“Let’s get a divorce, Renee.”

The man’s cold voice sounded from behind while Renee Everheart was in the middle of searing steaks. After hearing those words, she became seemingly numb to the hot oil splattering on her cheeks from the lightly sizzling pan.

“We’re only husband and wife on paper. Now that four years have passed, it’s time to end this,” Stefan Hunt said with a cold, distant tone.

Renee bit her lip anxiously.

‘Looks like this day was inevitable after all…’

Her family was declared bankrupt four years ago. Her parents, unable to endure the stress of financial hardship, took their lives together, leaving young Renee to handle the mess alone.

In the past, Renee’s grandfather fought alongside Stefan’s grandfather on the battlefield, and he even saved the latter’s life once. In his dying moments, he voiced out to his old pal his concern for his granddaughter and left Renee under his care.

And so, a marriage of convenience was arranged between Stefan and Renee to put the old man’s concerns to rest.

As time passed, Renee found herself falling in love with the man she married. She thought that as long as she played the role of a good wife, he would reciprocate her feelings one day.

However, what transpired was the complete opposite of what she had hoped for.

“I’ll give you 40 million dollars and a penthouse at Long Beach. Here are the divorce papers. Sign them if you have no objections.”

Stefan then pushed a document towards Renee. His stern expression indicated that this was no more than another business transaction to him.

Renee skimmed through the string of numbers.

‘40 million dollars for four years, huh? The Hunts are still as wealthy as ever,’ she thought to herself.

“Do we have to?” She put down the document and stared at her husband.

The man she had loved for four years was drop-dead gorgeous, yet his beautiful face was always stern and distant.

“Yes,” Stefan replied without a hint of hesitation.

Renee’s heart stung, but she was not one to drag things out. As her objections had fallen on deaf ears, she knew it was time for her to go.

‘Whatever, I got 40 million for the years I’ve spent being his wife. This is more than worth it!’

“Alright.” She picked up a pen and scribbled her signature on the papers decisively.

Stefan was taken aback by her resoluteness. The Renee he knew was fragile and indecisive, and he had never seen this side of her.

For some reason, this left a sour taste in his mouth.

“I’ll let you know once this is processed. If it’s possible, I’d like you to move out by tonight.” The man said, brushing off the unpleasant feeling in his chest before leaving.

It was painfully obvious that he didn’t intend on discussing the matter over.

On the very same night, the housekeeper immediately threw Renee’s belongings out of the villa after receiving news of the divorce. It wasn’t like she respected Renee back then, but now that they were officially separating, she became openly hostile.

“Serves you right, you gold-digging leech! It’s about time they decided to kick you out!”

Renee had no choice but to crouch down and pick her scattered clothing up. The cold night breeze only served to rub salt in her wound.

Just then, she heard the sound of a car rolling to a stop behind her. A tall slender woman emerged from the vehicle.

“Ms. Desrosiers, you’re here! Welcome, welcome!” The housekeeper, who was just yelling profanities at Renee, immediately jumped to the guest’s assistance.

However, Briar Desrosiers didn’t even bother to spare the housekeeper a glance. “Be careful with my belongings. If you break even a single thing, you wouldn’t be able to pay it back within a lifetime.”

Renee’s entire body stiffened up. In mere seconds, the pieces fell into place in her mind.

A tense atmosphere gripped them. Renee and Timothy had always been close, like grandfather and granddaughter. Their relationship had been warm and sincere from the moment Renee married Stefan until now.Renee had never offended Timothy. Similarly, Timothy had never said anything harsh wot Renee. But now, they became displeased with each other because of an infamous Austin. Timothy became very disappointed and found it unacceptable."I'm sorry, Grandpa. Maybe you won't believe me. But I'd never blamed any member of your family, including Stefan," Renee calmly expressed herself. "I feel that there's no right or wrong regarding the conflicts between me and your family in the past. We just shared different thoughts, and I had long forgotten them. I hope you won't feel guilty toward me. It'll only stress me out.""Have you really forgotten about them?" For the first time, Timothy felt that she had changed. She had grown mature and sensible. She would not be melancholic for a man o

"You're bewitched by that old man! He's murderous and has killed a lot of people. How could you find him a good person?"Timothy used to dote on Renee and take pride in her. Unexpectedly, a wicked demon had easily bribed her.On the one hand, he was angry at Austin for being that cunning. On the other hand, he was angry at Renee for being dumb and failed to differentiate between good and bad. "Calm down, Grandpa. These are trivial things. It's my opinion whether I find someone good or bad. It isn't important." Renee did not anticipate Timothy caring so much about that. She regretted being that honest. "No, it's important. I've always seen you as my granddaughter-in-law. Plus, you're the mother of my great-grandkids. Your opinions will now shape their characters. I must pay attention to that."Timothy had always been an amiable and tolerant person, but he became solemn and particular when it came to the Austin family. He was different from his usual self. Renee spread her han

Initially, Renee had doubted whether the Baldwin family was the mastermind behind her family's bankruptcy back then. But all this while, she failed to find any relevant evidence, no matter how hard she tried.Besides, Justin's family regarded her as family even though she had repeatedly stood them up and humiliated them. But they had never made things difficult for her. Gradually, she stopped doubting them. Surprisingly, Timothy told her the news. It made her waver again. "Grandpa, it sounds like you're aware of some inside story." Renee leaned forward and wanted to get to the bottom of it."No, I don't, but it's that old man's style. He'll never show mercy to his enemies he faces at the battlefield or the people who always stand against him!"At that point, Timothy became angry but melancholic. "Your grandpa and I decisively stopped being friends with him because he was too stubborn and cruel. Many people ended miserably because of this. But he's always held a grudge agains

Adie paused and said enthusiastically, "Great Grandpa, I heard that you were a soldier. Did you ever fight in a war?""Of course!" Timothy did not anticipate such a question from Adie. It was what he wanted to hear. He proudly talked about the unforgettable memories he had during wartime."When I was young, I was a great fighter. The things you see in films are nothing compared to what I'd experienced back then."Adie raised another question. "You're amazing, Great Grandpa! Did you ever fight the Oswians?" "Well, I didn't. They were gone at that time. But the people I fought were no different than the Oswians. They were bad people. I'd joined many wars and was never defeated. Plus, I still keep the medals with me. Let me show you!"Timothy could not stop reminiscing magnificent days. He went to the cabinet to fish out the medals and certificates he had kept for so many years. The two children were overjoyed when Timothy fished those things out. They held the medals and put them

Abby's blessing shocked Renee and Timothy. They were happy and amused."Haha! What a good kid you are! I'm moved to see you care so much about me!" Timothy accepted the knit sunflower from Abby, feeling warm.On the other hand, Renee touched her forehead and felt embarrassed. "Where did you learn that from, Abby? You said such sweet words.""I learned it from Daddy," Abby answered honestly."Your daddy?" Renee was surprised and wondered when Stefan had taught her that. However, Timothy was not surprised. He chuckled and said, "Yeah, she sounded serious like Stef. But he'd only make me mad if he talked like this. It's different with Abby. I love what you said very much!"Timothy sincerely liked them. Hence, he was nicer to Stefan because of it."Stef is so lucky to have these two treasures. Unfortunately, he's ungrateful and did such a bad thing. I'm sure he needs some beating!"Timothy got angry again when he recalled how Renee and Stefan's family was separated. Hence, the two

The study of Hunt Manor came with good sunlight.Timothy was sitting in a rocking chair, reading a book seriously, wearing a pair of reading glasses.Renee saw that scene when she entered the study with the two children. Hence, she hurriedly gave them some advice. "Look, Adie, Abby. He's still reading books at this age. We must never stop learning. So, you should see him as your role model. Do you understand?""Mm!" Abby nodded obediently. "Great Grandpa is well-read. There's nothing he doesn't know. I'll take him as my role model and be a child who loves reading." "What a good girl you are, Abby!" Gratified, Renee touched Abby's head and felt quite satisfied with her good and sweet daughter. Abby always made her happy."Oh, I'm so happy to see you guys." Timothy smiled and nudged his glasses. After that, he seriously said to the children, "I love reading books, including classics, ancient prose, foreign classics, and historical books. I love such books. Plus, I'm well-read j
