Lexie’s POV
Patrick feeling jealous of me meant quite a lot, but him saying he didn't want to lose me was what made my heart happiest. Dinner at his place followed the same rhythm as lunch, but with all his friends there, it was fun and pleasant. When Melissa and Fred said their goodbyes, I took the opportunity.
"Mel, can I go with you guys?" I asked Melissa quietly. I didn't want Patrick to have to leave home to drive me at that hour, but he heard me, squeezed my hand, and held me back.
"I'd say yes, but judging by your boyfriend's face, I think I'd better say no." Melissa laughed at Patrick.
"Oh, darling, you should sleep here. Tomorrow you two can stop by your apartment before work." Lucinda had also overheard and suggested I stay. I became increasingly unsure of what to do or say.
"Oh, Lucinda, but I don't have anything here, not even a toothbrush," I spoke playfully, but she looked at me seriously.
"That's not the problem." Lucinda stared at me.
