Sage's POV

I followed Clara immediately, my legs moving faster than my mind could keep up. We went through the hotel lobby and into an elevator, and I pressed the button for the children's floor repeatedly as if that would make the doors close faster. Clara stood beside me, her face still pale, her hands still clasped.

The doors closed, and the elevator rose. When it opened again, we stepped into a hallway that has the sign on the wall read "Children's Medical Wing."

Clara led me down the hallw

Vex's POVI waited for her answer, my heart pounding in my chest. The seconds stretched out like hours.Milo looked at me with those dark, knowing eyes. "Aunt Sage did not tell me everything in full details. She only said that she had a huge fight with you three men a long time ago, and that things ended badly. But I am not a baby. I can figure things out on my own."I raised an eyebrow. "And what do you think happened?"Milo crossed her small arms over her chest. "I think that the three of you were fighting over who would get to be with her. And since she did not choose any of you, you all threw a fit and did something to hurt her. You all broke her heart."I stared at her. Her assumption was so far from the actual truth that it was almost laughable. But at the same time, she said something innocent and yet painfully accurate.I rarely laughed. It was not something I did often, or well. But hearing this child, this seven-year-old girl, lay out her theory about adult drama with such c

Vex's POVI could not believe what I had just heard. The words echoed in my head, bouncing off the walls of my skull, refusing to settle into any kind of logical order."Why did you do that?" I demanded, my voice low and dangerous. "Why did you ruin her life? She did nothing to you. Nothing."I was aware of the workers and other people in the waiting room staring at us, their eyes wide, their mouths open. I did not care. This was between me and Cass.Cass lay on the floor, his nose bleeding, his eyes fixed on the ceiling. "I was foolish," he said. "I made a stupid mistake. I was jealous that my mate did not belong to me alone. I could not stand the thought of sharing her with you and Kael. So I thought that if you and Kael rejected her, if her reputation was destroyed, she would have no one left but me. I could have her for myself."I punched him again. My fist connected with his jaw, and his head snapped to the side. He did not try to block it. He just took it, like he had been waiti

  • Shattered by three, claimed by none   Chapter 32: What the fuck did you do

Vex's POVI sat in the hard wooden chair, my eyes fixed on the door that led to Kael's room. Cass sat beside me, his elbows on his knees, his head bowed. In the waiting room, the clock on the wall ticked loudly, marking the passage of time that felt far too slow.Kael was not someone who could be hurt to the point of hospitalization. He was an Alpha. His healing was superior to most wolves. For him to be lying in a bed with cracked ribs and a possible spinal injury, something significant had happened in that cavern. Something between him and Sage. I did not know what, and the not knowing gnawed at me like a persistent itch I could not scratch. But at least there had been progress in the investigation. The guide's revelation about the smuggled crystals was a significant piece of the puzzle. Someone in this community was working with the perpetrator, enabling the creation of the virus. I would find out who. And I would also find another cure, one that did not involve a child. Milo deser

Sage's POVMilo interrupted me, her voice rising with emotion. "All this while. All this time. I was with my father. And I did not even know."I reached for her hand, but she pulled it back."I wondered why he felt so familiar," Milo continued, her eyes shining with tears. "Even though I have never met him before. I felt confused because I felt the same way for Mr. Vex and Mr. Cass. The same familiarity. So I did not think much on it. I thought I was just being silly."I sat down on the edge of her bed and took a breath. There was no more hiding. No more lies. "All three of them are your fathers, Milo."Milo's face went completely still. Her mouth opened, then closed. "How is that possible? How can someone have three fathers?"I took her hand again, and this time she did not pull away. "It is possible. It is rare, but it is possible. I am sorry I did not tell you sooner. I wanted to, but I was too much of a coward to do it. You deserved to know the truth, and I kept it from you because

The room was small but clean, with two beds, though only one was occupied. Milo lay on the bed, her small body curled beneath a white sheet, her face pale and her eyes closed. Machines beeped softly beside her, displaying her heart rate and oxygen levels.A doctor stood beside the bed, checking the machines and making notes on a clipboard. She looked up when I entered, her expression calm but concerned.I rushed to Milo's side and touched her face. Her skin was cool

  • Shattered by three, claimed by none   chapter 29: Break in the walls

Sage's POVKael's eyes focused on me more sharply. Some of the glassiness faded, replaced by something that looked like surprise. "You are agreeing with me?""Do not let it go to your head. I am simply stating a fact. Your family is terrible. They always have been. And they would have done everything in their power to destroy any happiness we might have found together."Kael was quiet for a moment. The glow of his thermokinesis pulsed softly, and I could see him processing my words."It does not excuse what I did," he said finally. "I should have been stronger. I should have fought for you. I should have at least tried.""Yes," I said. "You should have. But you did not. And now we are here. In a hole. Freezing. Waiting to be rescued."Kael let out a sound that might have been a laugh if he had any strength left. "When you put it that way, it sounds almost romantic."I glared at him. "Do not push it."Kael was quiet for a moment, his breathing shallow but steady. Then he turned his hea
