"No, it can't be!" My mother shook her head, eyes wide as if she had seen a ghost.

"Seize her!" She turned to Silas, who was already making his way toward me.

"Paralizzare." The utterance flowed easily past my lips, stopping Silas right in his tracks. I wasn't even familiar with the words, but they seemed to conform to my thoughts. The sound of gasps heightened as Silas remained rooted to the ground, asking me to set him free.

"Lasciarsi andare." My mother shouted, standing on her feet and towering over my short frame.

"Have you no shame?" I raised an eyebrow, tilting my head to get a good look at her disgusting face.

"Lasciarsi andare." She repeated, a look of controlled fear passing behind her evil eyes before she quickly masked it. I could feel her magic swaying mine, giving Silas just enough space to stretch his hand. She was trying to override my spell, but her efforts proved futile.
