Chapter 2

Author: Rosamund
My family and Jack's pack are ancient allies.

When I was 18 years old, my mother was dying from silver poisoning. Thanks to his mother's rare healing abilities, my mother was saved.

Before the healing ritual, she lay on the sacred ground and cried, "How can we repay this life debt!"

Jack's mother half-jokingly said, "If you truly want to repay, let Anna be my son's Luna?"

I stood there, my omega instincts confused, but Jack's wolf decided first.

"It's settled, Alpha. I want Anna as my mate and will claim her when my wolf is strong enough."

The young alpha made a blood oath, as if he would never break the sacred bond.

So three years ago, Jack and I were moon-promised. I stayed with the pack while he fought in the Northern Territories.

Perhaps out of gratitude, I learned omega healing and pack care, and went to Jack's den to tend to his parents whenever I could.

The whispers among the pack became more and more cruel.

They said I was just Jack's omega servant, and I started working as a caretaker before we even completed the mate bond.

But when I thought of my mother, I endured it all.

To prove my worth, I secretly trained my wolf, becoming stronger than any omega in the pack and winning many hunting challenges.

Later, my mother succumbed to lingering silver poisoning, and my father took a new mate for strength. My status in the family pack became increasingly marginal.

It seemed that there was no one to protect me except Jack.

But now, he told me he wanted another mate.

It turns out that for his alpha, I was just a youthful mistake, far less important than the battle bond formed in mere weeks.

I thought my omega would howl in pain, but I didn't shed a single tear. I just silently took out the token exchanged during our moon-promise from my den's sacred corner.

It was an exquisite silver claw pendant, which symbolized Luna's protection, meant to always guard me.

And what I gave him was the moonstone amulet my mother entrusted to me, which signified alpha strength and wisdom, as powerful as the moon itself.

That moonstone was the only thing my mother left me.

I made arrangements to meet Jack again. Since the moon-promise had been broken, the tokens would naturally be exchanged back.

After midnight, Jack updated his pack status.

He and Bethel embraced each other tightly, their wolves forming a unified silhouette against the moon.

Jack declared, "My wolf has found its true mate on the day we hunted together in the full moon."

So he was in a hurry to break our bond and wanted to announce his new Luna on his ascension day.

I sent my acknowledgment through the pack link.

Since his wolf had chosen, I would release him completely.

A few minutes later, a private message suddenly appeared in my mind-link.

Nathan: "I hope your omega spirit remains strong."

I recognized the alpha name and my wolf perked up in surprise. I didn't expect he would be the first to reach out.

It's said throughout the territories that Nathan is the Alpha of Alphas and untouchable by lesser wolves.

And I had only encountered him a few times during territory gatherings.

Maybe it was a misdirected mind-link.

But the next second, he sent another message.

"Your wolf deserves a stronger alpha."

Nathan's security detail removed Jack's family from the ceremony with efficient discretion.I later discovered that the gathering had originally been restricted to allied pack leaders.Nathan had specifically requested his father, the Grand Alpha, to extend invitations to my family to publicly declare our relationship. He confessed that he wanted every wolf in the territories to recognize my importance to him and his pack.I asked teasingly, "Did you actually arrange for Bethel to attend?"He laughed softly, "Bethel claimed to be the future Luna of Jack's pack—how could we deny entry to another pack's potential Luna? The territory guards simply... followed protocol."I understood then that Nathan had allowed this drama to unfold deliberately. That night, I accessed Nathan's private pack memories through our strengthening bond and discovered something unexpected. There was only a single entry from our first meeting—he had captured my scent trail after I'd left the Inter-Pack Council.Hi

"What's happening here?" Jack rushed over and demanded in a hushed tone. His mother glared furiously. "What have you done! Creating such a disgraceful scene at Alpha Nathan's claiming ceremony. How will we ever maintain alliances with his territory!"The embarrassment was overwhelming. But Bethel showed no remorse. She had committed fully to her performance.Just as Jack had described, she was truly bold and uninhibited.Jack grabbed her arm. "Enough! Don't make a spectacle of yourself!"Bethel broke free of his grip and continued her dramatic display. For several uncomfortable minutes, the three of them created an unseemly disturbance.Jack's father, returning from speaking with other alphas, noticed the commotion and hurried to contain the situation. As the family struggled to remove Bethel from the ceremony, Nathan approached. He intercepted their retreat, one hand casually in his pocket, his dominance effortlessly overwhelming Jack's alpha presence.Only then did I fully appreciate

The night after the Blood Moon Trial, I accepted Nathan's formal courtship request. He announced that upon his return from the territory negotiations, he would host a Claiming Ceremony, inviting the leaders of all packs under his protection. My family was naturally included. On the night of the ceremony, I wore traditional alpha-mate regalia and entered the impressive great hall of Nathan's ancestral territory. The Nathan bloodline was indeed an ancient and powerful one.As the final howl song concluded, the formal ceremony began.Under the watchful eyes of every important wolf in the region, Nathan entered the hall. His imposing presence commanded immediate respect, his ceremonial alpha attire emphasizing his powerful build. His controlled yet potent pheromones radiated noble authority. He appeared completely transformed from the warrior I'd met during territory gatherings. After greeting the pack leaders, his silver eyes began searching through the crowd, finally locking onto mine.W

After the victory ceremony, I searched the crowd but couldn't locate Nathan.I activated our private mind-link."Where are you? Did you witness the challenge?"About ten minutes later, he responded."Forgive me, I'm completing territory negotiations with the Southern Packs. Does the victory bouquet please you?"I couldn't help but smile. "More than you know. Thank you.""Anna?"A familiar voice interrupted my thoughts.I turned to see Jack approaching slowly. He said, "I never imagined it was truly you in the arena. I saw a huntress but couldn't scent you through the hunting markers.""I'm sorry for my blindness. I had no idea your wolf was so powerful." His regret seemed genuine. "You learned to fight specifically to impress me, didn't you?""For you? My wolf fought for itself."Jack frowned, confused. "Then why hide your strength?""I didn't. My wolf emerged years ago.""That's impossible. Why wasn't I informed?"He stopped, realization dawning.Yes, he was battling in distant territ

After that day, Jack sent me numerous messages for the first time.Perhaps driven by guilt or attempting to defend Bethel, he contacted me more in those few days than in the past six months."Is the moonstone repaired? I've found an exceptional healer for you. Contact me when convenient.""I was careless about this matter, but don't blame Bethel. Her wolf acted instinctively.""Anna, are you there? I forgot to ask about your silver wound."I blocked all his communications and severed our pack link.Any remaining business between us would be settled in the Blood Moon Trial.A month later, I arrived at the challenge grounds as planned. While preparing, I spotted Bethel from across the ceremonial circle. She was wearing traditional beta hunting dress—provocatively cut red leather, her fur markings emphasized with ritual paint, her confident stance projecting dominance. The area was filled with Jack's pack supporters. They stood and howled enthusiastically: "Victory to Jack! Bethel, your w

I ignored the silver wound on my hand and searched through ancient pack lore for ways to repair the moonstone. In desperation, I sent a request through the territory mind-link."Does anyone know a pack healer who can restore a broken moonstone amulet? The reward will be substantial."Minutes later, I received a private response. It was Nathan again. He sent me coordinates: "Go to the Ancient Grove, I've already contacted the Stone Keeper for you."Without hesitation, my wolf guided me straight to the location. The Stone Keeper, an ancient beta with white fur, spent half a moon cycle restoring my moonstone to near perfection. When I asked about payment, the keeper said Nathan had already provided a rare alpha blood offering.I settled my wolf and realized Nathan had assisted me significantly without explanation. I immediately sent him a tribute offering through the pack messenger. He declined: "Your strength is payment enough."But my wolf remained unsettled by this debt."Thank you so
