*Sophia’s POV*
I held Jack’s hand as tightly as I could, so tightly I was sure I was hurting him. “Shh Jack. It’s okay.” I whispered the words, even though I wasn’t sure they were true.
He sniffed pushed his face into my shoulder. “Where’s mummy?” His muffled voice came.
I felt like I was going to cry, but I didn’t want to scare Jack. “She will be here soon. We just have to wait.”
I’d hidden us under Jack’s bed like mummy had told me to. She’d said she would come and get us as soon as she could.
The sound of raised voices reached our ears. They were downstairs in the shop. I pulled Jack towards me, hoping to block out some of the shouting.

*Sophia’s POV*There was no way I could stay here any longer. Thale was starting to get into my head. After his insane declaration in the gardens, I had fled straight back to my room. I started to wonder if he had some sort of magic that was bewitching me. Why hadn’t I asked Danny more questions about dragons? I would not dwell on what he had said. Now I knew the truth about Danny’s intentions, I needed to get Jack out of there as soon as possible. I cursed myself for letting Danny’s charms take me in, but I still had some residual feelings for him. I reminded myself that none of what had happened between us had been real. *Sophia’s POV*Denise and Mack had roughly thrown me into the back of the van. I barely fought back. My brother’s betrayal had shaken me to the core. Mack had driven while Denise sat opposite me, staring at me with even more hatred than before. Jack had willingly got in, taking a seat next to me. He had tried to talk to me a few times on the journey back to Danny’s. He’d tried to tell me this was for the best. But I didn’t respond. Despite his decision to tell Danny where I was, I still loved my brother. It wasn’t his fault he was so desperate for this family idea Danny had fed him to become a reality. I simply sat there passively, trying to think about the danger Jack and I might be in.I was led by my arms into the town house, Danny was there waiting by the back entrance.
