The interior of the Maybach was suffocatingly warm compared to the biting rain outside, filled with the soft, high-end smell of rich leather and cedarwood. Sheba sat squeezed into the far corner of the plush back seat, clutching her damp coat around her knees. Her body wouldn't stop trembling, a violent vibration running from her core all the way to her fingertips.

In the front seat, the driver pulled off his leather driving gloves and turned around with a bright, easy smile that practically cut through the tension in the car.

"Hey, easy there," he said, his voice warm and full of life. "I’m Julian. Don't mind the big brooding statue sitting next to you. He looks like he bites, but I promise he’s mostly just bad for people's blood pressure."

Sheba flinched slightly at the sudden friendliness, her wide brown eyes darting from Julian to the man sitting beside her.

Damien didn't even blink. He didn't smile, nor did he offer a single shred of warmth. He sat in complete, rigid silence, his long legs crossed, dark eyes fixed on a glowing tablet mounted on the seat back in front of him. His presence was massive, oppressive, and utterly freezing, filling the quiet space of the luxury vehicle with a ruthless authority that made Sheba feel smaller than ever.

"Julian, drive," Damien commanded, his low, gravelly baritone slicing through the air like a razor blade. He didn't look up from his screen. "And stop chatting with the asset."

Julian rolled his eyes fondly through the rearview mirror, shooting Sheba a subtle, reassuring wink before throwing the car into drive. "Ignore him, Sheba. We’ve been running on three hours of sleep tracking your family's messy server logs all week. Here, catch."

Julian reached over the console and tossed a small, warm metallic flask straight into her lap.

"Warm cocoa and a dash of cinnamon," Julian said as the car glided smoothly onto the highway. "Trust me, you look like a drowned kitten right now. Drink it before Boss Man over there tries to calculate the cost of getting rain off the leather."

Sheba looked at the flask, then timidly glanced at Damien. The ruthless corporate giant didn't stop her, but his profile remained carved from granite, completely unbothered by her distress.

With trembling hands, Sheba unscrewed the cap and took a tiny, hesitant sip. The rich, hot chocolate coated her throat, slowly easing the icy knot in her chest. "Thank... thank you," she whispered, keeping her voice barely above a breath.

"Don't get comfortable," Damien snapped coldly, his sharp, dark eyes finally snapping off his tablet to lock onto her.

Sheba immediately shrank back against the door, her heart thumping against her ribs.

"Let's get one thing completely clear, Sheba," Damien said, leaning toward her just enough for his icy aura to engulf her space. His eyes were void of pity, staring at her timid, shivering posture like a chess master evaluating a pawn. "I didn't pull you out of that rotting bus terminal out of the goodness of my heart. I don't do charity, and I certainly don't play hero."

Sheba swallowed hard, her knuckles turning white as she clutched the warm flask to her chest. "I... I didn't ask you to—"

"You didn't have to," Damien interrupted, his tone chillingly smooth. "Your family has been an annoying parasite in my sector for two years. Marcus is an arrogant fool, Adrian is a spineless leech, and your mother is a social climber riding on stolen equity. They built a multi-million-dollar empire on your back, and they were thirty seconds away from throwing you into the gutter."

He pointed a long, commanding finger at the canvas duffel bag sitting between them.

"You hold the weapon that can gut them," Damien said, his voice dropping into a dark, ruthless murmur. "You have the core architecture. You have the master system keys. You have everything I need to completely strip your family of their assets, destroy Adrian’s firm, and bury their corporate merger before the market opens on Friday."

"Bury them?" Sheba squeaked, her voice trembling with a mix of terror and deep, unresolved heartbreak. "They... they're my family..."

"They erased you at 2:14 AM!" Damien barked, the sudden sharp bite in his voice making Sheba jump.

From the front, Julian checked the mirror, his cheerful demeanor softening into genuine sympathy. "He's right, Sheba. Your brother didn't just lock you out. He initiated a full digital execution script. If you hadn't pulled that drive, you wouldn't even exist on paper tomorrow."

Damien leaned back, his cold, calculating gaze never leaving her pale face. He looked at her, seeing a timid, broken girl who had been trained to accept abuse as love. She looked like a defenseless little lamb caught in a wolf's territory, shivering in an oversized sweater, completely oblivious to the fact that she was holding a warhead in her lap.

"I am going to destroy them, Sheba," Damien declared, his words laced with pure, unyielding ambition. "With or without you. But with you, with your mind directing the strikes, I can make sure they lose every single penny, every shred of reputation, and every contract they ever stole from you. I offer you absolute protection, a roof over your head, and complete immunity. In exchange, you give me your brilliant brain, and you help me burn their kingdom to the ground."

Sheba stared at him, tears welling up in her eyes. The terror of facing Marcus and Adrian terrified her. The thought of stepping out into the light made her stomach churn. But as she looked into Damien’s ruthless, unshrinking eyes, she realized something terrifying: he wasn't lying to her. He wasn't pretending to love her to use her like Adrian did. He was offering a cold, honest, ruthless deal.

"And... and if I say no?" Sheba whispered timidly, her voice shaking.

Damien didn't hesitate. "Then I pull the car over, hand you your bag, and let you freeze. And by tomorrow afternoon, Marcus will track down that drive, take it from your cold hands, and put you in a cell for corporate theft."

"Damien, man, give her a break," Julian chimed in with an easy chuckle, trying to lighten the heavy air. "She just escaped a war zone, stop treating her like a hostile witness."

"Drive the car, Julian," Damien said coldly, though his eyes remained fixed on Sheba. "Well? Are you going to sit there and cry for the people who sold you out, or are you going to help me destroy them?"

Sheba looked down at her hands, feeling the lingering warmth of Julian's cocoa, then at the heavy canvas bag at her feet. The timid, frightened girl inside her wanted to hide under a blanket forever. But deep beneath the years of abuse, a quiet, dangerous spark ignited.

She looked back up at Damien, her dark lashes wet, her voice small, timid, but remarkably firm.

"I'll help you," Sheba whispered. "Just... don't let them touch me."

For the very first time, the corner of Damien’s sharp, cold lips twitched into a dangerous, dark smirk.

"They won't even get close enough to see your shadow," Damien promised, leaning back into the darkness of the seat. "Welcome to Vanguard, Sheba."

Before the silence in the car could settle, the tablet mounted on the back of the front seat chimed with a sharp, high-priority alert.

Julian’s eyes flicked to the dashboard feed, his easygoing expression instantly hardening. "Damien. We have a problem."

Damien didn't even turn his head. "Speak."

"It’s not just Marcus," Julian said, his knuckles turning white on the steering wheel as he sped up down the dark highway. "Someone else just accessed the estate’s secondary server logs right after Sheba’s departure. The signal is encrypted, but the ping came from inside Vanguard’s own internal network."

Damien froze, his icy dark eyes snapping toward the screen.

Sheba’s heart plummeted into her stomach, a cold wave of terror washing over her. The only person outside her family who had the administrative clearance codes to her secondary architecture was the man who had secretly paid for her private coding servers six months ago.

A man whose name she had never dared to say out loud.

Damien slowly turned his head to look at Sheba, his expression turning terrifyingly cold. "There’s a mole in my firm," he said, his voice dropping into a lethal, quiet whisper. "And they're working with whoever was really backing your family."

Sheba ~ I reached down, grabbed the heavy metal umbrella, stowed it neatly in the door pocket, and I locked my jaw. If they thought I was going to sit here quietly while they fought my war, they had another thing coming. The security lock on the Maybach door clicked silently, an electronic whisper that felt entirely too quiet against the roar of the rain outside. Through the thick glass, I watched damien standing mere feet away from Adrian, his posture radiating a dangerous, controlled fury. Adrian looked entirely too comfortable surrounded by his armed thugs, flashing that smug, condescending grin that made my blood run hot. He thought he had us cornered. He thought he could walk onto this property, insult me, and walk away like a conqueror. He had no idea what kind of storm he had just stepped into. Before Julian voice could crackle through the radio earpiece to stop me again, I pushed the door open. The cold, driving rain hit my face instantly, soaking through my hair and pl

Sheba ~ The sound of Adrian cruel laughter echoed off the wet stone walls of the courtyard, but the words he had just thrown at me kept bouncing around inside my skull like a broken record. Soft. Bloated. Worthless. A liability. They dug deep under my skin, twisting around my heart until I felt completely naked and pathetic sitting there in the dark of the car. My fingers dug so hard into my palms that my fingernails bit sharply into my skin, but I barely even felt the pain over the roar of blood in my ears. Every single insecurity I had tried to bury under oversized coats and late night work sessions was suddenly dragged out into the open for a room full of armed thugs to mock. I hated him for it. I hated the way he smiled while he tore me apart, weaponizing my stress and my exhaustion like it was a game. Outside, damien didn't flinch at Adrian cheap insults, but a dark, murderous shadow crossed his face. He didn't waste breath defending me against Adrian trash talk because he didn

Sheba ~The blinding high beams sliced right through the tinted windows of the Maybach, turning the rain-soaked glass into a wall of glaring white. I threw my hands up to block the light, my heart pounding against my ribs like crazy. The sudden appearance of that unmarked SUV completely wrecked the quiet vibe of the courtyard, turning the whole place into a total war zone in seconds.Outside, the guys didn't waste any time. Julian spun around instantly, his hand diving under his jacket straight toward the gun he kept hidden in his holster. But Damien didn't reach for a weapon at all. He just stood there, his eyes locked dead on the doors of the SUV that had just blocked us in. His jaw was clenched so tight I could see the muscles twitching under his skin. That cold, untouchable attitude he had inside the car was totally gone, replaced by a dark, dangerous anger. Before either of them could pull a weapon or take a step forward, all four doors of the SUV flew open at the exact same time

  • The plus size girl: The mafia secret    Chapter 8 - The Shadow Over The Table

The tinted windows of the Maybach felt less like a shield and more like a cage. Outside, the steady drizzle of rain blurred the neon lights of the city into bleeding streaks of red and gold, but inside, the air was entirely stagnant. Sheba sat rigid against the plush leather seat, her fingers instinctively curling into the fabric of her coat. She hated the sterile, high-tech jargon Damien and Julian tossed back and forth, the way every sentence sounded like code from a cheap spy thriller. It made her stomach churn, stripping away her humanity until she felt less like a woman seeking justice and more like a pawn on a cold, calculating chessboard. Damien caught the subtle shift in her posture. He noticed the way her shoulders tensed, the faint tremor in her hands as she pulled the tablet into her lap, trying to distance herself from the glowing blue interface that had just triggered a localized alert. "Put that away, Sheba," Damien said. His voice was flat, devoid of any warmth or

The red text flashed across her monitor like an open wound in the dark room, the numbers of the digital countdown burning into her retinas. **SYSTEM DELETION PROTOCOL COMMENCED IN 00:04:59...** A cold, sickening weight dropped into the pit of Sheba’s stomach. Her heart hammered against her ribs, each strike sounding like thunder in her ears. “He’s doing it now” she thought, her breath catching in her throat as tears of pure betrayal threatened to spill over her lower lashes. Marcus wasn't even waiting for the morning light to erase her. He was downstairs in his grand study, sipping his whiskey, casually pressing a button to wipe out six months of her life, her sleep, her sweat, her blood, as if she were nothing more than a temporary glitch in his grand plan. Her hands trembled violently as she reached for the keyboard. For a fraction of a second, the familiar, suffocating voice of her mother echoed in the back of her mind, “You are nothing without this family, Sheba. You are wea
