As soon as the elevator chimed open, Leyi stepped out and walked away without looking back. I let out a slow breath I hadn’t realized I was holding, but I could still feel Edward’s hand wrapped tightly around mine. I looked up at him and smiled, hoping it would mask the unease that lingered inside me.
We made our way to the office, Edward speaking softly beside me, trying to reassure me that everything was fine. But I didn’t respond. I couldn’t.
Because I didn’t know what to think. Inside the office, I quietly moved to my desk, my heels clicking softly on the polished floor.
“Are you okay, my love?” Edward asked as I sat down.
I glanced up, offering another gentle smile. “Yes, honey,” I replied, picking up the blue file in front of me.
He smiled in return, but I could feel his eyes on me as he walked toward the floor-to-ceiling glass, standing with his arms folded and his eyes staring out into the distance.
“I don’t want you to be worried about anything,” he said, still f
