“We dare you to make out with Luke for sixty seconds!”

Cheers and hollers tore through the air and I looked around, only to realize that more people had joined in and more had their eyes on us.

I should have chosen truth.

I swallowed and turned to Luke who was staring at me expectantly. He was good looking, he had a strong jaw and bedroom eyes. He was muscular like the other players, tall too.

“Kiss, Kiss, Kiss!”

More people were gathering. I felt a layer of sweat coating my skin.

“Kiss already!”

I stood up on shaky legs and I walked over to where Luke was sitting. He had already made space for me beside him.

“What happens if it doesn't last for sixty seconds?”

“You have to face some kind of punishment.” someone mumbled in the background.

Luke placed his palm on the side of my face.

“You're pretty.” he whispered before leaning in

His lips were soft… And he was gentle. Even his thumb cupping the side of my face gently stroked my cheek in slow cricles.

I melted into the warmth of his mouth and everyone faded into nothing as his tongue rubbed over my bottom lip, asking for better access into my mouth.

My lips parted with ease and our tongues clashed together. I leaned into him and he pulled me into his solid body until I was straddling him.

He groaned into my mouth as I ran my fingers through his hair but all of a sudden, our contact was abruptly severed.

My eyes snapped open and I heard a few screams. There was chaos happening in front of me and people were screaming. Everything was coming to me in bits and pieces.

“Get off him!" someone screamed.

My heart was beating fast and my breaths were coming in shallow, too shallow. I was processing this too slow.

Aidan had one knee on Luke’s chest, pinning him to the ground as she punched his face.

“Somebody needs to do something, he's going to kill Luke!”

I rushed forward and pulled Aidan's fist. He tried to push me away and I was no match for his strength.

“Aidan!” I yelled at the top of my lungs.

His head shot up and he turned to me, his eyes were as dark as night. Nothing but raw anger was written on his face.

“Get to my car, now!” he yelled at me.

“What the hell has come over you.”

“My car! Now!”

Everyone was quietly watching, even the music had been turned off. I was so embarrassed.

I turned around and walked to the door, praying that Aidan left Luke alone.

When I reached outside, I was happy to see Aidan coming towards me but as he drew closer, my heart clenched.

“Get in.”

He said pointing to his car.

I wanted to yell at him, I wanted to say no, but people were still watching and I didn't want to cause a scene.

“Baby, wait.” Lisa whimpered as she ran towards us.

“No, you're not coming with us. Stay back.”

Aidan hopped into the car, slammed the door shut and drove off.

It was the first time I was sitting inside his car. It smelled like him. The interior was made with dark leather and every surface was clean.

His phone rang and I watched him switch it off.

He was fuming, his hands gripped the steering wheel so firmly that they turned white.

When we stopped in front of the house, I jumped out and started running inside but his steady footsteps told me that he was catching up to me with ease.

I opened my bedroom door and I rushed inside, I tried to slam it but a hand stopped it.

He pushed the door and barged in.

“What the hell is wrong with you!”

He didn't talk.

No.

He just stalked towards me.

His eyes hadn't returned back to that light blue, everything about him was dark.

“Aidan, please stop it, you're scaring me.”

That seemed to get to him. He straightened and ran his fingers through his hair.

“Why did you kiss him?”

“It was just a game.”

“Don't lie to me.”

“I swear, it was just Truth or Dare.”

Why was I explaining myself to him anyway?

“You seemed to be enjoying it.”

The answer was at the tip of my tongue, but I held it back and it made it more obvious. I was enjoying the kiss and that seemed to make Aidan angrier.

“I'm going to kill him.”

He turned around and stalked out of my bedroom, I rushed to chase him and he slammed the door in my face.

I heard the locks twisting and turning.

“You wouldn't dare!”

I tried the door knob but it wouldn't budge.

“You son of a bitch!”

No matter how hard I slammed the door that night, Aidan didn't return.

***

The soft click of the door jerked me out of sleep. My eyes were so sore because I had cried myself to sleep.

“Miss Dahlia, your mum is on the phone.” It was the housekeeper.

I grabbed the phone and pressed it to my ear.

“Mum?”

“Sweetie, I've been trying to reach you since yesterday.”

“I lost my phone…”

“Is everything alright?”

Hearing the soothing sound of her voice, it sent me down a spiral.

Should I tell her? It would ruin her honeymoon. This is the first time in years that she's happy and I don't want to spoil that for her. I would tell her the moment she returns back.

“Nothing is wrong mum, I'm just missing you.”

“Good morning Master Aidan.” Immediately I heard those words, my head snapped up.

Aidan was holding a small basket and he was leaning on the door frame, watching me.

I must look pathetic, with my swollen face and tattered hair.

“Dahlia, are you there?”

“Yes mum, I'll talk to you later.”

“Wait, before I go. Mr Smith asked me to remind you of the coming moon festival. You might get your wolf and find out who your mate is.”

“Okay mum, bye.”

I handed the phone back to the housekeeper and she left.

“Did you sleep on the floor?” he asked with a frown.

“Did you come here to gloat?” I shot back. “You must be so proud of yourself.”

My boldness was fueled by the anger in me.

“Someone's fiesty, ” he said with a smirk. He walked into the room but he left the door open.

“I'm really sorry I shouldn't have hit him and ruined your kiss.” he said with a smile, he was not sorry at all.

“Why did you do it?”

He shrugged lightly.

“You just hate me, Isn't that the same reason you threw that paint at me in high-school and pretended like it was a mistake? Is that not the same reason you told everyone that I stole your watch?”

He looked torn. For the first time since I met Aidan, he let his guard down.

We are waiting backstage. There are other people waiting for Aidan but me and Sylas were the first to arrive, so we have a chance to see him earlier than the others.“You’re trembling.” Sylas says I try to calm my nerves but I fail miserably.I don’t know what to tell Aidan when I see him. I don’t know how he would react. I want to slap him and ask him why he’s putting himself in such a situation. He says hockey is his life and yet here he is, snapping bones in the middle of the night. How did he get so strong?“Don’t you think that you don’t have any right to tell him what to do? Since you betrayed his trust? If you were still his mate then things might have been different” Ayla says and for the first time, she’s making sense. This is a really bad idea, I can feel it in my bones. The door opens and Aidan steps in. I cross my hands over my chest, hiding my shaky hands as he starts making his way towards us.I can’t run now, I definitely cannot hide.“You did well.” A man in a dark s

The night is stark and the air is filled with something that feels like sin. I don’t know if it’s the effect Sylas Reid has on me… but it’s a feeling I am afraid of.He’s sitting comfortably at the edge of the leather couch, while I’m nestled at the opposite couch.I study the viper on his forearm, I wonder why it’s two headed.“How long did it take?” I ask, sipping a drink. He lifts his arm and studies the snake like it’s the first time he’s seeing it. “I did it in one sitting.” His tone is somewhat clipped but his eyes are wistful. “No numbing cream, no alcohol, just silence.”“It’s beautiful.”“Thank you. Do you have any tattoos?”“No, but I’m not totally against it.”I am not the kind to like tattoos but I am the kind to appreciate a good work of art.I look around the semi dark room, I can’t see anyone at the far corners but I can tell that they’re a few couples making out here and there. There’s also a dark figure sitting by our right, the smoke from his cigar is almost choking

I turn around to find Esmeralda and Lilly staring at me with shock, their eyes as wide as saucers. Em turns her gaze to the door, where Sylas had walked out just seconds ago. “When were you going to tell us?” Lilly asks, taking a step towards me. “Tell you what?”“Oh Dahlia, please. We saw them. Three hockey stars in one place? What's going on?” “Nothing.” The look of disappointment on both their faces literally melts my heart. “It's not what you think and it's way more complicated than it seems.”“I understand, it's none of our business.” Esmeralda says and Lilly grunts. “No Lilly, it's really none of our business. If you ever need to talk, remember what I said earlier.” Esmeralda squeezes my arm and walks by but Lilly sulks and goes back into the storage room. I lean against the counter and take a deep breath in. Why the hell did I accept Sylas's request? Would it not confirm Jace's suspicions? And why the hell is Sylas Reid asking me out. “I'm so stupid.” I whisper to myself.

“Bless you.” Lilly says handing me a tissue. She looks like she’s about to take me to the hospital if I sneeze one more time.“Thanks. I think I’ll have to make my way back to bed. I don’t feel too well.” I say to her as I wipe my nose.“Sorry, how long were you in the rain?”I had told her the story of how I left the library but I didn’t specify who gave me a ride, I just told her he was a knight in shining armor. “A long while, I can’t guess how long.”The storage door is open so I can see Esmeralda running to us. Her face is red and her eyes are wide with a mix of terror and excitement. “Dahlia, there’s someone behind the counter. He is asking for you.”I push myself off the wall and toss the tissue into the bin.“You will not believe it.” She says jumping and clapping.“Who?”“Jace Rossi.”“Wait, the hockey player?” Lilly asks, surprise is written all over her face.I feel the blood drain from my veins. This can not be good.Seeing my reaction, Esmeralda’s face pales.“Dahlia, a

Cheers erupts throughout the arena. We won. I won. My breathing comes fast and hard. I turn to the audience, my face is plastered on the big screen and everyone is on their feet, chanting my name.“Aidan!… Aidan”I’m almost knocked out of my feet as a force comes crashing at my side. “You did it.” Damir says banging his hand hard against my back.Jace is on me the next second, clapping my helmet.“We fucking won!” I turn my attention back to the audience. I look towards the club seating, where my dad said he would be seating. But it’s not him I’m looking for… or Mrs Rhea. My dad and I haven’t spoken in three months but he sent a message earlier today, saying that Dahlia would be seating with them. The information had thrown me off my feet and sent me down a spiral. I always wondered if she came to watch me play.My dad had assured me that she was coming. Was he trying to stretch an olive branch? I hold my breath as I scan the club seating and a clog lodges in my throat as I spot

“Ready for the big game?” Esmeralda asks as she pours coffee beans into the grinder.“I don’t think I’m going,”“You’re not going?” Luke asks, as he grabs the box and places it in his courier bag.“No, I don’t…” My phone vibrates on the counter. I grab it and stare at the screen.“Wait, I just got a text from my mum.” I say to Esmeralda ‘Honey, your dad and I are on campus. We came to watch Aidan play. I’ll text you our seat number so you can come and join us.”I’m about to tell her that I would not be coming but I think better of it and drop my phone. If she doesn’t see me, my absence would speak for itself.“I’ll go to the library instead. I have a presentation next week and I need to study.” Esmeralda shrugs but she doesn’t peel her eyes away from me. “What?”“Is something wrong?” She asks quietly I pause, “Everything is fine, why are you asking?”“It’s been two months since we met.
