Mum,” I murmured, stunned as I watched Eleanor, my other mother, rush into the hospital. Why was she here?
Immediately I turned to Gladys, pulling her away from the hallway. "Mum, I think you should go check on Alexa."
Her eyes surveyed the hallway as if waiting for someone. "You are right. I will see what that girl is up to." She gave my arm a reassuring squeeze before turning and heading in the opposite direction.
With a final, quick nod to her retreating back, I took off, trying to keep up with Eleanor. I found her pushing a door just ahead. Luckily she didn't fully close it. I put my head through the door, peeking inside, I saw my grandfather sitted up in bed, chatting happily with a young woman.
"Eleanor! Come, come," he called, his voice raspy but cheerful. "I want you to meet my newest granddaughter."
I froze in the doorway, his words echoing in my ears. The Wiltons had another daughter.
