Karline’s Point of View

The moment I finally reached my desk, I dropped onto the chair like my legs had stopped belonging to me.

The heels, God, I regretted wearing them. My feet throbbed with a dull ache that crawled all the way up my calves.

Seven cups of coffee. Seven walks to and from the café. Each one longer and heavier than the last.

I exhaled softly, slipping off my sandals beneath the desk, careful not to draw too much attention. My soles felt like fire. I pressed my thumbs gently into the arch of my foot, massaging in slow circles, biting back a groan of pain.

And then..

“Karline?”

The familiar voice startled me. I quickly straightened, trying to appear composed, but my foot gave a small twitch of protest.

It was Rio, one of my colleagues from the marketing team. He stood beside my cubicle, holding a file in one hand, concern written across his easy-going face.

“Yes?” I tried to sound professional, my tone steady even though I was caught mid–foot massage.

His brows lifted s

Karline’s Point of View By the time I looked up from the last table arrangement, I realized the sun had shifted completely, the golden light spilling through the windows told me it was already afternoon. My stomach twisted as I checked my phone for the tenth time.No message. No missed calls.Nothing.“God,” I whispered under my breath, pressing a hand to my temple. “It’s already three thirty… I was supposed to call mamma.”I looked around the ballroom, everything was set. The floral arrangements were in place, the lights had been adjusted, the musicians were setting up, and the catering staff was polishing glasses like their lives depended on it. Every detail had been double-checked, triple-checked even.It was perfect. But my chest still felt tight. I need to see Ethan.Just as I was about to send a quick text to my mother, the sudden hum of a car engine echoed from outside. Heads turned. Whispers spread across the hall like wildfire.“What’s going on?” I asked one of the decorato

At the Ball VenueKarline’s POVBy the time I reached the venue, it was already buzzing with noise and motion. Workers rushed in and out, carrying boxes, adjusting lights, testing sound systems. The grand chandelier above sparkled under the early afternoon sunlight filtering through the glass ceiling.I adjusted the strap of my bag and took a deep breath, trying to shake off the exhaustion from the hospital. Focus, Karline. Just a few hours. Then you can go back to Ethan.I flipped open my notepad, the list my manager gave me and started moving through the hall, ticking things off one by one.“Drinks…” I murmured, walking toward the long bar counter at the side of the hall. Rows of wine glasses gleamed under the light. “Wine bottles arranged?” I asked one of the staff members.“Yes, ma’am,” he replied quickly. “Red and white both chilled. Champagne on standby.”“Good,” I nodded, marking it on the paper. “Make sure the champagne is brought out only after the toast.”Next, Food arrange

Sunday Morning in the HospitalKarline’s Point of View The sunlight was barely seeping through the pale blue curtains when I opened my eyes. The soft beeping of the heart monitor and the faint hum of the hospital air conditioner filled the room, a sound that had become painfully familiar these past few days.Ethan lay on the small hospital bed, his tiny hands clutching the edge of the blanket. His cheeks were still flushed with fever, his breathing shallow but steady. I brushed the curls off his forehead, pressing a gentle kiss there.“Good morning, my little champ,” I whispered softly, forcing a smile. His eyelids fluttered open, revealing those hazel eyes that were so much like mine. “Mamma…” he murmured weakly.“I’m here, sweetheart.” I smiled, even though my throat tightened. “Always here.”He blinked slowly, trying to sit up, but I quickly held his shoulders. “No, no, no, stay still, amore mio. You need to rest.”He frowned, pouting. “To..today is Sunday mamma, you not go to of

  • Rejected by my Husband    Chapter 38

Karline’s Point of View..The morning sun felt too bright, almost cruel. It poured through the glass walls of the office building like a spotlight on my exhaustion, forcing my heavy eyes to stay open. I stifled a yawn as I walked through the lobby, my heels clacking faintly against the polished marble. My head throbbed from lack of sleep. I had spent the entire night at the hospital beside Ethan, watching his fever rise and fall like the tides.By the time I got home, it was nearly dawn. I barely managed to change and rush back to the office. The smell of fresh coffee brewing from the break room only made me more aware of how tired I was. I wished I could drown myself in caffeine and forget everything for a few hours, but I couldn’t.I forced a polite smile to the receptionist as I passed by. “Good morning,” I murmured, though my tone was lifeless. The elevator ride felt longer than usual, the quiet hum amplifying every anxious thought in my head. My blouse felt too tight, my hair w

AT THE HOSPITAL The hospital smelled faintly of antiseptic and metal, that sharp, cold scent that never leaves, no matter how many fresh flowers they place at the reception. We rushed through the glass doors, the fluorescent lights above flickering faintly, throwing pale glows on the linoleum floor. My heart pounded so hard I could hear it echoing in my ears as I held Ethan tighter in my arms. His head rested limply on my shoulder, his breath warm against my neck. “Emergency room, this way,” Mamma said quickly, pointing toward the corridor. Matteo followed behind us, his heavy steps echoing. The nurse at the counter looked up as soon as she saw me. “Child fever?” she asked gently. “Yes,” I said, my voice shaking. “High fever. It’s not going down for days now.” “Alright, ma’am, please follow me.” They led us into a small ward, the smell of sanitizer even stronger. A doctor, young, with kind eyes behind round glasses ... entered soon after. His name tag read Dr. Santini.

  • Rejected by my Husband    Chapter 36

Karline’s POVBy the time I reached home, it was nearly eight. The sky outside had turned the color of fading ashes, a dull reminder of how long this day had been. My body ached from exhaustion, from running through the streets for coffee, from working overtime, from holding myself together, but all of that disappeared the second I stepped into the house. The living room lights were dim, and the faint sound of a ceiling fan echoed in the quiet. There, on the couch, sat my mother, Mamma Isabella, her eyes tired, worry carved into every line of her face. In her arms, Ethan lay curled up, his small body wrapped in a light blanket, his cheeks flushed unnaturally red. “Mamma…” I whispered, dropping my bag to the floor as my chest tightened. She looked up, her expression softening for a moment before sorrow clouded it again. “He was calling your name,” she murmured, her voice trembling. “All evening, Karline. Cried for you until he finally fell asleep.” My throat constricted as
