Chapter 6

Selene POV

As I slipped through the portal to the mortal realm, I was careful to ensure I wasn’t followed. It had been a few days since the events of the harvest and I had been able to think of little else. Despite my best efforts my mind kept drifting back to the green-eyed wolf. I couldn’t figure out why he wasn’t affected in the same way as the other wolves. I knew I wasn’t going to get any answers in my realm, so I had to risk punishment and venture back to the mortal realm.

It was easy to find the portals that lead to Ireland. The land was coated in magic and the fabric that separated the gods from men was flimsy at best. There was once a time when the two worlds weren’t separate at all. Gods and magical beings lived amongst the mortals freely. Now there are only traces of the ancient world left here, werewolves, vampires and the occasional demon, all the species closer to humans than the gods, elves or fae.

This territory belonged to the Druid pack, that much I knew. One of the ancient packs, most connected to the old magic. And it was my hope that the green-eyed wolf was a resident, not a guest.

“We are not alone…” Liana whispered from the corners of my mind. She had been absent over the last few days. Annoyed at my obsessive thoughts of the harvest and the green-eyed wolf.

I Looked up toward the ledge that overlooked the pool that formed the entry to the portal and locked my eyes on the most spectacular black wolf. He was enormous, even for a male and he had the most distinct set of emerald green eyes.

“Well, this is interesting…”

“What is Liana?”

“It would seem this green-eyed wolf… Is our mate.”

“Our mate? Are you certain?”

“Oh yes. There is no mistaking a scent like that Selene. It is taking every ounce of my control not to fight you to take over. We must go to him…”

In a flash, I was standing before the wolf. The way his hackles stood at alert told me he was wary, and not expecting my ability to apparate.

He was even more phenomenal up close. His fur was jet black and bristled softly under the breeze. His eyes bored into me with a fierce intensity.

“Shift.” I commanded, a little more aggressively than I intended.

He took a step back and tilted his head. I took a steady breath and calmed my voice before speaking again.

“What I meant to say, was could you please shift? I believe we have much to discuss…”

I was sure I heard a groan before hearing the tell-tale crack of his bones reshaping as he took his human form.

He stood before me, spectacularly naked. He was tall and lean with muscle. The Celtic tattoos that lined his chest and shoulders indicated his status. Alpha.

As my gaze roamed up his body and finally reached his handsome face, I noticed he looked… embarrassed? Adorable, I thought to myself, and immediately chided myself. Adorable? What is wrong with me?

He cleared his throat and broke me from my stupor. How long had I been gawking at him like that?

“I don’t suppose you have any pants?”

I laughed. I couldn’t help myself. This entire scenario was the last thing I expected when I made the decision to come back here.

“I’m sorry…” I choked out between cackles. “It’s just… this is the strangest encounter I believe I’ve ever had.”

He chuckled. Covering his privates with one hand and running a hand gingerly through his ebony locks with the other.

“I can help. Take my hand and think of somewhere we will not be found… that, uh, has pants…”

I held out my hand for him. After a slight hesitation, he took my outstretched hand…
