He was finally awake.
My hand shook as I opened the door. It’s been years since the last time I saw my brother, and I almost lost him without even seeing him.
I put Lylia down as I opened the door. The room was filled with several uniformed men, reminding me of Dave. One of them saw me and Lylia, and that’s when they parted, revealing my brother, who was now seated on his bed, his eyes open, and was looking at me.
“Kelly?” His face broke into a smile as he opened his arms to me.
I rushed to him and wrapped my arms around him, afraid that if I let him go, he would just fade.
“Hey, Kelly,” my brother called, his voice a bit hoarse. “It’s nice seeing you again.”
I pulled away and looked at him, checking to see that this was all true. That he was really okay, and wide awake.

“Mommy,” Lylia’s small voice called. I turned around and found her with Mika.
