Camela's POV
"How could you lose your job? What did you do?" My stepfather, Sean, screamed as I walked into the house.
"I did nothing. Joe's been losing customers and can't afford to pay me anymore," I replied.
I placed my purse on the coffee table and sat on the couch.
I didn't want to listen to him screaming at me. I was already upset that Joe's Diner, the place I had been working at for about a year, was going bankrupt. A new diner opened around the corner a month ago called Blaire's Diner. Everyone started going there instead of Joe's because they have more up-to-date games. Joe's had the old arcade games like Pacman, while Blaire's had bowling, laser tag, games with tickets, and go-carts.
"Well, I will not take care of you. You are not my responsibility. So you better find another job!" He snarled.
I looked over at the kitchen and saw my three-year-old brother Liam crying. He must have gotten scared of all the screaming.
"Shut him up," Sean screamed and went to his room.
I picked up my brother and helped him until he calmed down.
"It's okay, baby," I soothed.
Once he calmed down, I took him back into the kitchen and sat him on a chair. I took out ingredients to make spaghetti and started cooking. Once I was done, I made Liam and myself a plate. Sean came into the kitchen a moment later.
"I need to talk to you,"
I stood out of my seat and walked into the living room with him. We sat opposite each other and waited for him to speak.
"I'm going to get straight to the point. I am not happy here. I have been going through a lot since your mother died three weeks ago. This is not working out. I will move out by the end of tonight," He said.
I couldn't help but stare at him. How dare he bring up my mother's death? My mom was murdered while walking home from work around midnight. Sean was supposed to pick her up but decided he didn't feel like it. She was shot to death.
I didn't care if Sean stayed or went. I only cared about my brother, Liam. Sean was his father, which was the only reason I let him stay here after my mother's death. She had left me at the house, and I would have gotten rid of Sean long ago if I weren't afraid he would take Liam from me.
"What about Liam? I want to be in his life," I said, and he started laughing.
"I never wanted Liam. I told your mother to get an abortion, but she was too stubborn to listen. You can keep him because I don't want him. Place him in foster care or whatever you want," He said.
It pissed me at his words. If Liam weren't in the kitchen eating, I would hit him up in the head with something.
"Well, then you should go," I said and went back into the kitchen with Liam.
About ten minutes later, there was a knock at the door. Sean went and answered it. When I looked over, I saw a woman in her early forties with long blond hair and brown eyes. He kissed her on the lips quickly.
I couldn't believe he had some woman come pick him up. My mother hadn't been gone for a month, and he had already moved on. I would have been shocked if he had been seeing her while my mom was still alive.
"I will be out in a minute, babe. Wait for me in the car," Sean said, and she went back to the car.
He picked up two bags and looked at me.
"I will not be coming back," He said and walked out the door
I took Liam to his room once. He wasn't eating his dinner. He played with his toys for a while, and then I got him ready for bed. I placed him in bed, and he went to sleep.
I went into the living room and thought about everything that had happened today. It was a lot to process my losing my job and Sean moving away.
My phone rang, and I answered it. It was my best friend, Tiara.
"Hey, T," I said. I knew I sounded worried.
"What's wrong, Cami? Are you okay?" she asked.
"I lost my job today, and Sean moved out," I said, and she let out a gasp
"Did he say you can see Liam?"
"He didn't take Liam. He said he never wanted him in the first place,"
"That's good! What are you going to do about a job?"
"I'm gonna start looking tomorrow," I said
"I almost forgot. This morning I went past Mitchell's Inc, and they are having open interviews for an assistant tomorrow morning. You should go," she said.
"Yeah, right T! I am not qualified to work for Mitchell's Inc," I replied
"Says who? I am about to look it up now," she said, and I heard her typing on her computer.
"Open Interviews, Admin Assistant, the duties are filling charts, scheduling appointments, taking notes at meetings, answering phones, etc. You must have a High School Diploma. I think you are qualified," she said
"There will be people there that are way more qualified than I am. It would be a waste of time, and what about Liam?" I asked.
"I will come early in the morning to watch Liam tomorrow. That way, you can make it to your interview. I also think now that Sean is gone, I should move in, as we talked about before. I could help you with Liam. This job is from 9 AM to 5 PM, which would be great for you. I work nights at the club, so I could stay with him while you are at work."
Everything she said sounded great. I didn't think I would get the job, but it wouldn't help to try. Even if I didn't get this one, I was sure I would find a server job somewhere.
"That sounds good, Tiara, and I think it would be a good idea for you to move in," I said, and she squealed.
"Yes! I have wanted to move out of my parent's house for a long time," she said, and I couldn't help but smile.
"Then it's settled. See you in the morning," I said, and we hung up the phone.
I knew I shouldn't have felt hopeful, but I felt like my life was going to change for the better tomorrow.
Camela's POV A knock on the door woke me from my sleep. "Why is someone knocking this early in the morning," I thought, and then I remembered Tiara was supposed to come over early so I could go to the interview. I looked at the clock on my end table and saw it was 7:30 AM. "Shit," I said and hurried to the front door. "It's about time! I have been knocking for about twenty minutes," She said as she walked in. "Sorry! I overslept. I have to get ready for the interview." "Yeah! Hurry. They start in less than thirty minutes," She said, and I rushed to the bathroom. I jumped in the shower and washed quickly. I put my clothes on, brushed my long, black hair into a ponytail, and brushed my teeth. I put lotion on my light brown skin so I wouldn't be ashy and walked out of the bathroom. I grabbed my purse out of my room and walked to the front door. Tiara had just come in the door with a suitcase in her hand. I saw other bags she had brought in while I was in the bathroom. "I wil
Blake's POV "We will call you if you are chosen," I said to the lady sitting across from me. I was definitely not choosing her. She didn't even have any experience being an Administrative Assistant. "Thanks, sir," She said and walked out. How's it going? My cousin James asked as he came into my office. "These people have no idea how to be an assistant. Who thought it would be smart to have open interviews? They should be fired," I said and rubbed my hair with my hands out of frustration. "You have a good time with that girl you brought home last night?" James asked "You know I did, and I didn't bring one girl home; I brought three," I said with a smirk. Being the CEO of Mitchell's Enterprise and owning a lot more businesses made all the girls run to me. Not to mention the fact that I was a Mitchell myself. We were the wealthiest people in Illinois. We had billions of dollars. "Well, good luck with your interviews," James said and opened the door Ciara, one of my front r
Camela's POV"What are you going to wear tomorrow to see Mr. CEO," Tia asked"I was thinking I would wear my blue suit with a white shirt underneath.""You should wear something shorter," She said "Why would I do that?""Because you have a hot CEO that is attracted to you." "No, he's not," I replied shocked that she would think that"He called you personally after you screamed at him in his office. You even declined the job at first. Why would he go through all the trouble if he doesn't have a thing for you?" She asked"He might feel I am the best qualified for the position,""Yeah right! You and I both know that there were a lot of people there that were more qualified. You have never been an Admin Assistant," She said and I knew she was rightWhy would he want me as his Assistant? He had told me he had already found the person that was fit for the job. He didn't even interview me. I was beginning to think it would be a bad idea to show up in the morning."Maybe I shouldn't go," I
"I have a younger brother that I am responsible for. He will come with me if I move because I am all he has left. My best friend lives with us too. She will be the one that babysits him for me when I am at work. I don't know if other people are allowed to move into the homes that the company provides," I said "You are allowed to bring family to the home, and your friend will also be able to come. A daycare is nearby just in case you would like to look into it. Do you accept my offer, Miss. Davis," "Yes," Camela's POV "Great! "Let's go," Mr. Mitchell said. "Where are we going?" I asked, confused. "I want to show you your new house, and you need to get a car," he explained. I got to my feet and followed him out of his office. A woman with blond hair approached him, smiling. She dressed in a short dress that made her look like she was going to a club rather than work. She yanked his tie and leaned her body on his. I could feel myself becoming annoyed by how close she was to h
Camela's POV"This is way too much, Mr. Mitchell," I said, pushing the cartWhile we were on our way to the car lot, Mr. Mitchell decided to stop at Target. Saying that, I needed some stuff for the new house."No, it's not. You and Liam need new things for your new home," He said"Don't you think it is inappropriate for you to be shopping with me?" I asked"No, I don't see how that is inappropriate," He said"Mr. Mitchell," I started but was cut off"There is nothing wrong with me taking you to the store and helping you pick out a few items for your new home. After this, we still have to pick out your car," He said"But you are my boss," He said"Exactly, I am the boss, and what I say goes. So don't worry about anyone else. They won't say anything to disrespect you, or they will have to deal with me," he said. I could tell that he was serious."And the name is Blake,""Excuse me,""My name is Blake. Enough of that, Mr. Mitchell nonsense. You don't ever have to call me that," He saidI
Camela's POV"What would you like to eat, Liam," Blake askedHe had taken us to the fair since it was that time of the year."I'm not hungry. I want to play," Liam said, causing me to smile"Okay, let us go play them. We will be back, ladies," Blake said as he took him over to one of the kiddie rides"You are so lucky," Tiara said"What are you talking about?" I asked "You know what I am talking about, Cami. That hot CEO billionaire has the hots for you," She said"No, he doesn't. He is my boss and is friendly,""You and I both know that is a bunch of bullshit. I think he likes you more than likes you," She said."He hardly knows me. How can he more than like me?" I asked"I don't know, but I am telling you that he does," She said We sat for a while until Blake returned to our table with Liam. He had a big bag of blue cotton candy. "Liam, you are going to be sticky now. Let me see," I said and took the bag away from him."I think your sister is right, little man. You need to eat so
Camela's POV"How do I look?" I asked Tiara as I made my way into the kitchen."Better than the outfit you had on yesterday. I still think you can lose a few inches of your skirt. You do have a CEO boyfriend," She said with a smirk on her face."He is not my boyfriend. He is my boss," I said"For now," she replied"I have to go to work. See you later," I said and kissed Liam on his cheek."Bye, Liam," I said and headed outside. When I got outside, I was surprised to see a Limo parked in my driveway. Two men that looked like security guards were standing outside of the Limo. The driver stepped out of the driver's seat when I walked out. I remembered him from one of the men that worked for Blake."Ms. Davis, Mr. Mitchell sent me to pick you up for work," He said "That is unnecessary. I can drive myself to work," I said"I am sorry, mam, bosses orders," He saidI picked up my phone and called Blake. He had saved his number on my phone earlier when we were at Target shopping yesterday.
Blake's POV"Have a seat," I told Camela as we arrived at my office. She seemed to hesitate but finally sat on the chair across from me. I noticed that she wouldn't look at me. Instead, she kept looking everywhere but in my direction. I put my hand on hers and could feel that warm feeling that I only think from her touch."I am sorry about what happened out there. I promise it won't happen again," I said, and she looked at me."You have nothing to apologize to me for, Mr. Mitchell. I just work for you," She said"That is not true, and you know it," I said"What do you mean?" She asked "There is something that I need to tell you. It may sound crazy, but I promise it is all true," I said, looking deep into her eye."I'm listening," She said, staring back at me."Well, there is a myth in my family. Everyone in my family will receive a soulmate one day," I said, and she looked at me, confused."Okay, a myth about soulmates. What does that mean that you all find your true love or somethin
