors looked on in disbelief. A mentally ill patient performing needle therapy? They had to be joking! Even a comedy couldn't come up with something like this.

Ivan mumbled, "Needle therapy for Cataleptic Trance? Interesting…"

Miles grinned. "Cataleptic Trance? Not exactly right. This is a case of Stygian Catatonia."

"Stygian Catatonia?"

Before anyone could say more, a nurse handed Miles a pack of needles. Without further explanation, Miles quickly inserted the needles into key points on Jenny's scalp, including the Center Gate, the Four Seraphic Points, and the Upper Star, all the while using his life energy to guide her fragmented soul back into her body.

The moment he withdrew the last needle, Jenny's heartbeat stabilized and her breathing evened out.

"There's hope!"

"She's breathing!"

"She's stable!"

A few moments later, Jenny slowly opened her eyes, looking around in confusion as tears rolled down her face.

All the doctors stared at Miles, completely stunned.

Ivan scratched his head, unable to believe what had just happened. Just a few simple needles, and Miles had really brought Jenny back?

Michael's eyes filled with tears, but he quickly wiped them away as he tried to regain his composure.

Rena looked at Miles, shocked. The calm look on his face made her wonder if she even recognized him anymore. Was he still the same mentally ill man she knew from before?

"Her life is saved, but her liver is still overburdened, and her stomach is out of balance. Her blood flow is also quite stagnant. That's why her depression is so severe. She'll need a lot of care," Miles explained.

Ivan nodded. "In holistic medicine, depression is called stagnation syndrome. Either way, it's still very complicated to treat!"

Michael then asked, "Doctor, do you have any suggestions?"

"There is," Miles said, raising a brow, "but it's troublesome."

To someone like Michael, titles and diplomas meant nothing. Results were the only thing that mattered to him. Not to mention, he had met plenty of talented medical practitioners without a medical license. Miles had earned his trust using his skills.

As soon as Miles said there was a solution, Michael didn't hesitate at all and placed his trust in him. "Name your price!"

"Two needle therapy sessions plus a medical concoction a week. Depression takes time to treat, and it can't be rushed," Miles said.

"Good! Once Jenny is discharged from the hospital, I'll have someone pick you up every week," Michael said quickly, afraid that Miles would back out.

Just as Miles was about to agree, Rena pinched him hard at the waist.

They had gotten lucky this time, but treating severe depression was another matter. Many wealthy and powerful people couldn't beat it…

Miles could only mutter with a smile, "We'll talk about it later."

Michael thought Miles was holding out because he hadn't fulfilled his part of the promise yet and ordered his bodyguards, "Take Daniel Smith and Ben Lewis to the authorities. Tell them Michael Scott is reporting their crimes himself!"

Outside, Daniel and Ben collapsed to the floor.

Ivan cleared his throat and said with a smile, "If there's a chance, I would like to discuss medical cases with you sometimes."

"Happy to exchange ideas!" Miles replied.

Ivan nodded, liking Miles even more as he responded with humility. When he was Miles's age, he couldn't have reacted the same way he did.

Rena couldn't take it anymore. Exchange ideas with Ivan? Ivan was a living legend! Miles was just quoting from a few odd books… He was digging his own grave!

She quickly grabbed Miles and dragged him out the door.

Zack's paternal grandfather and maternal grandfather were both retired high-ranking officials. They were lifelong connoisseurs of the finest wine and tea. Venus and the others were also bluebloods who had grown up around luxury. To them, Miles was a nobody. He was just an orphan; they assumed he had never even tasted tea of this quality, let alone had the right to comment on it.Zack didn't bother to hide his sarcasm. He was waiting for Miles to embarrass himself.Rena frowned, feeling increasingly awkward. She couldn't understand why Miles insisted on contradicting everyone. Not knowing about tea wasn't shameful, since she herself didn't know much either. However, showing off just for attention made her feel embarrassed.Miles sighed. The truth was that tea culture was nothing new to him. His father had loved tea, and he had grown up drinking good tea, too. Later in university, he had the opportunity to read the Manual of Tea and other literary works, so he fully understood wh

"What a weird name," Venus muttered.Zack smiled and started to explain. "The Blue Zephyr is a famous tea variety that goes all the way back to the Capetian Dynasty in the 12th century. The process included being steamed and pressed. It was celebrated as the two best teas together with the White Resin. Kings and ministers of ages past all praised the Blue Zephyr as great tea.""You know so much about culture, Zack! Not like us, we don't know anything about this at all…" Venus said, giving Zack exactly the praise he wanted as he beamed. He proclaimed himself as one from a scholarly family, after all."Music, chess, penmanship, painting, poetry, wine appreciation, horticulture, and tea culture… Those were the eight refined arts the cultivated should master. I'm into the classics, just like Rena," Zack said.Rena shook her head. "Venus just got me interested. I'm just curious, so I don't know much yet."While they chatted, Miles just sat there quietly, not saying a word.Suddenl

Miles hesitated for a moment. He knew Condor's intentions were good. The man had just spent two hundred thousand dollars to protect him, after all. Not wanting to seem ungrateful, Miles quietly followed Rena out the door.Downstairs, Venus was already waiting in front of a sleek black car. When she saw Miles, she shot Rena a questioning look.Rena's face was expressionless. "This is my friend, Venus Jackson. You two should get to know each other.""Did he really get better?" Venus clearly knew about Miles's situation.Rena nodded.Venus smiled, still unimpressed. Even if Miles was cured, he was just a penniless orphan. He didn't look that good, either. How could he deserve someone like Rena?"Hello," Miles said calmly, reaching out his hand.Venus ignored him and went straight for the driver's seat. "Get in. Zack and the others are already waiting for us.""Zack's there?" Rena hesitated at the name.Venus grinned. "It's just tea, don't overthink it."Not wanting to ruin her best frie

"My crew stirred up some trouble at the hospital today. I've already dealt with them," Samuel said, stepping back respectfully. "No one will bother you ever again. These gifts are a small gesture of my apology, and I'm now asking for your forgiveness."With the gifts stacked at the door, Condor finally believed Samuel was truly there to apologize."That's enough, apology accepted. You can go now," Miles called out from behind the crowd.Samuel nodded quickly and led his men away, disappearing as quickly as they had arrived. As soon as they were gone, Helen turned pale and let out a shaky breath. "That was terrifying! That man's aura is so frightening!"Condor just stared at the mountain of gifts. "We shouldn't accept all this from him. We need to return them!""They should pay for scaring my wife!" Miles said, dragging the boxes inside without waiting for permission.Helen snapped, "Pay what? Your dad has already paid two hundred thousand dollars to your Uncle Herman to find so

Milo froze the moment he saw Samuel. Could the casino manager really be so influential as to bring Samuel Howard here in person?"Mr. Howard's here himself! You're dead meat now!" Milo hissed at Miles as he clenched his teeth, but all Miles could give him was a sympathetic look.To everyone's surprise, Miles calmly stepped out from the corner and called out to Samuel. And then… the infamous Mr. Howard, who was untouchable in Milo's eyes, instantly broke into a smile and jogged over, reaching out to shake Miles's hand."I was a blind man before this, Mr. Clark. I came here myself to make things right and apologize!" As soon as he got close, Samuel gripped Miles's hand tightly. "Every word you said has come true. You are truly a remarkable man!"Milo's jaw dropped. Not only was Samuel not here to back him up, but the man was also practically kissing Miles' feet!Miles chuckled before pointing at Milo and his crew. "That's a way to apologize." Samuel froze for a second. "But… I d

"If he's the district chief, then I'm the deputy of the Department of Public Safety!" Milo sneered. "Who hasn't lied before?"Normally, if someone dropped the word chief, Milo might have gotten nervous. But this time, Terry had promised him that he could keep the entire one hundred thousand if he managed to get them back.Milo owed the casino more than eighty grand. If he couldn't pay up, he was as good as dead. That was why he didn't care if Herman was really a chief or not."Seriously... If you don't pay up, I'll stick this into every one of you right here tonight!" Milo snarled as he flashed a knife. The whole crew he brought along were all desperate gamblers. They had all given up on being afraid, not to mention they didn't know just how influential a deputy chief was supposed to be.To show he meant business, Milo slapped Herman several more times.Miles watched lazily as his uncle got beaten up. He found this entire situation quite funny. Did this count as Herman doing him
