Chapter 1

“Let’s get a divorce, Renee.”

The man’s cold voice sounded from behind while Renee Everheart was in the middle of searing steaks. After hearing those words, she became seemingly numb to the hot oil splattering on her cheeks from the lightly sizzling pan.

“We’re only husband and wife on paper. Now that four years have passed, it’s time to end this,” Stefan Hunt said with a cold, distant tone.

Renee bit her lip anxiously.

‘Looks like this day was inevitable after all…’

Her family was declared bankrupt four years ago. Her parents, unable to endure the stress of financial hardship, took their lives together, leaving young Renee to handle the mess alone.

In the past, Renee’s grandfather fought alongside Stefan’s grandfather on the battlefield, and he even saved the latter’s life once. In his dying moments, he voiced out to his old pal his concern for his granddaughter and left Renee under his care.

And so, a marriage of convenience was arranged between Stefan and Renee to put the old man’s concerns to rest.

As time passed, Renee found herself falling in love with the man she married. She thought that as long as she played the role of a good wife, he would reciprocate her feelings one day.

However, what transpired was the complete opposite of what she had hoped for.

“I’ll give you 40 million dollars and a penthouse at Long Beach. Here are the divorce papers. Sign them if you have no objections.”

Stefan then pushed a document towards Renee. His stern expression indicated that this was no more than another business transaction to him.

Renee skimmed through the string of numbers.

‘40 million dollars for four years, huh? The Hunts are still as wealthy as ever,’ she thought to herself.

“Do we have to?” She put down the document and stared at her husband.

The man she had loved for four years was drop-dead gorgeous, yet his beautiful face was always stern and distant.

“Yes,” Stefan replied without a hint of hesitation.

Renee’s heart stung, but she was not one to drag things out. As her objections had fallen on deaf ears, she knew it was time for her to go.

‘Whatever, I got 40 million for the years I’ve spent being his wife. This is more than worth it!’

“Alright.” She picked up a pen and scribbled her signature on the papers decisively.

Stefan was taken aback by her resoluteness. The Renee he knew was fragile and indecisive, and he had never seen this side of her.

For some reason, this left a sour taste in his mouth.

“I’ll let you know once this is processed. If it’s possible, I’d like you to move out by tonight.” The man said, brushing off the unpleasant feeling in his chest before leaving.

It was painfully obvious that he didn’t intend on discussing the matter over.

On the very same night, the housekeeper immediately threw Renee’s belongings out of the villa after receiving news of the divorce. It wasn’t like she respected Renee back then, but now that they were officially separating, she became openly hostile.

“Serves you right, you gold-digging leech! It’s about time they decided to kick you out!”

Renee had no choice but to crouch down and pick her scattered clothing up. The cold night breeze only served to rub salt in her wound.

Just then, she heard the sound of a car rolling to a stop behind her. A tall slender woman emerged from the vehicle.

“Ms. Desrosiers, you’re here! Welcome, welcome!” The housekeeper, who was just yelling profanities at Renee, immediately jumped to the guest’s assistance.

However, Briar Desrosiers didn’t even bother to spare the housekeeper a glance. “Be careful with my belongings. If you break even a single thing, you wouldn’t be able to pay it back within a lifetime.”

Renee’s entire body stiffened up. In mere seconds, the pieces fell into place in her mind.

  • The Untouchable Ex-Wife   Chapter 2699

Words like that could melt even the coldest heart.Steve, meanwhile, lit up with pure gossip-fueled delight and teased shamelessly, "Well now, who would’ve thought? The young Jovan, who's rumored to be a notorious playboy, turns out to be a hopeless romantic. Come on, spill the beans. Who exactly is this angel you’re so devoted to?"The question instantly made the atmosphere awkward.Everyone present, except Steve himself, knew perfectly well who Jovan’s so-called angel was.In fact, Steve had probably heard some rumors, too. It was just that, according to his worldview, they were a little too outrageous to believe outright. That was why he threw out the question to test whether his suspicions were true. However, the question was left hanging.Even Xavier, who was usually loose-lipped, had effectively sealed his mouth shut and didn’t dare comment. An eerie silence fell over the lakeside.Renee, Stefan, and Jovan sat in a neat row as if they had rehearsed it. Their movements wer

The moment Renee and Stefan’s eyes met, she froze and couldn't move at all.Only three words came to mind. This is ruined. What was supposed to be a fishing game meant to pull Steve into her net now felt like a disaster in the making. She even had the uneasy feeling that Jovan, the fish that was already practically on the hook, might slip away too.As for Leia, the second she spotted Xavier, her mindset shifted entirely.A moment ago, she had been a carefree spectator, perfectly in sync with Renee. Now, she only wanted to disappear. After all, she and Xavier had just broken up. Being dragged into a situation where sides had to be chosen was deeply uncomfortable. It made her feel restless, awkward, and desperate to crawl into a hole."Well, well. Mr. Hunt’s here. Mr. Stuart's here too. It's really lively here today. Come on. There’s an open spot right here."Jovan casually pointed to the space beside him.It was the gap between him and Renee. It wasn't wide, but it could fit t

Steve was a smart man. He obviously understood Jovan’s invitation.Still, he didn’t state his position right away. Instead, he set up his own fishing spot not far from Renee and Jovan."There really are plenty of fish in this lake. Every time I come here, I reel in some big ones. I’m the type who knows how to be grateful. Back when this place wasn’t famous yet, the first person who brought me here was the current head of Hunt Enterprise, Master Hunt himself. So naturally, I stick with him and keep fishing for the big catch," Steve said. After setting up his gear, Steve had made his stance perfectly clear.Renee was reluctant to give up and decided to push back. "Mr. Warren, that sounds a bit exaggerated. Fish are gifts from nature. What does gratitude have to do with it? Even if Master Hunt hadn’t brought you here back then, someone else would have eventually. I think whoever helps you catch more fish is the real benefactor. Don’t you agree?"Steve baited his hook, cast his line

Renee showed a knowing smile, and there was a determined look in her eyes. "Of course. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have come to fish today."The moment she finished speaking, both her and Jovan’s bobbers twitched.Leia opened her eyes wide. She waved at the two urgently. "Hey, hey, quick! Both of you, your fish took the bait!"At the same time, Renee and Jovan reeled in their lines. Both of them landed a fish, and they were about the same size too."Wow, that’s incredible. You both caught one. And especially you, Mr. Hunt. You didn’t even use bait and still caught a fish. You’re basically a modern-day fishing legend!""Miracles can happen if one has solid faith."After he spoke, he carefully unhooked the fish, bent down, and casually released it back into the water. For a split second, even Leia found herself a little captivated by this man who felt both righteous and dangerous at the same time.Renee watched Jovan in silence for two seconds. She also released her fish and said, "You

Renee wasn't dumb. There was no way she couldn't hear the subtext in Jovan's words. She just didn't believe he was as noble as he made himself out to be, willing to bite a hook with no bait out of pure devotion."Any living thing makes choices based on what it wants. It's just that some motives look plain, while others seem lofty. In truth, they all come from the same deepest desires. There's no real difference."Her tone was calm and unruffled, as still as the lake in front of them.Jovan froze for a second. He then nodded in agreement. "Sharp as always, Sis. Everything in this world is an equal exchange. No one is more righteous than anyone else.""Hey, are you two here to fish, or to teach a philosophy class? All this talk is impossible to follow. Can't you make it simpler?" Leia finally couldn't take it anymore and covered her ears. There was nothing she could do. Talking to smart people was exhausting. Miss one beat, and you were lost. Listening to them was tiring, but sayin

By the time Renee and Leia arrived at the lake, Jovan was already there. He had always had a wide range of interests, and fishing was something he'd picked up recently. Not only was his gear fully stocked, but he had even chummed the water early, picked out a flat spot, and set up a tent. He was clearly planning to settle in for the long haul."Wow, Jovan, not bad. This looks like a professional set-up. You must be a veteran."Leia couldn't resist teasing him as she looked at the rows of fishing rods laid out in front of him. They were all of different models and sizes."I'm not a veteran. I just take things more seriously."Jovan sat calmly on a small folding stool and watched the lake. He turned around to smile at the two women who had arrived late, but his gaze naturally landed on Renee. There was something loaded in his tone as he added, "When it comes to getting what I want, I don't miss."Almost as soon as he finished speaking, the float bobbed. He reeled it in smoothly,
