Raymond’s POV

Crossing into the Vampire Realm wasn’t what I expected.

I thought there’d be fanfare. Thunder. Maybe some supernatural lightshow that screamed, “Welcome to hell, human.” But instead, it was quiet. Eerily quiet. The kind of silence that isn’t natural, as though the world itself was holding its breath.

We sat in the Obsidian Carriage, Jude across from me, calm as ever. He hadn’t said much since we left his mansion, just the occasional glance my way, like he was waiting for something to crack. Maybe me. Maybe the world.

Outside the window, the scenery blurred into shadows. The road didn’t exist. Not really. It was just a line drawn through a place that didn’t want to be tamed. Mist coiled around us, tendrils slithering over the Carriage like it was testing for weaknesses.

“You’ll feel it soon,” Jude had said when we started the journey. “The Veil doesn’t like humans.”

He wasn’t lying.

The moment we passed the Threshold—a massive archway made of blackstone and bone, etched w

Raymond's POVI immediately observed that the room was extremely quiet. It was not the soothing quiet that you experience on a still country evening, when the trees sway gently and the wind stirs through the cornfields. It was a thick, oppressive quiet, where the air appeared to be breathing. It pushed against my ears until I could hear my own heart. The large hall lay before me, with thin, tall windows admitting thin beams of moonlight that sliced through the air. The stone beneath my feet was illuminated brightly enough to shine on my face—my face, however, did not seem quite right. The shape of the surface made my eyes appear a bit wider, a bit more frightened than I actually was.I swallowed hard. I hurt my throat. The maids were in two rows along the corridor, heads bowed and arranged in line. They did not shift, move, or blink. They seemed like marble statues—if marble could silently breathe, only visible when one was holding breath. They were lovely, but not naturally. They wer

Jude’s POVThe moment the Obsidian Carriage passed through the Seraphin gates, the weight of the Vampire Veil pressed in harder. This was my domain, carved out of centuries of blood-debts and dominance, yet even here, the air vibrated with tension. The Crimson Court would be watching. They always watched.Xalor was already at my side when I stepped out. His movements were precise, controlled. But I saw it—the flicker in his eyes. He felt it too. The Veil wasn’t dormant tonight."Your apartments have been prepared, my Lord," Xalor said, gesturing toward the northern wing of the stronghold. The fortress walls loomed high, carved with the serpentine insignia of House Seraphin. No banners hung; I didn't need to remind them whose ground they stood upon. The very stone whispered it.As we ascended the staircase, the murmurs of unseen attendants echoed softly. Dusk-servants, bound to the will of House Seraphin, their forms shifting between shadow and flesh. They drifted along the arches, eve

Jude’s POVThe office was quiet when I returned. The silence wasn’t peaceful—it was thick, heavy. The kind of quiet that came before a storm. I walked straight to the sink in the corner, turning the faucet. Cold water gushed out, washing over my hands.Blood.It clung to my skin, dried in streaks and patches. Some of it was mine. Most of it wasn’t.I scrubbed harder. The sink stained pink as the water carried it away. I watched it swirl down the drain. No matter how much I washed, it still felt like it was there. It wasn’t about the blood itself. It was about what it represented.Challenges.Tests.Defiance.Behind me, the door creaked open. I didn’t need to turn to know it was Xalor."You let them bleed," he said, his tone even. "But you didn’t kill them all."I dried my hands slowly, folding the towel with precision before placing it on the counter. "Killing them would’ve been a waste."Xalor stepped into the room, his boots clicking softly against the marble. He stood a few feet be

Jude’s POVThe call came like a blade to the throat. My office phone buzzed once, a vibration that sliced through the thick silence. I didn’t like interruptions. Not when my plans were in motion. Not when I was two steps away from checkmate. But the screen lit up with Xalor’s name.I answered. “Speak.”“Your warehouse in Eastbridge,” Xalor’s voice was calm, but edged. “It’s burning.”For a moment, I thought I misheard.“Repeat that.”“Eastbridge. Warehouse Seven. It’s under attack. Fire crews are being blocked. Our men are pinned down.”Warehouse Seven. One of the main arteries of my surface operations. The nerve center for blood-distribution, human dealings, and Seraphin relic trafficking. That warehouse wasn’t just a building. It was a pillar. And now, it was burning. My grip tightened on the phone, the plastic casing groaning under my fingers.“Who.” My voice was low, lethal. “Which Lord.”“We’re narrowing it down,” Xalor said. “But the precision… the audacity… it reeks of House Ak

Jude's POVThe mansion’s walls reverberated with every heavy step I took. The air was dense with the scent of his blood—Raymond’s—clinging to my skin, sinking into the fibers of my shirt. It lingered in my senses, feeding the storm brewing beneath my surface. I didn’t calm. I didn’t want to. Not yet.He was reckless. He was brave. He was infuriating. And yet, he was mine.I pushed open the office doors, the carved sigils of my House groaning under the force. Xalor was already inside, standing by the far window, his gaze fixed outward as though watching for the fallout of my wrath. He didn’t turn as I entered."Did it work out well?" he asked, voice neutral.I closed the door behind me, the click of the latch sealing the conversation from prying ears.A smile—sharp and predatory—curved my lips. "Perfectly."He finally faced me, and for the first time tonight, there was a glint of satisfaction in his otherwise stoic features. We didn’t need a toast. We didn’t need words. But I reached f
