Chapter Thirteen – The Familiar Voice

Octavia’s POV

When we arrived home, the Commander and I went straight into the living room, his assistant followed us.

“Sir, I have to leave now. I’ll bring her here as soon as I find her.”

The Commander nodded. “Alright. Don’t keep her waiting.”

“Yes, sir.” His assistant turned and left.

I watched him walk away before settling down on the sofa.

The Commander sat opposite me, but I couldn’t bring myself to say anything.

My mind was somewhere else.

CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR – THE NECKLACEOctavia’s POVI couldn’t take my eyes off the necklace as the auctioneer held it up for everyone to see.My heart tightened, and I suddenly remembered the day my mother gave it to me. I could still remember how she smiled while placing it around my neck, telling me to take good care of it because it was precious to her.I had treasured it ever since, and losing it after her death had been one of the things that hurt me the most. Now, after all these years, I was finally looking at it again.I swallowed the lump in my throat and wiped the corner of my eyes.I had to get it back.No matter what happened, I couldn’t allow someone else to take it away from me again. The auctioneer cleared his throat before announcing the starting price.“We will begin the bidding at five thousand. Who is willing to make the first offer?”I immediately raised my hand.“Five thousand,” I said. The auctioneer looked in my direction and nodded.“We have five thousand from th

  • The Apocalypse Made Me A Monster   The Auction

CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE – THE AUCTIONOctavia’s POVA few days had passed since my conversation with Vanessa, and I had spent most of that time thinking about the auction and how I could recover my mother’s necklace.I knew I couldn’t afford to lose it, especially after everything Vanessa had said to me. I had tried to think of a way to get it back without involving the Commander, but I couldn’t come up with anything better than attending the auction myself. That afternoon, I sat in my room, waiting for the right opportunity.I had already prepared a small bag containing the little money I had managed to save, and I kept checking the time because I didn’t want to arrive at the auction after the necklace had been sold. When I heard voices coming from downstairs, I moved closer to the window and looked outside. The Commander was standing near the entrance with Vanessa, and they appeared to be preparing to leave together. I watched them get into the vehicle before the driver finally drove o

  • The Apocalypse Made Me A Monster   A Desperate Decision

CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO – A DESPERATE DECISIONOctavia’s POVI was still sitting on my bed when I heard someone knocking on my door.I wiped my cheeks, hoping it wasn’t the Commander because I wasn’t in the mood to have another conversation with him. However, before I could answer, the door opened, and Vanessa walked inside.I immediately frowned.“Don’t you know how to knock and wait for someone to answer?”She ignored my question and closed the door behind her.“I came to tell you something.”I looked at her without saying anything. She walked further into the room, looking around before turning her attention to me.“I’ve already made arrangements for the auction, and the necklace will be among the items I’m selling.”My heart dropped.“You’re really going to sell it?”She smiled.“Of course. Why would I bring it up if I wasn’t serious?”I stood up from the bed.“Vanessa, please, that necklace belongs to me. It was my mother’s, and you know how much it means to me. You can keep whatever

  • The Apocalypse Made Me A Monster   Misunderstood

CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE – MisunderstoodOctavia’s POVI was sitting in the parlour with the Commander and Vanessa, trying to enjoy the quiet afternoon even though my mind was far from the conversation they were having.Since Vanessa had shown me my mother’s necklace, I had barely been able to think about anything else. I kept remembering the way she held it in front of me and threatened to burn it if I refused to leave the mansion.I couldn’t allow that to happen. It was the last thing my mother had given me, and I wasn’t ready to lose it.However, I didn’t know how I could get it back without doing what Vanessa wanted. I had no money to buy it from her, and leaving the mansion would only make things worse for me.I was still thinking about it when the Commander spoke.“There’s an auction coming up in a few days. Some important people from different settlements will be attending, and there are several valuable items expected to be sold.”Vanessa, who had been sitting comfortably beside him

  • The Apocalypse Made Me A Monster   The Last Thing

CHAPTER THIRTY – THE LAST THING MY MOTHER LEFT MEOctavia’s POVI sat quietly in the parlour, one hand resting on my stomach. The doctor had examined me earlier and assured me that everything was fine. I was still thinking about the baby and everything that had happened since I discovered I was pregnant.I hadn’t made a final decision yet.The Commander wanted me to keep the baby, but I wasn’t sure I could handle the responsibility. I had only just returned to the mansion, and I still didn’t know what my future would look like.I sighed and leaned back against the sofa.Just then, the door opened.I turned my head, expecting to see one of the maids, but my expression changed when I saw who had entered.Vanessa.She walked inside without knocking, closing the door behind her.I frowned.“Don’t you know it’s common courtesy to knock before entering?”She looked at me from head to toe and scoffed.“You’re not someone I need to show courtesy to.”I shook my head.“What do you want, Vaness

  • The Apocalypse Made Me A Monster   You Have No Right

Chapter Twenty-Nine: You Have No RightOctavia’s POVThe moment Asher left, I turned towards the Commander.I had too many questions, and I wasn’t going to pretend I hadn’t noticed the hostility between them.“Who is he?”The Commander glanced at me. “Who?”“Asher. Who is he, and why do you two seem to hate each other?”His expression hardened.“That’s none of your concern.”I frowned. “How can you say that? He helped me when you sent me out of this mansion. He was the one who saved me when monsters attacked me. So, you have no right to question me about knowing him.”The Commander’s eyes narrowed.“Watch your tone, Octavia.”“Why? Did I say something wrong?”“Don’t dare me, Octavia.”I let out a short, humourless laugh.“What do you want to do? Beat me? Shout at me? Or perhaps tell Vanessa so she can come up with another story about how I offended her?”His expression changed.I knew I was pushing him, but I was tired of being careful around him.He had allowed Vanessa to humiliate m
