The schedule Damien sent arrived shortly after eight.

Evelyn sat at her dining table, studying the collection points and delivery windows. The arrangement was better than the previous system, but there were problems. Two shelters had been assigned the same delivery route, and the collection times overlapped with the period when the market road was usually busiest.

She marked the conflicts and sent her corrections.

A few minutes later, Damien replied.

The announcement sent Evelyn straight to the emergency channel. The medical convoy was arriving thirty minutes earlier than scheduled, and the eastern junction was still affected by the fuel tanker breakdown. She checked the public camera feed.Traffic officers had already begun clearing the road. The tanker remained near the junction, surrounded by safety barriers. The recovery team was working beneath it, but the vehicle had not been cleared for movement.Evelyn called Damien.“Why has the convoy been brought forward?”“The central hospital has received several critically injured patients. They're transferring patients from smaller medical facilities to free up treatment space.”“Will the alternative route be ready?”“The first two ambulances can use the western diversion. The larger vehicles are being directed through the northern corridor.”“Has the transport team confirmed the route?”“Yes. They're checking it now.”Evelyn watched the camera as the first ambulance appeared at the

The officer raised his radio again.Within seconds, two more traffic officers arrived and began directing residents away from the eastern junction.Evelyn watched through her camera as the tanker driver pointed towards the rear wheels of his vehicle. The officer examined them briefly before speaking into his radio. She picked up her phone and called the community hall.“What's happening at the eastern junction? A fuel tanker has stopped there, and the officers are closing the road.”The volunteer on duty checked his information.“It's part of tomorrow's medical transfer operation. The tanker is delivering fuel to the northern accommodation centre, but the driver reported a problem with the braking system.”“Is it safe to leave it there?”“Traffic officers are securing the area. A mechanical team is on its way.”Evelyn looked at the road. The tanker was positioned near a slight slope. If its brakes were faulty, moving it without proper equipment could be dangerous.“Make sure nobody ap

#Evelyn enlarged the district map on her phone. The public building marked for possible emergency use was an abandoned administrative centre. It stood two streets away, close enough to make the surrounding roads important to any future evacuation or supply operation. Her own street had been marked as an emergency access route. That did not mean her house was scheduled for relocation, but it meant traffic could increase considerably. She read the accompanying notice carefully. Residents along designated routes were instructed to keep entrances clear and avoid parking vehicles on the road. No compulsory property acquisition had been announced.Evelyn put down her phone. She had no intention of moving simply because a road had been marked on a government map.Still, she needed to understand what the designation would mean in practice. The next morning, she contacted the district transport office and asked whether the road would be closed to ordinary traffic. The officer who answered exp

At six the next morning, the district authority began reviewing the remaining temporary shelters.Evelyn listened to the radio while preparing breakfast. Several facilities had already submitted their occupancy figures, but the announcement made it clear that numbers alone would not determine whether a shelter could continue operating.Every location would be checked for sanitation, structural safety, access to medical services and emergency exits. The first inspection was scheduled for the southern sports complex.Evelyn remembered how crowded the complex had become before the evacuation programme began. Families had slept on mats, injured residents had occupied the medical section, and volunteers had struggled to keep the entrances clear. If it failed inspection, hundreds of people would need somewhere else to go.Her phone rang.“Good morning,” Damien said.“Have you heard which shelters are being inspected first?”“The sports complex and the northern accommodation centre. The cent

Eighty-six residents had to leave the central shelter before nightfall.Evelyn read Damien's message again, then opened the district transport updates. Two buses had been assigned to the relocation, while a medical vehicle would carry residents who needed assistance. The northern accommodation centre had agreed to receive everyone, but its available rooms were limited. She called Damien.“Have they confirmed that all eighty-six people can be accommodated?”“They have confirmed the number of beds and temporary spaces. Some families will share rooms until additional accommodation is arranged.”“Are the medical cases travelling separately?”“Yes. The medical team is sorting that out now.”Evelyn looked at the map.“The northern road is still open, but the junction beside the old market is crowded. If the buses enter from there, they'll lose time.”“What's the alternative?”“Use the service road behind the municipal office. It joins the northern route before the main junction. Smaller veh

By seven the following morning, the medical screening point was already crowded.People who had collected water from the central shelter well were arriving with containers, hoping the health workers could determine whether the water they had taken was safe. Some came with children. Others brought elderly relatives who had begun experiencing stomach pain during the night.Evelyn watched the public emergency channel as updates appeared. The medical team had established separate areas for people with symptoms and those who had not yet become ill. Residents were being advised not to wait for symptoms before reporting their exposure. Then a new announcement appeared.**Residents who collected water from the affected well should not bring the water containers into the screening area. Keep them sealed and follow the health team's instructions.**Evelyn forwarded the announcement to the neighbourhood contact group.A reply came almost immediately.*My mother collected water yesterday. She say
