CHAPTER 2: UGLY

Juanita’s life changed forever and that could be seen by how people looked at her with scorn, pity, and disgust whenever they looked at her face. Thanks to the fire, Juanita received burns she failed to get rid of. For a girl, her face was everything and yet Juanita’s face was simply too scary to look at. There was no money for her to get surgery and get rid of the burn scars on her face, neck, and some parts of her body. The money that was needed was simply too much and her family couldn’t even afford it. Her family tried their best to make sure that she was in the best condition and she was very grateful for that. Even though her face wasn’t likable and she didn’t make many friends because of that, she was a studious person and managed to win scholarships which lessened the financial burden on her family. At her age, she was supposed to be doing some part-time jobs and

CHAPTER 3: IT’S OVER

It wasn’t easy working at a slightly bigger company as many eyes were always on her but she didn’t bother about them and concentrated on her job. But life is not fair at all, she wasn’t treated well at all but she kept on hanging there as leaving the job there will just be the end of her. She didn’t want to go back to her town and work there, those people there were simply hateful and she didn’t want to face their scornful eyes daily and watch as her parents suffer in agony because of it. On this particular day, Juanita woke up and rubbed her eyes as she yawned. She was so sleepy as she slept late, it was a Friday and yet it felt as if it was a Monday. Her superiors gave her too much yesterday and she failed to finish it even at work, so she was forced to bring the work back to her one-room apartment. Juanita worked on it, fighting so hard to take a nap until it was around three in the morni

CHAPTER 4: FISHY ADVERT

She looked at the gloating expression of her manager and laughed sadly, “since this is what the company had decided then I will oblige.” The manager couldn’t believe what she was hearing, she thought that Juanita will lose her cool and throw a tantrum, and then she as a manager will use her authority to have Juanita thrown out of the company in an embarrassing matter. “Hehhh!” “I will go and clean my desk and stop by the H.R to collect what I was promised,” Juanita said in a low voice as she stood up. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to fight but she was just too tired, she was so sleepy and dighting wouldn’t give her any benefits at all. At least they were giving her three months’ worth of salary otherwise she didn’t know what she will do after this. The manager watched as Juanita left her office without causi

CHAPTER 5: OPENED GATES

Since this flyer followed her here maybe it was for a reason, she reasoned with herself as she sat back on the bed. “Since you followed me all the way here, I will ready you and see what is so important that you stuck onto me like a leech,” she said to herself as she looked intently at the flyer. She began to concentrate as she read the flyer and what she saw made her laugh with so much sarcasm, she wanted to kill somebody. “Have you ever wondered why you are so different? Why everyone looks at you as if you don’t belong? Don’t fret the chosen one, you were born for greatness and this is your time to shine. Click onto this web and take this chance to change your fate and destiny! You only have twenty-four hours………contact @ *********” This was simply BS and Juanita wasn’t buying it anymore. On this day, she had gone through so much she fel

CHAPTER 6: FAMILY FARM

Juanita was still in shock and thinking that she had seen wrong, she read the contents repeatedly until she was convinced that everything was real. She dismissed the email and a menu icon popped up again. Since everything was real and this was a treasure to her and she was the owner of this place, Juanita was now calm. There was no way that she had been abducted since she could get here, it also meant that there was a way for her to go back to her house again. She began to look into the menu icon to see what more this screen could do. Juanita read everything she could and the more she learned about this farm, the happier she was. This was the best thing that happened to her ever. She no longer felt sad about being fired and her day going wrong. If all of that had not happened, how was she supposed to encounter such a miracle? Juanita learned that the farm was special and so good. She didn’t nee

CHAPTER 7: HAPPINESS

Juanita was in a good mood after eating her food, she washed the plates quickly and dried them before putting them back into the old, blue kitchen unit that was on the verge of falling apart. She went to the bathroom and bent down to do some laundry. It was good that the clothes were not a lot and after all that soaking, the clothes were clean so all she had to do was rub and rub and then rinse them. She was done in less than an hour and she went outside to hang her clothes. Looking at the bright sun outside, she was in a good mood. It was spring and the price of fresh produce was high. And thinking of selling her goodies in the future, Juanita happily hummed a tune as she returned inside the house. The neighbor who had come out to throw some trash, couldn’t help but look at Juanita with a strange light in her eyes. “What is wrong with that girl?” she wondered but brushed it aside a

CHAPTER 8: A NEW CHAPTER

Juanita spent the remaining days before she moved out, planting her rice, harvesting it, and getting rid of the things she didn’t need. She also applied for an online store on Baobab and this process was going to take a week.Only her details were needed so she didn’t need to worry about anything or register an address. This online store was good especially for people with no physical registered places for a selling point. It wasn’t as complicated as when one was opening the company and the capital needed wasn’t much as well. So, while she waited, Juanita cleaned up her whole house and sold a few appliances she didn’t need. On the last day of the month, she handed the keys to the landlord and walked out of the apartment she had been living in for over a year with just a suitcase of clothes. “Where did she put her things?” the man asked curiously as he watched the tenant, h

CHAPTER 9: FAMILY

Juanita jogged happily to her parents seeing the love, warmth, and longing in her mother’s eyes. She had missed the woman so much and it felt good seeing her after not being home for a long time. “I am home, mother!” Juanita excitedly announced as her mother’s warm embrace enveloped her. “My baby is back, let momma look at you,” Pearle excitedly spoke as she looked at her daughter to see if she was in a good condition. Juanita giggled happily and let her mother look at her all she wanted, after a minute or so, Pearle finally stopped and took the suitcase from Juanita. “Mother, I can carry it. You don’t have to,” she tried to dissuade her mother but the old woman shook her head in rejection. “I am still strong, let mommy do this for you. Come along, your daddy should be on edge by now,” Pearle laughed as she looked

CHAPTER 10: FAMILY 2

Juanita looked at her dad’s worried face and sighed, she didn’t want anything bad happening to her parents or watching them getting depressed especially when she was the root of all the problems. “Dad, I will be here for like a week or two. I resigned from my previous workplace and will be going to Zlila for something better,” knowing her parents well, she doubted if she could hide from them any longer so it was better for her to come out clean from the word go. Randall wasn’t surprised much but Pearle who was done washing the plates, yelled in surprise, “darling, why did you resign?”Juan looked at her mother in a defeated manner, “it wasn’t working well there so I decided to leave and look for greener pastures somewhere else.” Pearle looked at her daughter and felt her heartache for her, “were they bullying you?” Juan ch
