I couldn’t stop thinking about Felicity’s fears during training today. I hate to admit it, but I fear the same things and seeing her distraught over them creates a festering anger in my chest.
It doesn’t matter how much training you've got; someone might have more. They might be smarter, faster, better than you, but I refuse to be unprepared. I've dedicated the last few months to training long hours. Myself and my warriors.
The information that we have currently is extremely limited and I think that is the scariest part. We don’t know where they are hiding. We don’t know if they are using our kind against us; we know virtually nothing.
How am I supposed to protect my family, my fellow wolves, even myself without more to go off of? It's frustrating and the only thing that seems to take the edge off is training.
I am thankful to be supervising a group of really amazing warriors. While this issue doesn’t apply to them directly, they train just as hard. They are willing to fight with us. For us.
My team knows that I have the ability to heal them in the event that they would need it, and I think that brings relief to them.
Alpha Kai is meeting with a few of our allies, looking for anyone with information on the human hunters. We need anything that would give us the upper hand whenever they do come to find us. Or we happen to take this fight to them.
Up until recently, we were under the impression that humans were blissfully unaware of our existence. We’ve heard of people writing stories and spreading their ideas, but most call them conspiracy theorists. Occasionally, the moon goddess will pair a human with a wolf, but it is very rare, and they are sworn to secrecy upon learning about our kind.
Training has been grueling today. I’ve put my warriors through the ringer. Running and fighting in both human and wolf form.
“Could I have everyone’s attention?” I yelled over the group. Everyone crowded in front of me, sitting down from exhaustion.
“First and foremost, I can’t tell you all how proud I am of each and every one of you. We have come so far as a team. You all come here every day and give 110 percent effort. For that, I thank you.”
An eruption of cheers and claps come from the warriors. I put a hand up to silence them. After it quiets down, I begin again. “As most of you are aware, Alpha Kai is out meeting with our allies to gain any information on other wolves with special abilities as well as any information that can help us against our enemy. We have to take this threat seriously. You might think that this is a problem for only my family, but there are wolves all over the world with special abilities. This is war on our kind and we will not stand for it. I know I will not stand for it. I plan to fight. For every wolf!” I yell.
“FOR EVERY WOLF,” multiple warriors yell with their fists raised in the air.
Pride swells through me looking at my crew. These people trust me with their lives. They follow me as I lead them.
Smiling, I continue “We will continue to train as we have been until we learn new information. As always, I appreciate your support. That is it for today. You all can go home to your families.” A few more cheers erupt before the crowd starts to dissipate.
Morgan approached me after the crowd cleared. “How is Felicity?” she questioned.
Morgan is Felicity's brother's mate. She's been an amazing help to Felicity throughout her pregnancy.
I smiled “She’s doing great. Almost finished with school. Our pup is healthy and loves bacon, like her dad.”
She rolled her eyes, fighting a smile. “While I’m glad she has your love for bacon, that’s not what I meant. How is she holding up with this threat looming over?”
I took a deep breath “Honestly, I don’t know. She broke down a bit earlier thinking about everything, but overall, she has been mostly quiet about it. I think she's taking the route of ignoring it to try and avoid stress.”
Morgan furrowed her brows “You should talk to her. While I fight alongside you, this doesn’t affect me the way that it does you and Felicity. I can’t imagine what you all are going through.”
I nodded, understanding what she was saying. “I will make sure to keep a close eye on her and keep our line of communication open. She doesn’t need any stress while she’s pregnant.”
Morgan gave me a sad smile, clapping me on the back before walking away. She was right. This was stressful without a pup involved, but I need to make sure that Felicity knows that she and Lena are safe. I would lay my life down for them.
'We will keep our pup safe,' Ash, my wolf, growled with conviction.
Thinking of my beautiful mate brings me peace. I would happily give my life if it meant her and our pup were safe.
I walked slowly towards the packhouse to eat after today’s training. My mind was spinning. I just want to focus on having a happy, healthy pup and worshipping my beautiful mate.
I never imagined that one day I would be faced with someone trying to hunt me. At least not humans with ulterior motives. Being a warrior means that you are in danger at any given moment, but it's an obvious danger.
I sighed, wishing that my mother and father were still alive. While they would also be hunted, they would at least have some information on our family and our past. My mother always told me People fear what they don’t understand, but this had nothing to do with fear. This was control. They wanted to control us. Use us for monetary gain. It was sick. We are not slaves. We are just like humans in so many ways.
Opening the door to the packhouse, I’m blasted with ice cold air. After training and taking a long walk afterwards, the air feels heavenly. I’m greeted by a few omegas working in the kitchen. Two of them I recognize as mates to warriors, waving to them on my way to the refrigerators. I grabbed a bottle of water and prepackaged turkey sandwich, heading to an empty seat in the dining area.
As soon as I sat down, I received a mind link from Alpha Kai, I’ve arrived back on pack lands. Meet me at the packhouse in ten minutes to discuss my findings.
My heart started racing like an engine. The Alpha wasn’t supposed to be back for two more days. Already here, I will be waiting in your office.
I quickly scarfed down my sandwich and finished the bottle of water in a few gulps. Taking the steps two at a time, I'm unable to fight the anxiety that was forming a pit in my stomach.
I entered his office, sitting on the couch across from Kai’s desk and waiting for his arrival. I felt Ash pacing in my head. His nerves starting to make me nervous.
“Finally!” I huffed, shouting into my empty room.My paper was finished, I’d proofread it, and submitted it to my professor. If they are happy with the contents, I will be moving forward to take my exam. Then, I will officially be a teacher.I did a little happy dance, or happy wiggle, since I was sitting in the bed.Closing my laptop, I slowly climbed out of bed in desperate need of using the restroom. On my way down the hall, a swift kick to my bladder caused a warm liquid to stream down my legs. I leaned forward slightly, looking over my belly at the puddle slowly forming on the floor.I closed my eyes, slumping my shoulders. “Seriously? Girl, I was almost there. You couldn’t have waited to kick me?!” I muttered under my breath. This earned me another kick.Audibly sighing and running my hands over my face, I carefully stepped around the puddle and headed to the bathroom to grab a towel and some cleaning supplies.'This is embarrassing. I take no responsibility for you wetting your
“So, our allied packs have about nine special wolves?” I asked, shocked by the number.Kai nodded “Yes, between the five packs, they know of nine. During our meeting, we invited all nine to meet with us. Four of them were from one family. They were very cooperative and helped us with a lot of information.”Nine other wolves just in our allied packs. I never expected that. “Did we learn the abilities they possess?”Kai nodded again. “The four from the same family all of telekinetic powers. They are able to move objects with their mind. Two of the remaining five have mind reading powers. Three chose not to discuss their abilities with us out of fear.”Wow. Telekinesis and mind reading. That’s amazing.Beta Wyatt spoke up “I was just as speechless. You were a shock, but now that we know of all these other special abilities, it’s no wonder they’re hunting us.”Kai scoffed at his Beta, “Seriously, Wyatt?”He gave me an apologetic look. I just nodded, my lips forming a thin line and returni
Parker left early this morning to meet with Kai. He didn’t say what it was about, but I presume it has something to do with Blue Lake. Reaching over, I grab my laptop from the end table. My nerves have been going haywire ever since I submitted my assignment. After logging in, I notice that I have a message from the teacher.“I got a perfect score on my paper!” I squeal. I can’t wait to tell Parker. I put a lot of thought into my writing. They loved everything that I came up with about the struggles of our young wolves in today’s society. I felt like the research really opened my eyes and I plan on applying what I’ve learned in the classroom. Now, if I can pass my exams, I will officially be a teacher!I look down at my round belly, rubbing gently while I speak, “Today’s going to be a good day, little peanut. I just know it,” I feel her flutter around in my stomach, surely doing little somersaults.'She’s almost ready to come out, I can sense it,' Iris whispers.I smile. I can’t wait t
I watched as Felicity’s figure disappeared into the Earth. My heart ached the further the plane ascended into the air. We had an amazing night, but this trip will be the longest we’ve spent apart since meeting. Even in the beginning, it was if there was a magnet pulling us together. After we made love last night, I stayed awake watching her sleep. It’s been a while since I’ve struggled to sleep while holding her. I memorized every feature on her face. The light freckles that dotted her cheeks. Her beautiful, long lashes. The slight roundness to the tip of her nose. I listened to the sound of her breathing, watching her chest rise and fall with each breath. The wild curliness of her deep, auburn hair. I gently kissed her belly, letting Helena know that I would be back soon, and to take care of mommy while I was gone. Sometimes I had to remind myself to cherish her. I get so wrapped up in the idea of saving them, that I forget my mate needs me. “She on your mind?” Kai questioned,
I’ve been keeping tabs on both Parker and Felicity for the last six months. She sent me here to reprogram the safe room and watch Felicity as her pregnancy progressed as well as keep a close eye on Parker. He's the one she wants. The moment she found out that he was still alive, it became an obsession to obtain him for the collection. She has a future teller already, so Felicity is just a bonus to her. Parker is the real goal. Healers are the most sought after blessed creature in the world. Their powers go beyond anything known by man. The thought of bringing a person back to life after death is the making of a good zombie horror movie, but not a reality that many know about. Parker's abilities are unrivaled, and Elenore knows what's at stake if she doesn't 'collect' him. I’m shocked at how little foot traffic comes through the woods just outside of Twilight Woods borders. I found a quaint deserted cabin in between two territories and have been staying here while I complete my
This is the most beautiful lake I’ve ever seen, and it doesn’t even come close to your beauty. Sleep tight my love. I will be home soon. I felt tears stinging my eyes. Parker was so sweet. I looked at the picture that he sent me and I was in awe at how stunning the lake was. The moon lit up the lake, showing the expansive landscape around it. Even in the night, you could see the beautiful blue hue of the water. Maybe one day, we will be able to see it together. Tonight will be the first night I’ve spent away from Parker in a long time. In the beginning of our relationship, he did a lot of night shifts to earn his place with the warriors. Since I’ve been pregnant though, he’s spent every night with me, refusing to allow me to sleep alone. I stared at the picture that he sent me, imagining how much more beautiful it must look in person. You are the sweetest. Send me a picture in day light. I love you so much. I set my phone on the nightstand and tried to get comfortable. My gro
Felicity’s fear woke me from a deep sleep. I could feel her pain and anguish through our bond. When I called her, she sounded broken, which pulled on my heartstrings. ‘Our mate needs us’ Ash whined in my head. I wished I could be there, holding her right now. I was kicking myself for leaving right now. Was the distance causing her nightmares? If I was home, I'd be able to soothe her with our bond. Instead, I'm stuck thousands of miles away. I pick my phone back up, sending a quick text Why don’t you spend the day with Cami? I will call and arrange a spa day so you two can relax. Love you so much. Try not to stress too much, it was only a nightmare. I set an alarm for nine am to call the spa and arrange for them both to have the total pregnancy package. I know at a certain point in the pregnancy, not all services are safe for the momma and pup. Something I read about in one of the books Cami insisted I read. She'd said I was an ignorant brute after a night out. My phone vibr
“Oh my goddess girl, I needed this. Please thank Parker for setting this up,” Cami moaned as the woman giving her a massage kneaded her lower back. I have to say, I one hundred percent agreed. The woman that has been massaging my shoulders and neck is a miracle worker. Cami was still able to get full body massage where I was far to pregnant. “I am definitely not complaining. This feels amazing.” Cami turned her head towards me, “How are you feeling?” Large, swollen, tired, “Kind of all over the place. Ready to meet our pup. Afraid that I’m not going to be the mom she deserves. The last few days have been a little harder with Parker leaving.” She pouted her bottom lip, giving me a sad look. “Girl, I’m missing Kai so f*cking much. I can’t imagine being nearly five months pregnant and him leaving. I think I’d chain him in the dungeons, though a part of me thinks he might enjoy that,” she winked. That earned a laugh from everyone in the room. “Cami, I swear I hear way more tha
