Ren was led toward a silver door in the infirmary, his heart pounding.

'Was this the glass room? What was in there?' He clutched his shirt in helplessness.

"You're quite... dirty. I wouldn't want you staining my glass room," Corvin said as he pushed Ren toward the door.

"You have three minutes to spend in there, anything more than that, you're burned," Corvin said and slid the door open.

"There's a clothes by the side. The door will automatically open if you pass the clean scan. Good luck," He said and gently pushed Ren inside, closing the door.

He stumbled into the dark room, his heart hammering loudly as the door hissed shut behind him. The air was thick and stagnant. He pressed his back against the cool metal, trying to calm his racing pulse, but a wave of dread washed over him.

Suddenly, a blinding light flooded the room. Ren flinched, his eyes slowly adjusting to the stark, sterile white. He was in a square bathroom. A shower stood two steps away, and a new set of clothes—black pants and a brown shirt—waited on a marble sink. He immediately understood. Three days without a bath; he must truly stink.

Suddenly, a small, high-tech panel mounted in the wall above the sink comes to life. It was a clean, digital display with a countdown timer(a 3:00. stark, white countdown timer), and a temperature reading.

The synthesised voice, calm and monotone, announced the start of the process: "Thermal initiation in three minutes. Please comply."

The numbers were sharp and white at first, but Ren knew they'd soon change to red as time went on. If he didn't comply as asked, he'd truly get burned as Corvin had warned.

"Shit," he cursed as he glanced back at the door.

The damn thing won't open unless he is sparkling clean.

'What a clean way to die!'

Hurrying, he got rid of his clothes and threw them in the sink, running toward the shower.

He gasped as the shower automatically released cold spray upon sensing him under it.

Without trying to look for the warm setting, he quickly looked around the bathroom and saw just one tube: a soap tube.

He grabbed and squirted a generous amount into his hands and quickly washed himself up.

However, the time seemed to run faster than Ren's movements, he had two minutes left.

"Oh no..." Ren muttered, he could feel the water getting warmer as the timer hit the one-minute mark, and the second passed, it only got warmer and warmer.

He could only imagine how hot scalding it would get in two minutes.

He wanted to rinse himself and run out the door, but that darned scanner won't let him through, his feet were still packed with dirt.

As Ren hastened, he suddenly started to run out of breath, and the temperature suddenly became warmer.

Now, the hearing water wasn't his only challenge, he had to fight for oxygen, too.

He pushed his wet hair out of the way and saw that the timer had hit the two-minute mark.

He had only sixty seconds.

He gritted his teeth and raised his face to the shower to let it rinse his body.

He scrubbed his hair, squeezing the foam out of it.

As the temperature rose, the numbers slowly turned from green to yellow, then to a warning orange.

"No, no, no," Ren murmured.

Simultaneously, a low, ominous hum began to rise from the grates on the floor and ceiling. The air grew thick with steam, and the walls and floor began to feel warm to the touch.

The hot steam now scalds Ren's skin, making it difficult to breathe, and the hum deepens into a low, threatening growl.

As the last foam rinsed off Ren's hair, he tiptoed out of the shower and quickly grabbed the clothes from the sink.

"I'm done, I'm done, I'm clean!" He announced a synthesised voice as he hopped on his skin, he had thirty seconds left.

The numbers turned a pulsing red, and the walls started to radiate intense heat, the metal frames of the fixtures sizzling with the temperature increase.

At this point, Ren felt a tangible burning sensation on his skin.

"Initiating clean scanning," the synthesised voice announced and immediately, a green scan ran over Ren's body.

"Clean scan successful," The voice spoke and the door suddenly hissed as it slid open.

Without wasting a second, Ren burst out of the hot, timed bathroom and into the infirmary. A gasp of relief left his lips as the cool, sterile air washed over his overheated skin. The cold tiles beneath his feet instantly soothed his raw, aching muscles, a welcome contrast to the oppressive burning heat he had just escaped.

Twenty seconds more and he would have scalded like fish in boiling water.

The adrenaline cooled, and reality kicked in.

Ren suddenly realised that he was naked, and even before he raised his head, he felt two pairs of eyes on his body.

He risked looking up and immediately regretted it.

He gasped and immediately used his clothes to cover between his legs as his cheeks flushed redder than they already were from the hot bathroom.

Axton's silver eyes locked on Ren, unreadable.

He had come to question Corvin about Ren's blood tests and probably tell him about these strange symptoms he had developed.

He never expected to see a naked Ren with flushed skin.

Axton was surprised that he was intrigued by Ren's sudden appearance. Maybe it was that I hadn't seen Ren that clean before, or perhaps it was the flush that stained his skin all over, especially his cheeks.

He didn't know which one, but what he did know was that Ren looked different.

Ren was heavily flustered; he didn't know what to do. Lowering his hand would expose him, and turning around wasn't an option, either.

Returning to the bathroom? Never.

"Captain, I found something interesting about Ren's blood," Corvin suddenly cleared his throat and directed Axton to his experiment table.

Slowly, Axton loomed away from Ren and followed Corvin around the table.

The moment Axton turned his back, Ren immediately pulled the black pants up his legs, zipping himself up and quickly putting on the brown shirt.

He looked up and saw Corving carrying over a microscope to Axton. Slowly, he walked toward them.

"I'm sorry for earlier, Captain. I didn't realise you were here," Ren apologised with his head lowered in embarrassment.

Axton looked away from Corvin's table and gazed at Ren's face. His hair was still wet, dripping water on his shoulder, soaking his shirt in dots.

He could still see the red scalding on Ren's arms and neck, and a certain kind of anger washed over him.

"Why did you send him to the timer bathroom, Corvin?" Axton questioned, his darkening eyes as they moved to Corvin.

He was relieved because he was safe from contracting the virus, but now he's proven never to be able to be Beast-bound. Also, he feared for his future.'What happens next?' Was he now about to get dissected and shared? Axton slowly took his hand away from Ren and slowly swerved the chair around to stare at Ren's face. For the very first time, a faint, almost dismissible smirk curved up Axton's lips. He ghosted his hand over Ren's face, his eyes piercing right into Ren's soul, "You're valuable, after all." He murmured lowly, his fingertips pressing lightly over Ren's good cheek. Corvin cleared his throat, "Captain," He called slowly. Axton once again found himself pulled out of that strong pull. He stepped back and faced Corvin, "Why was he attacked?" He asked directly, his brows raising. Corvin frowned, "Um, I wasn't there, Captain. I was hoping you'd be more interested in immed

Kael looked at Ren and hardened his face, "An experiment, Captain." He answered."Where does he belong?" Axton questioned, his voice cold."The lab, Captain," Kael replied firmly. "Where did you bring him?" Axton stepped closer, a challenge in his eyes.Kael slightly lowered his head, "I'm sorry, Captain. I shouldn't have brought him to the combat field." He apologised."A specimen is not to hurt. You hurt him, out of your carelessness. Rhys?" Axton called, locking his hard gaze on Kael's face."Yes, Captain," Rhys was beside him in a second."The Sergeant has merited a public reprimand for breaking formation. He will be on extra duty for the next twenty-four hours... no food, no water, no breaks," Axton passed his dehumanising punishment. "Yes, Captain," Rhys saluted and turned to Kael.Axton turned to Ren, "On your feet, Renault. Follow me." He ordered and walked away. The soldiers once again cleared the way as Axton moved, no one saying a word for fear of getting punished as well

Ren chilled the moment he heard the familiar growl. The foul smell permeated the air, irritating Ren's nostrils and lungs.A Beast-bound.He heard the sound of metal wheels rolling over the tarred grounds, and slowly, he lifted his head toward the direction of the sound. A soldier was pushing a tall cart-like cage covered with a thick, black cloth. Ren knew that the Beast-bound creature was right behind that dark cloth. The low growling was a quick giveaway. As the soldier pushed the cage closer, Ren instinctively stepped out of the way only for him to freeze when he realised that he had moved right into the captain's front; he could feel his foot stepping on Axton's neatly polished shoe.'Oh, God, could this get anymore worse?' He thought with dread.Very slowly, he moved himself away from Axton's front and raised his head to look at his face, expecting the deadly, chilling look that would probably make him pee his pants, but, he saw none.Axton wasn't even looking his way, as if h

Ren found himself smiling, "Yes, Captain." He teased.Kael scoffed, "Please, I'm nothing like that meanie. Let's go." He said and turned away.Ren followed closely as they approached Stanley standing on an elevated block, taking out spears from a square metal box."Thank you, Stanley," Kael said as he took the spear from Stanley, twirling it easily around his fingers.Ren saw Stanley's displeased face, but he tried his best to hide it behind a polite nod."Here's your spear, Ren," Stanley extended one of the resonca spears to Ren.Ren stared apprehensively at the smooth, silver metal. He recalled how Kael explained the weapon's mechanism. With just the wrong move, he might just send the wrong energy to the spears, and it would resonate and pierce his foot. "Ren?" Stanley called, agitated.Ren blinked and slowly took the spear from him, "Oh..." he gasped as he was almost pulled down by the weight of the darned thing. It weighed like a 60-pound barbell. He immediately held it with both

Kael nodded and proceeded to lead them into the double sliding door beside them.Ren squinted his eyes to focus on the foggy room, and he realised he'd been led into the general bathroom."Here's your locker," Kael led Ren to a locker and opened it for him."There's a towel, toothpaste, and a toothbrush. You'll also find another pair of clothes in there. Find a free bathroom and hurry. My room is 200," Kael hurried to explain and disappeared into the fog.His head felt as foggy as the humid room. Does every second in the Faction have to be hurried? Can't they do things like normal people do?He sighed and reached inside the locker. He grabbed his things and, closing it, turned to leave and bumped into someone... again."Shit," Ren muttered and held his nose as he had collided his nose with what seemed to be a person's chest."Are you alright?" A hand steadied Ren from falling.Ren slowly raised his head and peered through the fog to focus on the person's face. Immediately, Ren moved

Axton thought back to the time in his office when he had touched Ren and felt that strong humming sensation in his head. Feeling the hum could have been easily dismissed, but, what confused him was that gentle string that pulled him toward Ren.Axton was a man of control, he had never encountered anyone or anything that stripped him of it. But, Ren was easily doing so and he hated it, hated Ren.Ren was a threat; making him almost break his character in front of Corvin. He wondered what he would have done if Corvin hadn't intervened. He should keep Ren away from himself, he wouldn't want anyone to realise that his captive had some sort of strange effect on him. He didn't know what it meant, and he wasn't interested in finding out.On the screen, he watched Ren sleeping quietly. Ren had used his hands to form a pillow beneath his head, his lips parted very slightly. Axton stared, his gaze long and hard.He couldn't even understand why he was watching the hidden camera in Ren's room,
