Chapter 4

Author: Strawberry Jammy
My voice trembled, nearly breaking. "Alpha King, is what she said true?"

Thorne nodded as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

"Does it matter?" He shrugged. "We can't hold the bonding ceremony this year anyway, and the flowers will just wither. If the Moonlight Flowers can help Willow, why wouldn't I give them to her?

"Sera, I know you've always been understanding. You can see where I'm coming from."

After saying this, he turned to his silent Beta standing nearby.

"What are you standing around for? Hurry up and pick all these flowers. Take them to Willow's room."

Garrett looked helpless, glancing at me as if asking for help. I stood frozen in place, feeling like my soul had turned to ice.

"Alpha King, we don't need to hold the bonding ceremony anymore," I suddenly said.

Thorne froze. His eyes narrowed as if he hadn't heard me correctly. "What did you say?"

I lowered my head, hiding the tears welling up in my eyes. "What I mean is… my abilities are limited. Even after another ten years, I probably won't be able to cultivate enough Moonlight Flowers to pass the trial to become Luna Queen.

"But these Moonlight Flowers must stay here. I cultivated them with my own blood essence. Even if they rot in the ground, I won't let anyone else have them."

The smugness in Willow's eyes nearly broke through, but she still played the victim. "Sera, I know you're jealous that the Alpha King treats me well, but you don't need to say things like this to hurt him.

"As long as you follow the rules and cultivate the flowers, you'll still have a chance to hold the bonding ceremony with him next year.

"Giving up so easily like this… It makes people think you never truly loved him at all."

Thorne's expression darkened, his patience wearing thin. "Sera, have you made enough of a scene? This jealous side of you is not how a future Luna Queen should act. I'm so disappointed in you."

Willow kept stirring things up. "Exactly! Sera, have you ever thought about the Alpha King? When people find out you don't want to bond with him over a few flowers, who knows what they'll say about him behind his back?"

"Just give these flowers to Willow and go think about what you've done," Thorne said.

He was furious now. He took Willow's hand and walked away without sparing me another glance. I watched their retreating figures, and bitterness flooded my mouth.

I wiped away my tears and tore the wolf fang pendant from my neck, the bonding token Thorne had given me, and threw it into the dirt. Then I turned around and walked out of the flower garden with resolve.

When I returned to my Alpha brother, Alec Moonvale, in the Moonshadow pack, he came up to greet me with his eyes gleaming in anticipation.

"How did it go? You've grown enough Moonlight Flowers now. Is the Alpha King finally willing to bond with you?"

I bit my lip and shook my head silently. Alec's gaze fixed on my bare neck, where the wolf fang pendant should have been.

His expression darkened instantly. Understanding what had happened, he flew into a rage.

"This is outrageous! He's postponing the ceremony over and over again! Does he think your life doesn't matter? I'm going to challenge him to a duel!"

"Alec!" I stopped my furious brother and said calmly, "Forget it. I don't want to be the Luna Queen anymore.

"Help me find a suitable werewolf. Let's hold a bonding ceremony right away."

Alec stared at me in shock, then slowly and solemnly nodded his head.

"Finally. I always knew Thorne wasn't right for you," he said, his voice a mix of anger and relief.

"Actually, plenty of werewolves want you. If you hadn't been so set on bonding with Thorne, they would've been showing up at our doorstep ages ago.

"But does it have to be this urgent? Don't you want to take your time choosing?"

I touched the scars on my wrist and smiled bitterly. "Alec, it doesn't matter who. I just want to survive."

That evening, I was selecting my dress for tomorrow's bonding ceremony when Thorne sent me a text.

"Sera, hurry up and send over the Moonlight Flowers! As long as you behave, the Luna Queen position is still yours.

"You said you'd do anything as long as you could bond with me. Don't make me wait too long."

As I stared at the entitlement dripping from every word, my gaze gradually turned cold. I had said that once—that I'd overcome any obstacle as long as I could bond with Thorne.

But Thorne, what have you ever done for me? Not only have you never taken a single step toward me, but you've trampled on my efforts time and time again.

What I wanted was a love where we both met each other halfway. Not me alone, constantly bowing my head, compromising, and giving everything unconditionally.

That was why I didn't want him anymore. I blocked him and buried the SIM card along with all those memories of our past together in the ground.

Three days later, a luxury car pulled up at the gates of the Moonshadow pack's territory. I got into the car with my wedding dress without looking back.

The moment the car started, Thorne's vehicle screeched to a stop, barely missing our rear bumper. He arrived with Willow and walked up to my brother.

"Where's Sera? Why hasn't she sent the Moonlight Flowers yet? Tell her to come out!"

Alec stood blocking the entrance, his expression cold. "She's already gone to her bonding ceremony."

The last time Thorne appeared in my life was on the coldest, snowiest day of winter. It was the day of our pups' naming ceremony. The Mistwood Forest opened its gates to outsiders for one day. Thorne blended into the crowd, his hair disheveled like a homeless man. He hid in a corner, greedily watching the scene in the hall.Under the warm golden lights, Rowan held two angelic little ones, his face full of adoration as he gently rocked them. Our son looked like Rowan, his tiny face serious. He wouldn't let anyone else hold him, clinging only to his father. Our daughter looked like me, smiling at everyone. She was the darling of the entire pack.I leaned against Rowan's side, playing with the pups. The warm happiness of our family of four stung Thorne's eyes. He remembered how I'd once looked at him with the same hopeful eyes, telling him that one day we'd have two pups of our own. What had he said back then? He'd said, "Stop bothering me with this. Willow's health is fragile. I do

Thorne completely lost it. Like a madman, he lunged forward and grabbed Willow by the throat."You dared to lie to me! I hurt Sera for you! And you've been playing me this whole time?"I watched this scene unfold and spoke calmly. "Thorne, if you'd cared about me even a little, if you'd investigated even once, you would've known the truth."But you didn't. You only believed her words, no matter what it would do to me."Thorne's expression turned unpleasant. "Sera, I didn't know... I really didn't know..."He tried to reach for me again."Enough." Rowan pulled me into his arms, blocking Thorne's view. "Now that the truth is out, take your people and get lost. We don't welcome trash here."At that moment, the Bloodmoon pack Elders who had accompanied Thorne stood there, utterly humiliated. Their chosen Alpha King turned out to be a fool manipulated by a she-wolf.How disgraceful! He was an absolute disgrace to the southern wolf packs!…A month later, everything changed in th

"Mate?" Thorne clutched his throbbing wrist, his eyes widening in disbelief. He looked at Rowan, then at me, shock written all over his face. "What mate? Rowan, what nonsense are you spouting! Sera is my Luna Queen! I'm the one she loves!"She's just throwing a tantrum!"Thorne turned to me, his tone urgent and commanding. "Sera, say something! Tell him you love me, don't you? You spent nine years cultivating flowers for me. How could you move on so quickly?"Did he force you? Is he controlling you with magic?"The guests around us began whispering among themselves. I looked at this hysterical person before me, and my heart felt neither love nor hate, only deep sorrow.I tightened my grip on Rowan's arm and spoke calmly. "Thorne, no one forced me. I bonded with Rowan of my own free will because he gave me what you never could."Thorne froze. "Haven't I treated you well enough? You lived comfortably in the Bloodmoon pack…""Comfortably?" Rowan let out a soft laugh, though the am

The days I spent by Rowan's side felt like a beautiful dream I wouldn't have dared imagine during these past few years. He wasn't like Thorne, someone I had to constantly please. Instead, Rowan organized my life with meticulous care.He personally planned every meal, down to the last ounce of nutritional intake. Every morning when I woke up, there was always a glass of warm water at the perfect temperature on my nightstand. Every evening before bed, he'd massage my back to help calm my restless wolf."Does it still hurt here?" he asked softly as he worked."Not anymore." I lay face down on the pillow, my voice muffled. "Rowan, why are you so good to me?"Rowan leaned down and whispered in my ear. "Sera, your soul is purer than any Moonlight Flower. That fool was blind. He treated an unpolished diamond like a common stone, but I know value when I see it."…A month later, under Rowan's care, my body had regained its vitality. More importantly, my wolf had advanced.Nourished by

Rowan carried me in long strides into the master bedroom deep within the manor. He set me down on the soft bed, then got down on one knee beside it so our eyes were level."Sera, listen to me. A shaman's bonding ceremony is different from a werewolf's. It's not about conquest but fusion."Your soul is too fragile right now. We need to establish the connection immediately so my life force can flow into you. The process might feel a bit strange. Don't be afraid. I'll be gentle."I nodded, and tears somehow began streaming down my face. Nine years of Thorne's commands and demands had made me forget what gentleness felt like. No one had ever been this gentle with me before.Rowan reached up to wipe away the tears on my cheeks, then leaned down and kissed my lips. His soul's power surged into me through the intertwining of our lips. It was a force brimming with vitality. It quickly wrapped around my wolf, which had been on the verge of shattering. My soul trembled. An unprecedented sen

When Thorne heard Alec's words, he froze completely in place. Then, snapping back to reality, he let out a scoff."You're joking, right? Sera loves me so much. She's been preparing for this ceremony for nine years. How could she possibly bond with someone else?"Willow laughed lightly beside him. "Sera will make up any lie just to make the Alpha King angry."Alec looked at them, disgust practically spilling from his eyes. Without wasting another word, he slammed the gates of the Moonshadow pack shut, blocking out those two nauseating faces.Outside, Thorne suddenly snapped out of it as overwhelming panic surged through him. This panic was stronger than anything he'd felt before."No, wait... she's serious this time!"Sera! Come back here!"The wolf blood in Thorne's veins began to boil. His pupils even turned into crimson slits. "That car was heading toward the Mistwood Forest!"Thorne slammed his foot on the gas pedal, racing down the highway in a frenzied chase.Meanwhile, I
