Sabine
I shove him away and scream, desperate to escape. I tumble off the couch and scramble toward the door, but he catches up with me before I can reach it. He suddenly attacks me, and I cry out in pain. “Ahhh! What are you doing? Stay away from me!” I scream, struggling to break free. He refuses to let me go. Fear overwhelms me as I realize I may not be able to escape on my own. “Please, I’m begging you. Stop!” I plead, tears streaming down my face. At last, he steps back and sits down as if nothing has happened. He begins humming a cheerful tune, his behavior so calm that it feels more frightening than his outburst. “What’s your name?” he asks. “Isabelle,” I whisper. “I’m Daniel.” He smiles as though we have just met at a party. “I only wanted to play with you. Why are you so upset, Isabelle?” I stare at him, unable to understand how he can act as if nothing is wrong. Every instinct tells me to get away, but I am too frightened to move. “Please leave me alone,” I say quietly. Daniel tilts his head, studying me with unsettling curiosity. “Why?” he asks innocently. “Aren’t we friends?” I have never met anyone like him. His words sound harmless, but his actions tell a different story. As I search desperately for a way out, one terrifying thought takes hold of me: Daniel doesn't understand that what he is doing is wrong—and he may not stop until someone makes him.
