Chapter 1

When I was poisoned and on my deathbed, Mona Culver arrived by my bedside with reporters in tow. She cried sadly. "When every classmate of mine was willing to give up going to Northrind, the country's top university, Celeste Somner insisted on reporting this issue. Because of her, I ended up in community college instead."Celeste used to bully me back in high school because she always thought I was stupid. She would look at me condescendingly whenever I had questions about our homework and insult me, telling me that a girl with an IQ like mine should just quit school and marry a man."When I started at community college, she was jealous of me when she found out James Holden had a crush on me, so she paid some hooligans to assault me. Regardless, we were still classmates, so it makes me so sad to hear about her getting poisoned."Mona's sadness touched the internet, and a huge discussion erupted online. "Which is more important? A person's character or their education level?"Our cl

Less than half an hour after I quit the group chat, James led all of our classmates to kick at my house door madly. When I opened the door, two high-scorers pushed me hard to the ground."Get off your high horse, Celeste.""Mona won't be taking your spot in university. We're just doing our best to give Mona a chance to enrol in Northrind. Why are you showing off when your results are only in the city's top ten?""Are you trying to threaten us by quitting the chat group? Do you think our plan will fail just because you refuse to join us?"James rushed into my room while I was stunned and edited my university application. "Stop acting out, Celeste. We're giving you a chance to be one of us by asking you to join the negotiations with Northrind."I clenched my teeth as I remembered how they poisoned me without hesitation in my past lifetime. The memory chilled me to the bone. They were evil for refusing to let my parents and me go. I could not help but tremble with rage. They mistook

Chapter 3

"If my parents find out that I filled out my application for community college instead of Northrind, they'll beat me to death!""There's only one day left before the application deadline. Will we really end up in community college if we fill out the applications just like that?""Maybe we should think twice about this. Once we become elites in our respective fields, we can still take care of Mona even if she graduates from community college. She won't suffer in college at all.""Yeah. If we don't amend our applications in time, we'll be done for."Several classmates who came from middle-income families started to worry about the plan, but Mona suddenly bit her lip and looked at them, tears in her eyes. "Do all of you think Celeste is right and I'm not good enough to go to Northrind with you? I've always thought of you guys as my best friends… "Forget about it. I don't need you to sacrifice anything for me. I'll go to community college on my own and promise never to bother any of

Chapter 4

When I realized that none of my classmates were convinced by my words, I decided to jump onto the rails, but my classmates quickly pulled me back in a fluster. James looked down coldly at me. "Fine. You don't need to come with us to Northrind for the negotiations, but how can we be sure that you won't snitch after we let you leave?"Mona suddenly suggested, "There's an abandoned train station warehouse next door. Why don't we lock her up in there and let her out when we return tomorrow?"This unsettled the rest of my classmates. "What if something happens to her? Celeste is a girl, after all. What if something dangerous happens to her late at night?""Nothing's going to happen. That warehouse is really near the train station, and there's a police station next door as well. We'll lock her up there while we head to Northrind to negotiate. That way, no one will be disappointed, and we don't have to worry about anyone ratting us out. It's killing two birds with one stone."Everyone w

Early next morning, I received a call from my class teacher to head down to the school. Before I reached the school gates, I heard loud arguing coming from that direction. "Why are you stopping us from amending his university application? My son is the city's valedictorian!""We were only an hour late! The system is still open for applications.""That's right! How dare you stop us from amending the applications? Rules are rules, but we're all humans, so we should learn to be flexible. You can't treat these students like they're ordinary students when they're young talents and high-achievers who belong to Northrind."Our principal stood at the gates, pushing his glasses higher up his nose as he gestured for security to stop the group of enraged parents. He said coldly to them, "The deadline for the application has ended, and there's nothing the school can do."This caused a huge commotion outside the school gates. The parents of the students who had applied for community college f

The head of the education board shot a cold look at the students and parents who were bawling their eyes out and roared sternly, "Your children are already adults. They have to be responsible for what they filled out on the application forms. The school has repeatedly reminded everyone to come to the school to sign the forms and confirm the dates, but they refused to listen."You must not be aware of what they did yesterday. They blocked the gates of Northrind and threatened the university to accept a student with only a GPA of 1.8! They even threatened the dean, streamed their shenanigans online, and paid keyboard warriors to slander Northrind!"It doesn't matter that they could not amend their applications. Even if they did apply to Northrind, whatever they did yesterday would be enough to disqualify them! They should bear the consequences for willingly applying for community college instead."Their parents fell limply to the ground after hearing this. "Where's that wretch, Mona

Chapter 7

"I planned to be the only person to apply for community college. I never expected everyone to come with me to negotiate with Northrind's dean. It was all because of Celeste. All of this happened because of her. She insisted that everyone come together to help me, even though I rejected her suggestion multiple times. She sent some men to kidnap everyone and bring them to the train station, then later to the gates of Northrind."Mona turned to look at James with tears in her eyes after that. "You grew up with Celeste, James. You wouldn't malign her, right?"My heart sank. James avoided my eyes and lowered his head to say softly, "You're right. Mona is right about everything. Celeste forced everyone into doing this. She's jealous of Mona because Celeste has had a crush on me for years, but I only have eyes for Mona. That's why she wanted revenge on us.""Celeste planned everything, and we're victims of this as well. She was the one who taught us how to live stream and gather public opi

Chapter 8

"It's a criminal offence for her to destroy the future of so many students. Why didn't the police arrest her and execute her by gunfire?"It was chaos all around. My mother was about to fall, but she bit her lip to hold me tightly in her arms and protect me. The parents refused to stop, and they kicked us harder each time. I could see Mona sneering from the corner of my eye.I tried to shield my mother while shouting desperately, "I never did anything like that! You've all been tricked by Mona! She made this story up to lie to everyone!" Unfortunately, the enraged parents refused to listen. All they wanted to do was pin the blame on me.That was when we heard the police siren. A man rushed into the crowd and quickly helped my mother and me to our feet. He swept a stern glance at the parents at the front who were beating us up. "She's right. You've all been tricked. Mona Culver and James Holden were lying, and we've got the evidence to prove it."When the parents looked back at him

However, no one was willing to believe Mona this time. There was a suffocating silence in the crowd as our classmates who had lost their chance to attend Northrind glared at Mona with reddened eyes. Their hysterical screams echoed throughout the school."If you didn't brainwash us every day, we would never have been tricked into giving up on applying to Northrind and applying to community college instead!""This is all your fault! I have a 4.0 GPA! How could I end up in community college? My future is ruined!"My classmates thought they were a shoo-in for admission to a top university like Northrind because they had excellent results. The day before the application submission deadline, they believed Mona and James that Northrind would compromise for them. They truly believed Northrind could not bear to allow so many high achievers to slip through their fingers. They were so close to getting into the renowned Northrind, but they had closed that door with their own hands. Hate surged
