The turbulence inside the helicopter was getting more intense. I refrained from screaming as the four men tried to remain calm. I gripped Sinclair's hand and the seat tightly.

“Can we land on the helipad?” Sinclair asked.

“I'm not sure because I can't control the chopper,” the pilot said.

“It's best to put on a life vest now. We're on the water,” Sinclair suggested.

“Can you fly lower? We can jump when we're near water,” Neil said.

“I'll try,” the pilot answered.

The man was talking to someone over the communication system. Sinclair told me to get my life jacket from under my seat. I complied. I let go of his hand before taking it. Remembering the flight attendant's instructions, I put on the jacket.

My heart was beating fast as the helicopter spiraled out of control. The pilot told the people on the other side about the engine and all the details. They helped him by giving instructions on how to solve the problem.

My stomach felt queasy because we had just eaten lunch. My head was sp

[Darcy]I didn't wait for Taylor to stop the car. I unlocked and pulled the door knob. My cousin called my name, preventing me from exiting the SUV. I ignored her shouts and jumped out. Many reporters were at the entrance, but Scott helped me get past them. Unbelievable. Even though I was wearing sunglasses and a facemask, they could recognize me. The press was scrambling to ask questions. Fortunately, the security guards opened the way for me.“Boss won't like this,” Scott said.“He won't know if you don't tell,” I retorted.I approached the nurse station and asked about Keane. They refused to tell me any information about the baby. After I mentioned I was his biological mother, and Scott drew his gun, they shared his ward number.Taylor walked with me to the room. We took the elevator to the top floor. Keane was in one of the VIP rooms, the heavily secured place. I might be unable to get in, but I wouldn't give up.“You can't come in,” Joseph stood before me as I exited the elevator

[Sinclair]Conrad was investigating who among my mother's friends had viciously slandered her. It would take him a long time because the incident had passed. Poppy Swan was one of the people I unfortunately suspected.I hoped I was wrong. I couldn't imagine that the woman who had treated me so well during those difficult times would hurt my mother. Not many people helped me get back on my feet after Dad passed away. Poppy bravely stood up to her husband, who disapproved of her supporting me.“Who is Joaquin Fernandez?” my mom's best friend asked. “I've never heard that name. Is he an actor?”“Are you sure you never knew him?” I repeated.Poppy smiled. “Sin, I know numerous people, but that name is unfamiliar.” She patted the back of my hand. Her demeanor didn't change. Her eyes, smile, and movements remained calm, but her palm was cold. I couldn't tell if it was the air conditioning or she was nervous. [Darcy]A baby's cry greeted my return from work. I rushed to the nursery and was touched to see the tear-stained baby. I went over and hugged him. Briefly, he stopped crying and sobbed.“Do you miss Mommy? You know Mommy is coming home, but greet her with your loud voice. Why aren't you laughing? Aren't you tired of crying like this?” I asked. The six-month-old baby just rested his head on my chest. He sobbed because he had cried too much. I went back to work when he turned three months old. That was the only time I could give him my full attention.Keane was like any other baby when his mother was away, but he had a new habit. After he remembered the time I returned home, my son cried. My little one knew when I was coming home. If I were late, he would keep crying until I got home.“You can't go on like this, dear. I have meetings after working hours. I can't come home at the same time every day,” I cooed. My phone in the bag rang. The babysitter took my baby so that I could answer

Keane's favorite stuffed animal wasn't on his bed. Some of his favorite toys weren't on top of the dresser either. I checked his drawers. It was empty. No. Who took my son? Could the babysitter have kidnapped my baby?I rushed out of the room and checked the nanny's room. Her wardrobe was empty. The suitcase she used to carry her belongings wasn't beside the closet either. Oh, my God. It couldn't be happening.I dialed the woman's phone. Hearing the dial tone, I waited impatiently. But until the ringing ended, the woman didn't answer. Olivia didn't pick up after two calls. Shit! Where did the nanny take my son?My phone vibrated as I descended the stairs. Reading the name, I answered immediately. “What did you do to Keane? Where is he!?”“I'm at Channing's house, ma'am. Keane is with me,” she answered.“Oh.” I was stunned. That was right. Maybe Mom asked her to bring my son there because I stayed in Cullen's room. “I'm coming.”I felt relieved knowing my son was in safe hands. Thankfu

My heart was pounding, suffocating my chest. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. My hands were tingling because I was gripping the steering wheel tightly. I breathed and hurried to get my phone from my bag.“If I were you, I wouldn't do that,” a man said through the front door glass beside me. His friends stood in front of my car, pointing their guns at me. “Don't try to call the police, and get out of your car carefully.”I swallowed hard. Who among my enemies had sent those people? Were they going to kill me or hurt me slowly? My whole body was trembling. Catching my breath couldn't help me calm down.“Get out!” The man beside me knocked loudly on the door glass.I unlocked the car and opened it. The man pulled my body impatiently. "What the hell is this!? Who are you!?" I scolded, trying to get up the courage.“You don't need to know who we are.” The man glanced at the companion at his side. The second man placed a piece of paper before me. “Pay your debt.”I scoffed.

Remembering my purpose for entering, I ignored the strangeness and approached the safe box. I entered the code and opened it. There should have been velvet boxes of various sizes and colors inside. What appeared before me was an empty safe.My knees buckled, but I braced myself. I took a deep breath and let it out slowly. My hands trembled as I fingered the drawers. My vision wasn't wrong. The safe was empty. There wasn't a single jewelry box left.“No... It can't be happening...” I shook my head. “This can't be happening to me...” I looked around me.I understood what had changed. The limited edition of clothes, bags, shoes, and so on that were supposed to be in the room were gone. They only left clothes that were not as expensive as the limited collections.“Please...” I still had hope.I dragged my feet to another room, Cullen's closet. After opening the door, the lights turned on automatically. I took in my surroundings with a broken heart. It was empty. They left nothing.“No...”

[Darcy]I saw the cut marks on his forearm and suspected he had other wounds on his body. But I didn't expect it to be that big. The wound on his right chest was far from the heart. I had no idea what it was.The big, more nasty scar was on his upper left shoulder. I saw the gunshot wound in the movie. His scar was worse than that. The scar didn't resemble the burn scar on my sister's face. What kind of life did he live?We slept together a few times, but he never had nightmares. He wasn't delirious either. I would hear it no matter how deeply I slept. A person who had so many wounds on his body would have trauma. How could his soul heal without a trace?“Mrs. Wyndham,” Scott called out, breaking my reverie. “Let's go to your seat.”“Ah, yes,” I said.Errol welcomed us and invited Sinclair to follow his secretary. I had a bad feeling on the helicopter. It only got worse when I arrived at the venue. I didn't expect anyone to dare disrupt the event with such tight security. I should have known the tight security meant something.Joaquin couldn't have sent his men to attack me. He wasn't stupid enough to involve so many people in his actions. Criminals like us would attack guerrilla style and leave no trace. We were against dealing with the police.Darcy did the right thing by keeping quiet. She didn't scream hysterically like the other women near us. It was foolish of them to give away their position to the shooter. I looked for a place near us to protect ourselves.“Errol! Show yourself!” a man shouted as he entered the dining room. The sound of machine gun fire was close to us. Tableware broke, and the sound of objects falling to the floor deafened my ears. Darcy and I were under the table. It shielded us from the objects falling from it.The women screamed hysterically while the men swore. My

[Sinclair]Having dinner with her felt natural because I used to have breakfast with her at her apartment. We had only been married for a few hours, but the things I was worried about didn't happen. There was no excessive drama between us.Did that only happen to couples who married for love? Darcy and I were from a class where people couldn't choose their life partners. We got married for the benefit of the company and family. It was also why she and Cullen got married. After the meal, we headed to the front room to meet our guests. Darcy's goal was her son. I knew she wouldn't use her monthly allowance to buy luxury items like she used to.Darcy was my tool for revenge. She must not be inferior in appearance to any woman. After clothes, she needed jewelry to improve her status. People wouldn't care about her widow status when they knew she was my wife.Having a wife was costly. I should have stuck to my plan of not getting married. But I could get the money within a week. Sleeping w

Olivia secretly sent photos and videos of Keane at night. We didn't talk or text because I didn't want to make it difficult for her. Bridget forbade me to see my son. She must have forbidden the nanny to have anything to do with me.“Why are you holding the phone? Where's Olivia?” I asked worriedly.“I caught this damn nanny sending pictures and videos of Keane to you. How dare you tell her to do that!” Bridget accused.I closed my eyes and took a deep breath to calm myself. Olivia couldn't get in trouble for secretly sending that message to me. I didn't want Bridget to fire and replace her with someone I didn't know.“Keane is my son, Bridget. I have a right to—” I said.“Keane doesn't have a stripper mom!” she screeched. “Stop bothering my grandson! I don't want you messing up Channing's good name. Enough, Darcy!”Bridget disconnected the phone just like that. My chest ached at the accusation. No, it didn't. It wasn't an accusation but a fact. I was a dancer, but I never performed n
