(Book 2) Leila has a reputation as the pack princess. Being the Alpha's daughter means that for most she is to be looked at, but not touched. But that's not what she wants. She wants passion and fire with her fated mate. Except Marcus, the grumpy grizzly lawman, wants nothing to do with her and it's breaking her heart. Will she be able to reject the mating bond and move on? When tragedy strikes their small mountain town, will it bring them together or rip them apart? This is Book 2 of the Shifters of Grey Ridge Series **** These books can be read as stand-alone novels but I would highly recommend reading The Alpha's Saviour, which is book 1 in this series, first for added context.

Honestly one of the best writers here. Properly written and very few mistakes. I was a little miffed at Leila as a lot of the issues would have been resolved if she hadn't hid. But...meh. Still a worthy read.

Chapter 1
Leila POVI'm going to die a virgin. It's official. I have obviously done something to anger the fates. My mate, the sexiest man I have ever seen, and the one I was just about to suggest do unspeakable things to me, is currently doing some serious back-pedaling despite the scorching heat between us. And I know exactly why."Leila Jones, as in Alpha Jonathan Jones's daughter?" He asks again, his deep masculine voice laced with concern. It’s as if he is hoping the answer will have miraculously changed from the first time that he asked me.His deliciously chocolatey brown eyes are shaded by his thick black brows, drawn down heavily under the weight of his frown. I wish I could rewind to thirty seconds ago. Before he knew who I was. Before he decided I wasn't worth the hassle. Before he realized that he was better off making his excuses and calling a halt to the evening.Another person who is all too quick to write me off as just the pack princess. I should have refused to give him my name

Chapter 2
Marcus POV Taaffe’s Bar is hopping. Before I even open the door, the sounds of old school 80’s rock music and laughter spill out onto the street. When I step inside, the atmosphere is buzzing with the uplifting energy of shifters and humans all having a good time. The décor is rustic, wood and some exposed brick, nothing fancy, nothing that can’t be replaced or wiped down. The smell of hops and deep-fried bar food fills my nostrils as I survey the full booths and tables, and the small groups gathered around the high tables dotted around the place. I edge my way past the Saturday evening crowd and head straight for the bar, sliding onto an empty stool in the corner and turning to observe the patrons. This place seems to attract a nice crowd. When I enquired at the local diner where would be the best place to go for a drink, I was told that this was really the only place, so that decided it. I’m relieved that it’s not a complete dive. I don’t doubt that there’s the odd

Chapter 3
Leila POV “Kim?” I sniff into the phone as I try to drag myself up off the ground and brush the dirt from the knees of my jeans. “Can you come and pick me up at Taaffe’s?” I try to keep my voice steady, but it cracks, and there is no way that she can miss that I’ve been crying. “Oh honey, you already heard. I was just about to call you. I’m leaving the house now,” she says sympathetically, and I can hear her jingling keys in her hand as she walks through the unusually quiet packhouse. “Poor Rex, it’s just so awful,” she sighs sadly down the line, and I freeze at her words. “Rex? Is he ok?” I ask, fear gripping me. My own worries are now forgotten as I try to work out what could have happened to Rex without somebody mind-linking me. “I mean, he’s as ok as anyone who gets rejected by their mate could be. He’s gone for a run with Cooper and Nathan, and everyone has cleared out of the packhouse to give them some space,” Kim continues as I g

Marcus POV I should be relieved that my first day on the job involves a call out, something to distract me from the callosal cock up I made the other night. I still can't decide whether my mistake was almost bedding the Alpha's daughter in the territory where my new job is, or not bringing her home with me as I had planned from the very first second that I saw her. She captivated me like no woman ever has. Leila is different. Hot, yes, but funny too. Sassy, with a wicked smile, and a playful personality. When I took her out for that slow dance and she wrapped her slender arms around me, resting her head against my chest, I felt protectiveness rush through me. My bear was demanding we go home and make her ours right then, and maybe I should have listened to him because everything went to shit after that. Damn it, why am I even torturing myself by thinking about her again. But I can’t stop. She’s all I can think about. Her dad being Alpha Jones shouldn't matter

Chapter 5
Marcus POVThe smell of antiseptic and blood assaults my senses as soon as I enter the small single-story hospital located just outside Grey Ridge. The truck driver from a crash I was at yesterday was kept overnight for observation after getting a nasty bang on the head, so this is my first chance to interview him about what happened. I walk up to the nurse’s station to sign in, showing my credentials and getting an update on how he is before I make my way to his room. They took blood samples when he arrived, and my bet is that he was full as a tick with alcohol when he got behind the wheel. If that was the case, I was going to take great pleasure in throwing the book at him, there was little I hated more t

Chapter 6
Leila POVOh god, why did I agree to this?I know exactly why I agreed to it, because the second he touched me, any willpower I had about staying away from him for my own sanity crumbled. My wolf was thrilled, all perky for the first time in a fortnight, just happy to get to spend some time in his presence and listening to his deep voice. Nervousness creeps in at the edges of my mind and I’m struggling to stay calm. Maybe he’s worked out that he’s my mate and he’s going to reject me. I’ve sworn not to tell my family about meeting my

Chapter 7
Marcus POVSince the day Leila and I had our little walk and talk at the hospital, I’ve felt like a new man. The idea that she thought badly of me had been weighing heavily on my mind. Normally, I didn’t care whether people liked me or not, but Leila was different. I am finally able to get some sleep now that we have everything sorted out. Even though being her friend isn’t even close to what I want, it will have to do. I’ve bumped into her in town a couple of times, and again at the hospital. If it’s possible, she looks even better every time I see her. And every time we speak, I’m reminded of how clever and funny she is. My bear is even more enamored with her, and he’s

Chapter 8
Leila POV All the kids from the pack are gathered out in the backyard, sitting in a semi-circle on the lush green grass, staring up at the big hulking man perched on a stool in front of them. I can tell he’s uncomfortable, and his gaze flits up and around the adults sitting at the edges, watching. My eyes drift around my pack members, and my hackles go up when I see three women, who I know don’t have any kids, giggling as they check out my mate. His thick beard and dark hair are longer now, and it suits him. He rests his elbows on his thighs as he leans forward to speak to the children, who are hanging onto his every word. His forearms are bare, and I can see his taut muscles flexing under his tanned ski

Chapter 9
One year later Marcus POV The glimmering light flashing between the tree trunks tells me I have a visitor long before I hear the rumble of the engine. The familiar red pickup creeps up the long driveway to my cabin and music blares from inside even though it’s well past midnight. “You’re trespassing,” I call out as the driver’s door swings open and the tall wolf steps out. Ethan leans one arm on the roof of his truck and raises an eyebrow at me. “Good to see you too, neighbor,” he laughs, completely unfazed by my surly mood. I growl quietly and fix him with my most unwelcoming stare, hoping he’ll get the message and just leave. “You’re not my neighbor and I saw you in Taaffe’s a couple of hours ago. Whatever it is, it can wait till the morning.” I make no move to stand as he climbs my porch stairs and eyes the chair beside me pointedly, his way currently blocked by my feet perched on the porch railing. He smirks and raises a six-pack of beer at me as a peace offering. I would lik

Chapter 10
Leila POV The packhouse is normally a hive of activity, but today it is eerily quiet. As well as my entire family, there are anywhere between 30 to 40 wolves living there at any one time. Instead of just the Alpha’s family living there as if the norm in a lot of packs, my parents dedicated the first floor to single bedrooms for the unmated members of our pack to live in, if they want. Wolves are social animals, so we want to live in close proximity to others. The fact that our pack’s principal businesses are construction and hospitality has allowed us to pass the arrangement off to the local human population as accommodation for seasonal workers, or construction crews working away from home on projects. I creep downstairs from my apartment on the top floor and into the kitchen, raiding the fridge for leftover dessert, before heading into the communal living area. Still nobody. It doesn’t make any sense, but I’m not complaining. I fling myself onto the large sectional sofa, snag the r
