A single shot rang out, then, Adrianna's body fell back, her gun clattering to the ground as she collapsed. My eyes darted to Roland, his weapon still pointed on her fallen form, before he sprinted toward us.
"Alpha, stay with us." Roland dropped to his knees beside Jacob, pressing his hands over the wound. Blood seeped between his fingers, staining his sleeves bright with red. "The backup team's two minutes out. We'll get you to the hospital."
