I just watched an awful anime so you guys can learn from my mistake. It treated the maid like a prop for the main male character to develop. She had no desires of her own whatsoever. As for respect, that would mean she has her own character arc running alongside/contrasting with the romantic arc. Like, maybe she wants to leave her job as a maid and open up her own shop. The romance could complicate things for her, but her own personal mission would be just as important as the love story. Her story shouldn’t pause for the romance.
