Cassie POVI woke up to the most delicious scent of coffee and freshly baked pastries, the smell luring me from the bed like a siren’s call. But as soon as I moved my legs, I realised just how stiff I was. I’m not sure what had gotten into Vasilios, but he was behaving like a horney teenager and we had made sweet and passionate love at least five times during the night. Hold on, would it be called “making love” when we didn’t love each other? Maybe it was just wild and animalistic sex, instead. Dragging myself to sit at the edge of the bed, I spotted a tray on Vasilios’s desk with a pot of coffee and a plate piled high with flakey bougatsa pastries and covered with blueberries. “He clearly likes me well enough to feed me,” I chuckled to myself, the smile quickly vanishing when the stab of pain ran down my legs as I stood up. Forcing myself forward, I gritted my teeth through the short distance to the desk and sank into the chair gratefully, pouring myself a cup of coffee. My phone
Cassie POV“Let me see if I have this right,” Elle said as she swirled the wine in her glass, watching the light play in the ruby hued liquid. “You don't want the man, but you don't want someone else to have him either.” I huffed and crossed my arms, “I'm not saying that. I just don't think it would be a good thing if Vasilios was seen romancing any other female until he is Alpha, so it would be better if he didn't spend time with desperate bitches like Amber.” Eliana pursed her lips before she took a sip of her wine and nodded thoughtfully. We were sitting on the private balcony of her and Luca’s assigned bedroom, the candle on the table being the only source of light out there. We were thankfully alone, Luca and Vasilios having gone down to the gym to practise sparring for the final part of the tournament.“So if he were handed over the title tomorrow, you'd be fine if he started up his relationship with Amber again?”“No, that would make him look bad. Maybe he would need to wait
Cassie POVThe night before the fight, Vasilios and I lay together in bed, my head resting on his chest. I could hear his heart beating steadily, my breathing synchronised with his. “Are you nervous?” I whispered, swallowing my own fears for what was to come. He took some time answering, almost as if he were fighting an internal battle before he could reveal what was on his mind. “Yes,” he said softly. “Titan thinks that this fight will be easy - both Viktor and his wolf are much smaller than us and much weaker too. But I know my cousin’s ways. He will have something up his sleeve and I don’t want to be unprepared by it.” I nodded, understanding what he was thinking. Viktor almost certainly had something planned, but it would be impossible to anticipate before we were all standing on the battleground together. “It’s fine, though. I have a few things up my sleeve too,” Vasilios said gruffly, his hand trailing up my back and causing goosebumps to spring up across my spine. “What h
Vasilios POVThe morning of the challenge arrived too quickly for my liking, and while I was as ready as I was ever going to be, I wasn't confident that I was going to win. As much as I had physical strength and my size on my side, there was no way on earth that I was going to be able to match the sheer cunning and willingness to bend the rules that made up the entirety of Viktor’s gameplan. Luca had quietly spied on Viktor preparing for our battle - fighting one of the junior warriors in the pack. And while I had a feeling that he had chosen that particular warrior knowing that he was being watched, I couldn’t be certain. It wasn’t unheard of for an opposing wolf to be murdered in a tournament, and that thought crossed my mind a thousand times. The sun’s golden rays peaked through the curtains and I stifled a sigh, wishing with all my heart that I didn’t have to tear myself from Cassandra’s arms. She lay with her head on my chest, her arm draped over me and her leg pinning mine down
Cassie POVI stood, frozen in place as I watched the blood pouring down Vasilios’s arm. The sickening grin on Viktor’s face made me nauseous. The man was up to something, I could feel it in my bones. “Why isn’t Vasi attacking him?” Luca muttered under his breath in Italian. “There must be something wrong.” Elle grabbed my hand and squeezed it tightly, and I could feel her fingers trembling. Or maybe it was my own fingers that were trembling - I couldn’t tell. Viktor lashed out at Vasilios again, aiming for his face as Vasilios stepped backward, holding his arm, his blood coating his fingers. Viktor continued his assault, while Vasilios artfully dodged every blow and yet didn’t attack his cousin back. “Come on, Vasi,” Elle breathed beside me. I darted a glance to where Vasilios’s parents were seated, and wasn’t overly surprised to see his father’s emotionless expression as he watched his son fight for his life. After all, it had quickly become apparent that Viktor was aiming to ki
Cassie POVI watched Vasilios kneel and bowed his head as the man dressed in black moved to his side. Viktor, the snake that he was, crawled away and disappeared between the spectators without anyone even noticing, their attention focused on the man who commanded so much attention while seeming pretty darn ordinary. “Young Kythira, you fought well, although I have seen you fight better in the past. Don't tell me that you're losing the skills you trained so hard to gain,” the man chuckled, reaching down and ruffling Vasilios's hair as if he were a small boy.“No, Your Majesty,” Vasilios replied, and I could hear a smile in his voice. The King. Of all the people I expected would one day visit our tiny island, you can bet your bottom dollar that the King of the werewolves was not one of them. Beside me, Luca stood to his feet along with all the other men, seemingly released from their command to pay their respects to their ruler.“King Mattias,” croaked Otis as he stood up from his
Cassie POVThe clock in the grand hallway struck midnight and I sighed, rolled over in the gigantic bed and looked over at Vasilios's side. He still hadn't returned from his discussion with his father, and I was desperate to find out what had happened. Dinner had certainly been an elaborate affair, with the King having been seated on one end of the long table, and Alpha Dimitri on the other. Vasilios had walked to the seats beside the King without even a question, and pulled out a chair for me - as if there was no doubt in his mind that we had been allocated those seats. I had kept expecting someone to come up to us and demand that we moved, and yet no one did. “I'm disappointed that I was not told that you were undergoing the trial for Alpha,” King Mattias spoke casually to Vasilios as he stabbed his beef bourguignon with his fork. Vasilios smiled slightly as he responded, “would Your Highness have come to state your support of me?” The King chuckled. “That would have been rathe
Cassie POV“He’s your WHAT?” I almost shouted, sitting up in shock.Vasilios sighed and ran his hand through his hair. How the hell could that jerk with his golden brown eyes, his mousy brown hair and his slender frame be Vasilios’s brother. It made no sense! They looked nothing alike!“You know the story of my parents struggling to fall pregnant, right?” Vasilios asked casually.I nodded, having heard chatter throughout my childhood as to why Vaslios was an only child. “My father blamed my mother for her many miscarriages, and he refused to leave this world without a son of his taking the Alpha title,” he continued. “And so he had an affair with an omega woman I grew up thinking was my father’s distant cousin. My mother knew about the affair, and she knew when Viktor’s mother fell pregnant with him. She gave birth soon after my mother found out that she was pregnant with me, but everyone believed that my mother was going to miscarry me too. Even though I am the legitimate heir, in m
