I keep a spreadsheet for series I read, so here's the data straight from it: Terminal List, True Believer, Savage Son, Devil’s Hand, In the Blood, Only the Brave, Red Sky Mourning. Prequel: The Asset. I color-coded the prequel in yellow to remind me it's not part of the main sequence. Very satisfying.

The emotional through-line is key. Reece starts broken, then finds purpose, then builds a new life, then defends it. Each book is a step on that journey. Reading 'The Asset' first would show you a whole, unbroken man, which makes his shattering in the first book more shocking, but perhaps less emotionally immersive. You'd be observing his tragedy rather than experiencing it with him from ground zero.

Goodreads has them listed in series order, which is the publication order. That's usually the safest bet for any series unless the author explicitly says otherwise. I haven't seen Carr recommend starting with the prequel. His social media always points new readers to 'The Terminal List'. That should tell you everything you need to know.
