In What Order Should I Read The My Sister Is A Vampire Books?
Totally obsessed with these novels, but got mixed up with the release dates vs. chronological timeline. Is reading by publication order the best way to follow the story arcs?

The emotional payoff in the later books relies entirely on the groundwork of the earlier ones. A sacrifice in book seven only hits hard because of the bonding moments in books one through six. The series is an exercise in building attachment. You can’t cheat that process by jumping ahead. You have to put in the time with the characters in their simpler, earlier days to feel the impact of their more complicated, later ones. Order is everything.

What’s the worst that could happen if you read them out of order? You’d spoil major relationship developments. The will-they-won’t-they dynamics between the sisters and their various love interests progress with each book. You’d also ruin the mystery elements, like the gradual reveal of their family history. The series is constructed so that each book answers a question from the previous one while posing a new one. Break that chain, and the magic is gone.

All this order talk is making my head spin. Can't we just agree they're all good books and let people read them however they want? Gatekeeping the 'correct' order feels anti-fun.

Imagine picking up a later book and encountering a vampire council ruling or a romantic pairing that was a huge reveal two books earlier. It would completely deflate the tension and surprise of the earlier books. The series is built on small, sequential reveals about the twins’ past and their world. To preserve the intended experience, you have to encounter those reveals in the order they were written. It’s a mystery as much as a comedy-drama.

It’s a linear progression of stakes. Book one: can we be sisters despite our differences? Later books: can we protect our family from supernatural threats? The shift is gradual and earned. Skipping to the high-stakes books would make the earlier, quieter conflicts seem trivial, which they’re not. They’re the essential foundation of the relationship that makes the high-stakes moments compelling. You need the 'before' to appreciate the 'after'.

James Anderson lost his future mate and luna, Stephanie, during a rogue attack. Stephanie's death left his entire pack in mourning; her death anniversary was even declared a pack holiday.
Five years later, James discovers that Stephanie's younger sister Lily is his mate. But how can that be? Wasn't Stephanie supposed to be his mate? And would his pack even accept Lily as his mate and Luna—many have always blamed Lily for Stephanie's death, because Stephanie died trying to save Lily.
For her part, Lily has lived in the shadow of her beautiful older sister for years. She knows very well that pack members and her parents wish that it was Lily that died that day instead of Stephanie. Lily had looked forward to the day that she would meet her mate and finally feel important to someone.
Discovering that her mate is James is Lily's worst nightmare, especially when James reacts poorly to the discovery. Lily decides that she is unwilling to live in Stephanie's shadow any longer. She will not spend the rest of her life with a mate who wishes she was someone else. She rejects James, who all too quickly accepts the rejection.
Soon afterwards, horrifying truths come out and James immediately regrets letting Lily go. He sets out to get Lily back and right the wrongs that have been done. But is it too late? Will Lily find love with James, or with someone else?
" I want nothing more than to taste your sweet blood on my tongue." His breath grazed her neck, followed by the wet glide of his tongue across her skin. Kerry shuddered, imagining his fangs sinking deep, feeding on her.
"We can't do this," she whispered, her voice trembling.
"What's stopping us?"
"You're... my brother."
"And yet, you stir something in me no other woman has." He grasped her hand, guiding it to his erection pressing against her. "You're mine, baby—made just for me."
Kerry's life spirals into chaos when her mother marries a vampire. As someone who thought vampires were just myths, she struggles to accept their reality. But nothing could prepare her for her dangerously seductive new stepbrother, who seems determined to make her his. Is their bond a twist of fate, or something far darker?
My sister poisoned me. All because her mate was a pale shadow next to mine. Now, I'm back where it all began. The Mating Ceremony, five years ago.
In my last life, Sarah and I chose our mates at the Pack Alliance gala.
She chose the most powerful Alpha, the future Alliance leader, Damon. But she could never bear him a pup.
Damon despised her. He abused her. He even went feral during his curse and nearly killed her.
She shoved me toward Liam, the Alpha of a failing pack.
She never guessed Liam’s power would explode, that he’d one day tear the title of High Alpha from Damon’s grasp.
Then, on the day of Liam's coronation, Sarah poisoned me out of jealousy.
I opened my eyes again. We were back at the mate selection ceremony.
Sarah announced to everyone she was choosing Liam, and I was shoved toward her ex-mate, Damon.
But I suddenly heard her inner scream: [Die, Elena. Just die! You and that rabid wolf Damon can go to hell together. Liam will still be High Alpha, and I will be the ultimate Luna!]
But I just smirked as I stumbled into Damon’s arms.
Sarah had no idea. The “perfect mate” she’d chosen was already plotting to consume her very soul.
Don’t trust anyone, not even yourself….You think you know someone pretty well, until you’re awoken in the middle of the night to the sound of unfamiliar voices and realize your sister’s being swept away by some supernatural creatures who climb in and out of windows and leap from two-story houses like it’s nothing. My parents tried to tell me everything was fine, but when Cadence finally did come back from wherever they’d taken her, I knew there was something unusual about my older sister. Now, her best friend is dead. Her ex-boyfriend is acting bizarre. And I’m afraid I might be next.My name is Cassidy Findley, and I’m pretty sure my sister is a vampire, despite her “co-worker” making every effort to brainwash me into believing otherwise. With the help of my two best friends, we vow to get to the bottom of this before it’s too late, and my sister starts to claim other victims. I love her, but I won’t be turned, nor will I just sit by without doing everything I can to stop her. I can only hope that I’m not too late and that I can trust my own memories.Because I’m pretty sure my sister’s friends are coming for me next. The Chronicles of Cassidy is a retelling of The Clandestine Saga specifically for young adult/teen readers told from the perspective of high schooler Cassidy Findley.
In my previous life, on the day my sister and I attended the Witch Covenant's mating ceremony, I saved a fallen vampire prince.
To repay my debt, the prince, upon returning to his clan, immediately declared that I would be his future bride.
A year later, I gave birth to a pureblood heir—the only successor of the entire vampire lineage.
The prince was overjoyed. On the day of his coronation as King, he sealed a blood bond with me, declaring me his eternal companion and queen. From that moment, I was revered by all races.
My sister, meanwhile, chose a powerful werewolf Alpha, only to fade into obscurity as one among his many lovers. Her jealousy of me spiraled into madness. During a full-moon ritual held by the witches, she pushed me into an abyss, leaving me to die from the fall.
When I opened my eyes again, I saw her running toward the direction of the vampire prince's misfortune on the very day of the mating ceremony. I knew then: she, too, had been reborn.
But what she didn't realize was this—becoming the prince's bride was easy. Winning his heart, bearing his child, now that was as impossible as climbing to the heavens.
She falls for two handsome vampire brothers. Now, she must choose.... Lovers of VAMPIRE DIARIES or TRUE BLOOD will enjoy this story.
Discovering the mother that you thought was dead for over a decade is very much alive can shake your world.
Even more so would be to discover that she has become a mutant-vampire leader and has promised you in marriage to a wicked vampire king in order to unite the two kingdoms. Now, let’s combine that with the fact that the bearer of such news is a hot and sexy guy who turns out to be a vampire and he steals your heart. Then, complicate it even more with the fact that he has an equally hot vampire brother vying for your love and who you also have feelings for and you get an idea of Casey's dilemma in this sizzling, action packed first book of paranormal romance thriller trilogy.
It's not just about plot; it's about fashion evolution, too! Olivia's style and Ivy's goth look are described in detail, and they slowly start to borrow elements from each other as the series goes on. Reading in order lets you track that visual character development, which is a fun, subtle detail. In 'Switched', their styles are completely separate symbols of their worlds.
By 'Immortal Hearts', there's a noticeable blending, reflecting their fused lives. You miss that narrative-through-costume if you read haphazardly. Sometimes the simplest series have these lovely little through-lines.
If you're reading to a younger sibling or your kid, definitely go in order. The excitement of 'what happens next' is a huge part of the charm. The chapters often end on little cliffhangers that propel you right into the next book. Keeping the sequence intact preserves that magic.
I'm pretty sure this is the intended reading order for the continuity: 1. Switched, 2. Fangtastic!, 3. Re-Vamped!, 4. Vampalicious!, 5. Hollywood Secrets, 6. Love Bites, 7. Eternal Flame. Don't start with any of the 'Star Style' spinoffs first, even though they might be tempting—they assume you know the characters from the later main books. The flow makes more sense this way.
The definitive answer is five core books. The sequence goes: 'Switched' (where the human and vampire sisters meet), 'Fangtastic!' (dealing with school and fame), 'Re-Vamped!' (summer camp adventures), 'Vampalicious!' (a fashion-themed mystery), and 'Fang Me!' (the big finale). This order tracks their growing bond and the unraveling of the secret behind their separation.
Any list showing more than five is likely including the subsequent 'Star Style' series or special edition compilations. The main storyline is contained and concluded within those first five volumes, which is quite satisfying.
I've read the entire series, and I can definitively say the reading order is linear. No spin-offs. There are companion books like 'The Fangtastic Fashion Guide' or 'The Official Handbook', but these are meta, in-world joke books and style guides.
They contain no continuing fiction. You could read them at any time after you know the characters, or not at all. They're fun collectibles for fans but have zero bearing on the plot of the novels. So, for the story itself, just follow the numbers: 1. Switched, 2. New Girl, 3. The Coffin Club, and so on.
