ADRIAN’S POV

When Lila’s phone rang, I picked it up without thinking.

Her phone had been left on the arm of the sofa while she went upstairs to change, and the name on the screen wasn’t saved. Just a number.

Normally, I would have let it ring out.

But something made me answer.

“Hello?”

A pause.

“Lil?”

A man’s voice. Intimate in a way that irritated me instantly.

I straightened in my seat.

“Lila’s not here right now,” I said, keeping my voice even while wondering who, exactly, had the audacity

  • Goodbye Ex, I Married Your Uncle!   CHAPTER 30 Choose Him

LILA’S POVFor one frozen second, none of us moved.Jason stood at the mouth of the alley, breathing hard, looking from me to Adrian to the man on the ground. Adrian’s body shifted instinctively in front of mine, just enough to block Jason’s path without making a show of it.My hands were still trembling where they clutched Adrian’s shirt. I forced myself to loosen my grip and step back just enough to see Jason properly. His face looked drawn, not polished or smooth or smug the way I was used to. There was real alarm there.Fear, maybe. Or guilt.“Did you do this?” I asked.Jason’s eyes snapped to mine. “Absolutely not.”Adrian let out a cold, humorless laugh. Jason ignored him and took one step forward before Adrian’s gaze turned so sharp it made him stop.“It was Chloe,” Jason said quickly. “I found out and I came here to stop it before—”He glanced at Adrian.“Before what?” Adrian asked softly. “Before my Uncle decided to intervene,” Jason finished. Adrian’s voice cooled. “I alre

  • Goodbye Ex, I Married Your Uncle!   CHAPTER 29 Just Hold Me

LILA’S POVSome days later, I sat cross-legged on the sofa in Adrian’s living room with a spread of college brochures on fashion design all around me.A few private institutes, some proper universities, and one program abroad that I wasn’t brave enough to seriously consider yet. I had spent the past week visiting campuses, speaking to staff, asking nervous questions, and pretending not to notice how strange it felt to plan a future that belonged to me.I was so busy comparing course structures that I didn’t hear Adrian come in until his shadow fell across the coffee table.I looked up.“What’s all this?” he asked.I glanced back down at the brochures and felt unexpectedly shy. “Nothing…” He raised an eyebrow.I exhaled. “Fashion design courses,” I admitted. “I know it probably sounds silly. I’m too old for college now, and everything happened so late, but…” I ran a hand over one of the glossy pamphlets. “I’ve always liked fashion design.”He didn’t laugh. He didn’t dismiss me or look

  • Goodbye Ex, I Married Your Uncle!   CHAPTER 28 With Her or Against Her

JASON’S POVChloe had been nagging me for days that we weren’t spending enough time together for a couple that was supposedly about to get married.Normally, I would have put her off.But after everything that had happened, after the company chaos and the media disaster and Adrian’s smug face every time he turned a knife in my direction, I decided maybe it was easier to just get through one evening. So I texted her that I would take her out.By the time I arrived at the Montero house, I was already regretting it.Maggie opened the door herself. That alone told me enough.“You’re early,” she said coolly.I looked at my watch. “I’m right on time,” I said. “Chloe is still getting ready.”Of course she was. I stepped inside anyway. The house already looked… off.Not empty, not yet, but hollowed somehow. Like the performance of wealth was still there, but the machinery underneath had started to fail. A flower arrangement on the side table had gone slightly dry at the edges. One of the lam

And just like that, a name clicked.“Jason,” I said calmly.More silence. Then, “Put her on.”I leaned back slightly, the phone cool against my ear. “She blocked you, so you’re using someone else’s phone to call her? Are you really that pathetic?”His voice sharpened immediately. “I have a right to speak to her.”“Oh, I’d love to hear this,” I laughed.“She and I have history,”

  • Goodbye Ex, I Married Your Uncle!   CHAPTER 26 Am I Being Followed?

LILA’S POVWhen I walked into the living room that morning, Adrian was holding my phone. For one ridiculous second, my heart skipped. He looked up immediately. “Sorry,” he said. “You left it here. I was about to come look for you.”I crossed the room and took it from him, my fingers brushing his. “Thanks.”He had already changed into a dark shirt and trousers, looking halfway between relaxed and ready to take over a country. On the coffee table beside him sat a laptop, two folders, and a cup of coffee that had gone untouched.“Are you going in to work today?” I asked. He glanced at the folders. “I was planning to work from my home office. In case you need anything.”I looked at him.“Didn’t you have a meeting at Ambrosia?”“I can call in.”That made me pause.I knew he meant it as care, and some soft, dangerous part of me warmed at that. But another part of me—the part that had watched him fight for Ambrosia with calculated precision—did not like the idea of him skipping important mee

  • Goodbye Ex, I Married Your Uncle!   CHAPTER 25 Wrong Number

JASON’S POVAfter the call with Chloe, I stood in the middle of my penthouse with my phone in one hand and a drink in the other, trying very hard not to throw both across the room. The city sprawled beneath me in glittering silence. Glass towers. Red taillights. Pools of gold streetlight. The kind of view people paid stupid money for because it was supposed to make them feel powerful.Tonight, it just made me feel tired.I took a long drink. What the hell had I done, tying myself to this complete shitshow?Chloe had always been dramatic. I knew that. She liked attention, liked being watched, liked the little performance of being admired. But lately, it felt like that was all she was. Every thought led back to social media, appearances, who was talking, who was watching, and what people were saying. My life was public enough already. The one thing I wanted from a partner was quiet. Chloe had never been capable of that.Lila had.The thought came so naturally that it made me angry.I lo
