I stormed into my dad’s study, slamming the door so hard I thought it might break off its hinges. My fists were shaking, and my head was spiraling with questions, anger, and disbelief.

“Dad.” I yelled.

He stood by the study window, leaning on his cane, calm as ever, as if I hadn’t just burst in like a hurricane.

“What is it, Joe? You haven’t called me ‘Dad’ in a long time.” His voice was smooth, almost teasing, like he knew exactly what he was doing to me.
