33 - ElaraWe arrive under the cover of darkness and pull into the garage like any other day. Jax and Dev drag the rogue out, head lolling.“What are we really doing with this jackass?” Jax asks.“I really am going to string him up. If he is a ‘freelancer’ then his self interest will eventually outweigh his loyalty. I’m tired of these rogues and whoever else is lurking in the pack thinking they can walk all over me. If they want me to be a b*tch, then I’ll be a b*tch.” I turn and walk away. I don’t have to look to know they are following me.We take the door to the cells that is in the garage. It’s discreet, but helpful if you have had an intense interrogation; you don’t have to walk through the packhouse covered in blood. We have shower room in here too. We have been chasing this group of rogues for an hour, passed straight through Junior’s territory and into the neutral zone. I think they were hoping we would stop at the borders. But, they were dead wrong. I reached out to Junior and his guys met up with us and just missed catching one of the five we are tracking now. They injured him, though, and that is Junior’s focus. I want the one in the front leading the retreat. I don’t understand how they are so f*cking fast. 31 - Ben“We were only able to enter once. The cave was full of what appeared to be supplies and ingredients that match the drugs we have found. Someone is using magic to conceal and protect it now; and I’m sure other places are being used to store the contraband.” I add on.“No one has been able to enter the cave since Elara and Ben found it; and it looks like everything has been cleared out, but I have been reading up on magic and how to detect it. The ozone thing I can’t place, but the rust smell is supposedly a result of a protection spell which makes sense. So that smell is probably part of the glamour on the cave. My question is what are those two distinct smells doing here…now? That’s what I was following today. I followed it to the forest line on your West side then it disappears, same as every other trail I have found.”“We’ll keep an eye out on it too, now that we know. I will also get our elders on the lookout for anything we can dig up on magic to try and help.” Ryker says

30 - Ben“That I have got to see.” Tommy laughs, eating his own food.“We need to find out more about this witch stuff. It sounds similar to what Elara is dealing with in Black Claw.” I look at my Delta.“Jason was working with some of Ryker’s guys, he mentioned magic too.”“When did you talk to him? He’s been on the other side of the arena the whole time.”“You were busy with your ‘nobody’s good enough for Kennedy’ fight.” Calvin laughs at his description.“Shut up.”“Hey, he said it not me. And neither of you are wrong.” Calvin shrugs, shoving the last bite in his mouth, chewing fast and swallowing. “I have to go see my girl. I will catch up to you guys later.” He slaps me on the back and walks away.“How is that possible? I got the impression Ken wasn’t doing great being here.”“You sure that wasn’t you projecting?” Tommy asks, following me to dump our garbage.“F*ck off. You felt it too, don’t lie. The last time we all got to talk to her she was off. She’s never been a good liar.”

29 - Ben“The biggest thing we have found is that they were able to use magic to mask their scents from us.” Josh throws over his shoulder and I stop in my tracks. There isn’t anyone among this group that can wield any magic, let alone illusion magic. So someone is working with or, I guess, was working with them.” “And you haven’t found any witches in the group?” I ask. Even I can hear the hope in my voice.
