Chapter 54: Rue’s Pov
RUE.
The whole ride home, she didn’t say much. She just leaned her head against the window, her fingers fidgeting with the strap of her bag like her thoughts were louder than the silence. I kept glancing at her from the corner of my eye. That red bruise on her neck was still staring back at me, and I hated it. Hated the fact that I wasn’t there to stop it before it happened. Hated that it happened at all.
When we got inside, I made her sit down on the couch and went straight for the drawer where we kept first aids and ointments . I found the ointment, i was searching for ,uncapped it, and walked back to her.
“Let me see,” I said softly.
She hesitated for a second, then pulled her braids to the side.
