CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN

"Thank you for coming in," Emily said, standing up from her desk and firmly shaking the mountain of the man she'd discussed with for the past minutes.

He nodded curtly and strode out of her office.

Emily fell back on her seat with a slow grin widening across her face. She'd never been so grateful or felt so wholesome.

The past few days at Elrold corps had been startling. She'd been out on the streets investigating cases of domestic violence, mental illness, and drug abuse on children, interviewing the victims and witnesses, compiling reports of these cases, monitoring and updating her reports, providing counsel, scheduling court appointments, giving counsel, and so on.

She picked up her pen and scribbled on her notepad. She had just officially concluded a case of a fairy kid whose guardians had forced to use her powers to earn them a living. Emily and her team had successfully pried her out of their hands and taken her to a fairy family in need of a child.
